Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is Elton John's crowning achievement IMHO... Every song is a masterpiece. Both of you should react to the whole album. Great reaction guys!!
Thank you !! -Ethan
This is the Elton John era that is top drawer. Lost me when he got more pop later. Great creativity during this time period.
One of the greatest songs of the 1970s. These 11 minutes are the Elton John band proving that they can do Progressive Rock with the best of them, in 1973, arguably the best year for Progressive Music.
A classic among the classics! ALL of Elton John right thru the mid 70's is his best stuff. And he was pretty good after that also. ALL THE YOUNG GIRLS LOVE ELTON.
Yeah, the lyrics to that song ("All The Girls Love Alice") raised a few eyebrows in 1973... :-D
Many years ago I saw him at Madison Square Garden. He opened with this...lights....fog....swelling organ music....AWESOME
That sounds amazing! -Ethan
It’s interesting to note that “Love Lies Bleeding” is a type of flower as well, and you know how Brits feel about their flower gardens!
Elton Johns garden has a giant Godzilla or Dinosaur in it given to him by Ringo Starr
This song was so different for EJ when it was released - what a masterpiece.....I appreciate it much more now after hearing it hundreds of times over the years.....thank goodness he's still here for the younger generation to appreciate.
My son and I just saw Sir Elton a couple of weeks ago at his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour in Charlotte NC--a lifelong dream of mine to see him (I bought my first album in 1972). After a five minute break, mid-concert, he came back with this classic and brought the house down. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Another Masterpiece from one of the most successful collaborations in music history. Bernie Taupin writes all the lyrics and Elton John (Reginald Dwight) writes all the music…. In most every case they are never in the same room or place. Amazing results.
Saturday Nights Allright For Fighting.
Back in the day Elton was my favorite artist. This was my favorite song from his best album. I was in the US Navy in 1983 and some of my shipmates and I got to see him (with Quarterflash) at the Greek Theater at UC Berzerkley. He opened with this song.
Too bad it's too long and didn't get more radio airplay.
Recommended Elton John rock song, "Saturday night's alright for fighting" .
This is my favorite song by him.
It’s become mine too! -Ethan
Great song Lary&Ethan love that try sweet blockbuster I think you two will love it 👍😀
I went through 2 GYBR albums. 😯
Killer song(s)!! 🔥🔥🔥
An entire double album without a single dud! EVERY song is fantastic. Thank God for Bernie and Elton.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing with him and us. ❤
Great transitioning from the first part into Love Lies Bleeding. I have loved it since the first chord played back in 1973
Hello there! I love the way the song begins. The instrumental is so intense and beautiful. You hear his piano skills wonderfully! Elton is a genius! He just rocked out here in Chicago! Maybe next do Pinball Wizard! Enjoy!

His prostate is awful, screaming pain now for 19 days .. like labor pains. Instead of addressing the issue, they're keeping him drugged. I wanted to have him transferred to VA to cut mid approvals out & see what his options were. Then last Thursday I fell & broke my tailbone & injured my neck at the hospital. Haven't been able to be there with him. Can't get other fam to go see him. In 24 hrs yesterday doc said he's very sick & needs to go to hospice. He said he doesn't think Daddy will pull thru this episode. I just don't understand what happened in 24 hrs. Hopefully I can get someone to go there today. They need to check what they're giving him. Elton john is the best

