I met Roddy at a signing ( the tickets were $100.00). I told him how much I appreciated him for bringing laughter to a tough life and how much my son (who was 10) was a fan of his old wrestling and movies. He asked me where my son was and I told him I couldn’t afford to bring him, he put his back to everyone, asked his name, grabbed a “They Live” picture and signed it to him and whispered “don’t tell anyone about this and tell your son I’m sorry I missed meeting him”.
What a great guy. When you meet your heroes, you can be guaranteed to be disappointed but he certainly did not. Thank You Roddy, for everything.

Same. I met Roddy at a convention once and he was the single most gracious celebrity I've ever encountered in that kind of context. He seemed like, as my dad would say, "one of the good eggs."

A friend of mine who works in the business got to have a pretty intimate 10-15 minute conversation with Roddy backstage at some show. I won't tell the whole story here, but my friend starts to ask em' some questions about his career, and Hot Rod's response was something along the lines of "I've spent 30 goddamn years talking about myself, I wanna hear about you!" That always took me back. By said friends admission, at that point they were nobody, and here one of THE legends of professional wrestling was asking John about HIS career, asking him questions, going out of his way to squeeze every drop of knowledge he could into that conversation. They say never meet your heroes, but I'm happy to know that Rowdy Roddy Piper was the exception to the rule. We all lost a legend, a hero, an icon, but Bruce I'm sorry that you lost a friend.

I saw Steven Tyler on the NYC subway #1 train going uptown. August 2001, it was in the afternoon and Aerosmith was performing that night at MSG. I asked him what he was doing on the train and he said he was taking some pictures with a photographer. He then said "I wanna know what you're doing on the train man". He was super cool.

I met Sandahl Bergman a short time ago, and she was super Super Nice. She went on and on about what a great man Roddy was and how much she Respected him. On the other hand, she had nothing good to say about Schwarzenegger. It was truly an honor to spend time with and talk to her.

    Woke up today
    You're still so far away
If I could reach beyond stars
If I could heal old scars
Then for you I would reach out
    That's when my soul shouts
For no matter what I do
    I can not reach you
    Oh you're so far away
    In your memory I pray
Why did you have to take that final ride
I miss walking side by side
    Oh my heart breaks
    As my body shakes
You were never suppose to leave
Now I hang my head to grieve
My life with you was a blessing
I loved how you would sing
But now in heaven your voice ring
I love you more then you know
Now I must let you go

A good friend of mine (and someone who I'd had a relationship with, and had loved very much at one time) texted me that he was in the area, playing with his band. I hadn't really talked to him for some time, but by the time I saw his text, it was really late and I didn't feel like going out. I didn't answer him. I figured I'd just talk to him later. A couple days later, like Roddy, he passed away in his sleep from cardiac arrest. He'd been a severe diabetic since childhood, and was suffering kidney failure. He was on dialysis and was on a transplant list. I was devastated. If I'd only responded, I could have seen him, or at least talked to him, one last time.

NGL, I was a hogan fan when he and piper had their first feud in the 80s. I always respected RP and how good he was at his craft. As time went on, I realized just how good he was. He was larger than life. And his podcast really let you in to know the man. Seeing him on that Rich Eisen interview shortly before he passed was heartbreaking. Rod had a tough life, and you could tell it finally had taken its toll by the end. I cried when I first heard the news, because after listening to his podcast it took me out of how I viewed him as a kid and got to hear the man behind the character. He was a family man. RIP.

His death really got me, as a kid watching wrestling from what I consider the golden age. The WWF's first generation..Rowdy Roddy Piper should out... I enjoyed his matches very much..and in WcW against Hogan and the nWo I dare say he helped rocket that angle to next level. . . I would have loved to have met the man and shook his hand and thank him for being a part of my childhood like someone else in the comments mentioned. I was going to be part of one of his stops in Texas that Bruce mentioned and I was excited to meet him I really wish I would have had that opportunity. Rest in Peace Hot Rod

Roddy was a catalyst. Without Roddy, Hulk would not have been as big, because he sold more tickets to the 1st WM than T or Hogan. Ric Flair would not had been as hot without the Hot Rod in Mid-Atlantic. Even Ric readily admits as much. Roddy was an entertainer, a wrestler, a friend to many, and a wonderful family man. And Roddy, since you're departure, we miss you, thank you, & ALL OF US are ..."all out of Bubblegum"!!

I have a voicemail my mother left me on my birthday. (I returned the call n spoke with her though). 2 days later she was gone. Heart attack out of nowhere. I play her voicemail on my birthday now.. I know how he feels. Tragic losses out of nowhere will always hurt when you think about it. And the last voicemail will haunt you forever if you dont delete it. 🤷‍♂️
