When I'm visiting another state the first thing I start looking for is the best food. I had heard so much about New York I could wait to get there and try it out. It wasn't bad, but it was highly disappointing. Chicago, Kansas City, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Memphis, Birmingham and New Orleans all put New York City to shame.
New York is just so big though, so much ground to cover. Due to high rents there's probably a whole lot of turnover in the restaurant industry too. If you live there you can probably have new and unique experiences all the time. When you go to those other cities their local food culture is a little bit more permanent. Makes it a better bet when you're just visiting for a short period of time.

Ate at that white castle two days ago and yes, the onions are still seeping out of my skin. Actually heard they are closing it soon, which is unfortunate. Since Nathans got moved also and hasn't been the same.

ECW presentation was great imo cuz it was no polished and sanitized like WWF and WCW especially at that time, it was more hip and different (in a good kinda way). Plus they wasn't on cable yet, at the time, so as I can I understood. Funny thing is WWF and WCW took ECWs "attitude" & ran with it and the rest is history
You can tell how Cornette has grown to respect Heyman and ECW, now that he’s seen how bad wrestling can really be. Back in the day he actually thought ECW was the worst thing that could happen to wrestling.
I'm 79. I eat White Castle all the time. No problems. You guys must be weak. Brian's right about the best deli and bagels being in NYC & NJ. There's also the NJ sloppy Joe, best damn sandwich ever.
Because I lived in Springfield MA at the time, I didn't get to see ECW's TV product until it came to TNN. They were on the air in the Boston area and in Connecticut, and we had no affiliate to air it and we couldn't see it on our local cable system. But what Jim says about the overall ECW product is pretty accurate. Some really good performers, some lousy, plus some extreme violence like the Taipei death match between the Rotten brothers, or the barbed wire match between Sabu & Terry Funk. Joey Styles was the only commentator who could have done ECW any justice.
I ate at Krystal's for the first time since I was a kid a few weeks ago. Worst experience ever. The burgers were blan and the fries were blan and undercooked. Most likely never going there again.
Totally Conscious is correct, but not for the reasons you might be thinking. Italian and Chinese food in the US is made for the American palette, often using local food available, and local recipies. Much of it does not resemble local food in Italy or China. For example, Pizza and General Tao's Chicken were created and perfected in the US. Pizza in Italy is pretty bland, and nothing like you'd get in NYC or Chicago.
9:17 I guess I never really noticed that b/c I enjoyed the matches & the characters & the music so much. 9:24 Yeah right, ECW is well loved & always will be
I used to think Joey was a bit overrated, but when I look back at all he did he was very underrated and I think easily in the top-5 announcers I have ever heard. He had the ability to call the match, not only the moves, but tell the story of the match and the background of the wrestlers and get their motivations and agendas over to the audience. He was a really good interviewer as he knew how to react to the wrestler being interviewed without overdoing it too much and taking away from the wrestler being interviewed. And he was excellent at sidebar commentary that really stuck with the audience and making compelling quotes. Not many announcers were able to do all of those things. Gordon Solie could, but I don't think Jim Ross was the greatest at sidebar commentary and not in the same level as Joey in that regard. JR was better at telling the story of a match, but it wasn't *that* much better than Joey. Lance Russell was a better interviewer and 'guided' the audience better, but I don't think he called matches better than Joey. He was just a wonderful talent.
@@Rjensen2 I disagree. He was very good on PPV. The editing on TV took him from being a good announcer to a great announcer. He was versatile as he was good at calling matches, conducting interviews and reacting to them, hyping up future matches and cards and providing insightful commentary that had classic memorable lines. I can't think of any other commentator as versatile as he was. Gordon Solie is my favorite, but even he wasn't great at conducting interviews and reacting to them. Jim Ross' special commentary was so-so. Lance Russell's match commentary was average. Consider that with all of the responsibilities Joey had behind the scenes and how many times Heyman would come up with last second ideas and Joey would have to ad lib when other announcers would be given plenty of time to prepare...that's why I think he's very underrated.
It was just the craziest shit we ever saw, at that time, in the northeast, and when wrestlers from other promotions came thru, they would get utilized differently, in a way we never saw the in business. TRUE ABOUT ECW WRESTLING FANS. THEY WERE OLD SCHOOL PHILLY FANS FROM SPECTRUM/CIVIC CENTER DAYS WWF TRI STATE WRESTLING DAYS.
Paul and Joey made them in Ron Buffone's mom's basement. He was a producer on ECW. ECW is remembered for hardcore but they had some of the best technical matches like Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero
What about Joey styles at ppv with guys like Jerry Lynn i always remember Jerry yelling "HE WAS REACHING FORRR THE ROOOPPESSS HE WAAAS REACHING FOR THEEE ROOOOPPES, HE WAS REACHING FOR, THE, ROOOOOPPPESSSSS"
You ALL have to listen to the ECW Pilot Episode (on the Network BUT not the one taped at the Arena) Joey Styles as a "HEEL" announcer. In he words of the late great Gorilla Monsoon "Unbelievable!" A MUST Hear Episode! I did a podcast on youtube about it.
Yeah to say that they have the best food of another country is just mindbending. I'm pretty sure that italy has better italian food but I wouldn't even be surprised if an american doesn't even know that such a country exists.
They have 3 people on the announce team for a reason. They have two people who can carry the broadcast and a third who's there to learn on the job. That third person will have experience being an announcer and can move to another show sometime to be one of the lead announcers.
Having been at the ECW Arena in the 90’s, I can attest to it being exciting,on a visceral level. Like the other independents, it thrived on a blend of great young talent and veterans hanging on at the fringes. That venue, the crowd, the feel of it was akin to grindhouse. But it was always going to be a short run, because guys were taking too many chances, and getting hurt, and Heyman had trouble paying the talent, let alone keeping them. It has a place in wrestling history, if you simply admit to the legends that walked through that door. For me, I got to not only see The Sheik, but Sherri Martel up close. What a babe 💜.
I miss joey styles on commentary. I can not honestly remember his wwe run much but the product has been pretty blah for years. The main thing I remember from his wwe is his joey styles quits wwe promo. I have no idea why vince allowed this because as I recall it went nowhere. I do not think he ever called another wwe match but worked in wwe digitial media for another 10 years.
The best ringside announcers hands down will always be Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler. Both had amazing commentary and reactions that made a connection with the crowd cause what they said was what we were feeling. The OH MY GOD! AS GOD AS MY WITNESS! HE IS BROKEN IN HALF! To the I SWEAR THERE IS NO MAN MORE EVIL THAT THAT GUY! Absolutely amazing!