Father: "Wait for it."
This is Elton's major MASTERPIECE! Another amazing composition , Burn Down the Mission!
This song got old for me back in September 23rd 1982. So the 40 year anniversary of it getting old is coming up soon. Love your channel guys. 👍
This is a good song. A bit different from Elton's big well known hits but very refreshing.❤💯👍
If you were a fan from the beginning then you would agree this is one of Elton’s best work.
Elton had a top 10 album twice a year for half the decade, (not exactly, but nearly).
Epic! This young man is getting a PHD!
Great choice, guys. Elton (and Bernie) made a succession of great albums in the 70's. Madman Across the Water and Captain Fantastic are also masterpieces imo. x
Seen him once was great!! Awesome reaction!!
I have listened to this song atleast once a day since it was released back in 1973. It is number one on my playlist and will never be moved from that spot....so happy you enjoyed this song, Ethan... stay safe & stay strong you two 💙
Glad we were able to react to a song that means so much to you Kathy! Hope you’re doing well! 💛 -Ethan
Wow every day for that long ? Wow. Glad we Ethan picked it then ! Hope all is good with you Kathy -Larry
Amaranthus caudatus is a species of annual flowering plant. It goes by common names such as love-lies-bleeding, tassel flower, velvet flower, foxtail amaranth, and quilete. Many parts of the plant, including the leaves and seeds, are edible, and are frequently used as a source of food in India as well as in South America.
Never heard this one before. At first I thought I was hearing Boston at first, then Pink Floyd. My favorite Elton John song is Crocodile Rock.
Yes it is different than those I really like. Crocodile Rock is great. I also like Saturday's All Right For Fighting.
@@cherylreichardt That is a great rocker too.
Hello, Doug! My favorite one is "Rocket Man".
@@MisterMikeTexas Hi Mike, Rocket man is cool. Glad to see you here.
@@MisterMikeTexas Hi Michael!
One of my all time favorite songs. Simply a masterpiece. This song makes me turn me into a crazed conductor. 😅Rocket Man is not 80s btw.
I think Ethan was thinking I'm Still Standing, which was around '86 if I recall. Rocket Man must have been more than 10 years earlier.
Perhaps he was thinking it was 80's because of the commercial it was in talking about how your inferior equipment caused you to mishear lyrics.
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ROCK SONG AND HAS BEEN FOR 45 YEARS NOW YOU GUYS! 😊 😊😊 FROM HIS EPIC MASTERPIECE 73 ALBUM ( GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD ), 50 YEARS AGO NEXT YEAR! 😊
Not the biggest Elton John fan, but these might be my favorites from him, and saw him with Billy Joel in 94, an excellent show!
Now Billy Joel is someone I can stand to hear on the channel. I would nominate We Didn't Start The Fire for a reaction and see how many historical events and namechecks Ethan can tick off as having heard of.
Just FYI, Ethan -- "Rocket Man" was from 1972. :-) Elton's style was fairly diverse during the 70s, from sentimental ballads to light pop to hard rock-n-roll, and even dipped his toe into what could arguably be considered "prog rock" and surrealism a couple of times. It wasn't until the 80s that he became more pop-oriented. If you listen to the whole "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album, you'll hear him (and songwriter Bernie Taupin) go through pretty much his full range of styles in one album. :-)
I agree with you Ethan, was never a Springsteen fan... I would not turn off one of his songs if it came on the radio, but I never looked for his songs to play one....
GREATEST SONG BY ELTON !!!!! I AGREE WITH YOU ETHAN LOL IM 59 AND I ONLY LIKE A FEW OF SPRINGSTEENS SONGS

@@MisterMikeTexas Thanks Michael! Dave talked about it being a great place. I'm glad you came.
This was a heavy synthesizer song when synths were new and complex machines. I heard that the programming for this song was labor intensive. I've never been to his concerts, but from what I've seen, Elton seems to love his audience. He shouted out to Eddy Money's and Ric Ocasek's families after those two rock icons unfortunately left us.
Nice info Michael, I can believe at the time it wasn't easy. And you had to be Elton John to even do it.
Probably because at the time, you didn't really "program" those analog synths, so much as "dial them in." :-) Getting a particular sound was a matter of adjusting dozens of knobs and switches to tweak the behavior of the oscillator and filter circuits until you got a sound you liked -- and then writing down or labeling the position of all of those control knobs so that you could *hopefully* get that same sound back again later when you wanted it. But, due to the analog nature of the circuits, the behavior of the circuit could "drift" due as the components warmed up, so even when you dialed the same settings back in, you still might have to tweak them a bit more to get back to the sound you wanted, depending on how long the synthesizer had been sitting there warming up. They were *very* finicky beasts back then!
Hey Michael!
You guy’s might like Elton John’s tribute to John Lennon- “ Empty Garden”- mellow tune, but a great tribute Elton wrote for his friend…..
I know the song well. I highly doubt Ethan knows it. I agree it would be a good one to do. No ideas it was a Lennon tribute. Thanks for mentioning that -Larry
You should try reacting to Take and to The Pilot, from Elton’s fiery American album. You would also love Where to Now St. Peter.
Do you enjoy suffering and torture? Try learning to play this song on the piano! 🤣
The kid's right c'mon 4 minutes of 4 notes? Born to turn that off😂 Anyway, please don't forget the vocals in this one.
Just like knowing what the next track is on a frequently heard album I can mostly always say "poll Thursday in harmony with Larry. It's a highlight of any winners video, never leave it out, sorry Ethan.

