Check out this ultra-rare, analog-digital watch: Casio's AQ-21. This is a variant of Casio's AQ line which are typically squared-off ana-digi watches that are cheap, thin, and have decent functionality. This one is unique with an open-faced, skeltonized, blue dial. It's certainly a vintage retro classic. This one is super rare and it's almost impossible to find out its history. Maybe you can help me out? If you're a fan of Casio's analog/digital combinations, this one might be a good look!
EDIT: The AQ-230 shown in the beginning of the video actually DOES have a stainless steel case, not a resin case as noted.

If you go a minute or two past the time when setting the analog hands, you can freeze the hands by hitting the reset before it hits 20 seconds. The hands move 3 times a minute and you can hold it on a given minute indefinitely. After waiting a minute for the hands to match the real world time it's easy to reset the digital time to match it. It's natural to change the digital and then try and match the analog but it actually makes more sense to change the analog first and then match the digital since the analog is the harder task.
That's a huge help!

Yes, the thing that maybe i didn't make clear after rereading the post is that you need to continually hit the reset before it hits 20. So lets say you are a minute past you get the seconds flashing and let them get to 15 then hit reset then let it count uo to 15 again and hit reset then again until the minute hand shows the correct time. As long as you hit the reset before it hits 20 the analog hands will not move. Probably over explaining, but once you minute hand is correct it will continue to move every time the seconds hit 20, 40 or 00. So while you are "holding the minute hand" you will find that your digital time is wrong now. So now just leave the seconds alone and get the minutes flashing and change them to the correct minute and your time is matched.

Module 308, also used in the AQ-6W. My Casio Module reference shows it as a Feb 1986 release, has +/- 15 sec of accuracy, uses a 399 battery that lasts for 3 years. I'm guessing AQ-21 is a 1986 - 1988 release.

I received my red variant this week, i try to contact casio for more information. This model share the same housing and modul with the AQ-6W & the AQ-8W. Good for parts ✌️
i talked with casio and with a retired marketing manager. casio said this watch came out 1989 and the marketing manager said, this watch was never for sale. it was a gift for the manager or the staff of local watch shops.

How waterproof/resistent is the aq230? Will it break if I submerge it for a few seconds, for example when washing my hands, showering or doing the dishes?
It should be fine for splashes but not a full submerge.

Are you sure AQ230 is resin? I have an old version AQ something and it was plated brass.

The newer vintage line I bought are resin with metal plating, much like the a168. I don't know since when tho, but my father's aq230 are metal and noticeably heavier.