Joey Styles will always be a legend and awesome human for knocking out JBL.
It takes a man with a lifetime of experience in storytelling to be able to convey an entire paragraph's worth of attitude and inflection by simply saying the word "Bagels."
Vince Russo was great
In his own mind
Bagels are just circumcised donuts
Ate at that white castle two days ago and yes, the onions are still seeping out of my skin.
Actually heard they are closing it soon, which is unfortunate. Since Nathans got moved also and hasn't been the same.
1:04 BAGELS. That's the disgust of a southern dude hearing somebody brag about food & one if the highlights is bagels.
That's because "southern dudes" don't know what a good bagel is

How do people not see what a wrestling genius this man is?
because he has said some somewhat sensitive stuff, even though most of it is jim cornette being jim cornette
Most do.
Anyone got the clip of ECW showing the bubba must die sign?
Jim must have forgot that he talked about the Joey Styles firing a couple of years back. His problem with is wasn't related to the firing, but to the aftermath of it all.
They’ve closed all the Krystal’s here in Nashville- January 28th 2020
There's also one in West Hempstead on Hempstead Tpke..
Not* not no
Jim Cornette, Vince, Eric all hours on planing , Paul making stuff up on the spot and it was still 10000x better than anything on wwf or wcw
Joey Styles was perfect for that original ECW show 👍 Wrote this comment before I heard this LOL.
Guys, Italy is prolific for food. Pizza, pasta, gnocchi, olives, wine, nude table tennis. Bloody lovely stuff!
Italy has the best food in the world
Because I lived in Springfield MA at the time, I didn't get to see ECW's TV product until it came to TNN.
My all time favorites are Jim Ross, Joey Styles and Tony Schiavoni.
Also cant forget Gordon Solie Gorilla Moonson and Jessie Ventura as color man
Are you seriously forgetting Bobby Heenan and mean gene?
@@jeste4187 cant forget them either
Jim needs his own food show where he seeks out undiscovered dive restaurants.
The best Italian and chinese in the world 😂 I bet China and Italy have something to say about that.
Corona-chan agrees. Come to Wuhan for fine Chinese dining.
Totally Conscious of course they don’t. Don’t be foolish

He was woefully exposed on PPV. The only reason he appeared good was editing and insider stuff the fans ate up.
I thought JC would love Joey Styles’ promo from Raw back in May 2006. He echoes every issue that Jim has with modern rasslin’
Styles on live PPV’s was excellent though. Great mix of storytelling, informative calls and he got fans damn excited
Joey Styles is an excellent commentator. Great with ECW
Brian "Chicken Parmesan better than anywhere in the world"
The whole of Italy "vaffanculo"
It was just the craziest shit we ever saw, at that time, in the northeast, and when wrestlers from other promotions came thru, they would get utilized differently, in a way we never saw the in business. TRUE ABOUT ECW WRESTLING FANS. THEY WERE OLD SCHOOL PHILLY FANS FROM SPECTRUM/CIVIC CENTER DAYS WWF TRI STATE WRESTLING DAYS.
Jim and brian, keep up the great work!!!👍
Paul and Joey made them in Ron Buffone's mom's basement. He was a producer on ECW. ECW is remembered for hardcore but they had some of the best technical matches like Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero
Brian to me has always sounded like Bubba to me 😂😂

ECW was hands down was the best and it still holds up
Old ECW is exponentially more watchable than any wrestling on tv today Joey styles was the last great wrestling announcer even though he's a POS human
Joey was actually a heel-sympathizing writer along the lines of Dan Shocket and Eddie Ellner.
0:28 The best Italian food you get in the world is found nowhere near the US, period.

Krystals was God awful. That restaurant did not last long when they built it in my hometown of Killeen, TX. Now it's a Shipleys Donuts.

Ah yes, White Castle. AKA good eating... What in the fuck
You definitely have to take a few tums after eating white castles but they're so good

"FUNK'S BURNING CACTUS!!! HE'S BURNING CACTUS WITH A FLAMING BRANDING IRON!!!! OH MY GOOOOOODDDDDD!!!! NO! OH MY GOOOOOOODDDD!"