Hi Mike! A great dynamic, father and son who are good bros. Busting each others chops. It's pretty fun.
If you like Elton rock, do Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.
Bernie Taupin is the guitarist…Elton was strictly the piano
I agree with you Ethan. Well, except for Janis. I've grown accustomed to her voice and I like the grittiness of it, but I've been listening to her for years. I may not have liked it when I first heard it, but she rocks. But I do agree that I like the 70s rock better than the 80s, and I have never been a fan of Springsteen. He has a few decent songs, but he isn't one of my favorites. His song Born In The USA just annoys me to no end. But Elton John has a lot of great songs. Most of his 70s output can't be touched. Great stuff. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and Elton came up with the melodies. He was more pop in the 80s, but I love his 70s stuff. Rocket Man was from the 70s too. It is more pop but in a good way. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a great album.
One of Elton John's better songs and he and the band were really good at this point in his career.
The guitarist is Davey Johnstone who is highly regarded by many people and has played for other greats such as BB King, Alice Cooper and Stevie Nicks at various times in his career over the years.
Really enjoy you guys! To Larr the way Eathan looks at you with such admiration is the way I looked at my dad and still do , he started me on guitar and singing at the age of 2 singing and 5 playing guitar mom taught me piano but I dug guitar . Went on to be a professional musician singer songwriter session work for all genres. Nothing more than love and music you can give your child! Ethan have you ever thought of picking up a an instrument? You have a mind and great rhythm! Just asking! I have taught a few kids in my day and you honing your craft stay in school! You have an amazing support system with your folks! Take a listen to some R and B Blues one of my favorite guitar players was Stevie Ray Vaughan taken to soon! And yes! We’ve done quite a bit of Stevie Ray Vaughan on the channel already. We’ve done “Pride and Joy”, “Texas Flood” and we’ve also done “VooDoo Child” but we are going to do more in the future. Which one should we do next? -Ethan
Life Without You Stevie wrote this for a friend who built the white guitar who passed away! It’s live to appreciate Stevie you have to see him live. Another one is Little Sister Austin City Limits ACLfor short his string breaks and and he plays write through it! Only Stevie could do that. He had been sober and loving life on this clip! Riveria Paradise instrumental same show ACL he wrote this and in the studio used I believe it was 13 amps to get the sound he wanted! There are so many! Guitar players loved Stevie! His older brother Jimmie started him at 7 years old and he flourished! Jimmie has accomplished a lot. Stvevie took it to another level. A known fact that a lot people is Stevie could play drums. I’m glad you are learning music and not just tabs but in the end it’s your ear you will use more than anything! You play along with songs and figure out what key they are in and if you are learning some music theory it will help you know where to go by hear. Stevie was taken to soon! He had so many exiting things to come. Sober and loving life. I met him such a good man as well. Eric Clapton once said God threw the mold away once ge created Stevie! People try to do his music which isn’t hard it’s just fast! Jimi Hendrix was his idol and Stevie took it to another level! I don’t know what you would like to do with your life I really think you have the talent! Billy Strings this cat is awesome! He flat picks. He’s young and already won a Grammy. He is what they describe as Panterra Blue Grass! Away from the Mire live anywhere is awesome! He can play anything and writes beautiful bad hind end songs! Different sound he is bad mmmm on the guitar something different! I would recommend Austin City Limits for it great jams! Thanks for taking the time! Keep on the classic rock! Music now a days is stuck. Always play not into those backing tracks! Love your channel! I’m thinking you are an only child so am I wouldn’t trade my parents for the world! Take care! Stay strong I’m sure you will Ethan. 😊🎸☀️🌵🇺🇸🙏Larr you have an amazing son taking time to see where he goes in life is so awesome! Love your influences on him and how you let him express himself he’s right on with his analysis he’s got what it takes. My first time cutting my own record I was 14 went to #1 in Canada. If he goes this direction music business may I suggest learning a crash course on music law. It isn’t for the faint at heart! Thanks for listening! Enjoy the channel!!!! 😊

Hey guys, great choice to react to. May be my favorite Elton John song. You certainly should react to more from Elton, including "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" which Angelina Jordan did a great version on America's Got Talent. A little off topic, but you have to listen to 80's Van Halen, and remember that AC/DC's "Back in Black" is fr 80.' If you want a killer Van Halen tune from the 80's, try "Mean Street," from the Fair Warning album of 1981. p.s. I have always loved Elton's Funeral....., try Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting by Elton...yes it was released in 73'. lol Real father and son tit for tat! Love it!

Request another Elton John song "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" featuring the duet of Kiki Dee.
My real name...Bernie Taupin.
It's funny because I'm not an Elton John fan, but about the only one I really do like is I'm Still Standing, so it's funny you mentioned that one. I've never actually heard this before, because it's the first two tracks or linked pieces from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, and I'm familiar with the title track because that was a single. This never was, so it's a deep cut as far as I'm concerned, but I actually really liked it instrumentally, great arrangement - just not so keen on Elton's voice.
My favourite story about Elton John (real name Reginald Dwight) is not even an Elton John story, but a Move story. There was a period when The Move had a manager with some very unorthodox ideas for promoting the band and got them involved with some sort of weird art film project with a very sketchy director by the name of John Elton. The band were not impressed, particularly as this guy seemed to have no music industry knowledge whatsoever. He couldn't even understand why they nicknamed him "Dwight Reg"!
When I was a kid, I used my mom's large sunglasses and glued on sequins so I could be like Elton. Let's just say a boy in school was a huge fan. Loved The Move info!
