    Question of the day: Have you tried pocket holes in a woodworking project? What do you plan to build or repair with them?

    Thanks for the video mark, I learned a lot and it makes it easier to understand the manual. I bought the k4 for $79 at Lowe's last November and I haven't opened it yet. Now I'm going to. I'm building a 10ft long computer table in one of my room and make it into my office.
    Good video 👍👍

    thanks for making a few mistakes, admitting to them and making corrections. I am an ameteur woodworker and make mistakes constantly, but let's face it, most ot the time only we will know the mistakes are there. 😀

    Good stuff. Thanks for the video - I need to purchase a pocket hole jig. The video not only explained the Kreg K4 system, but you provide some valuable tips for making the joints.

      Thanks Richard glad to hear this was helpful. Kreg introduced a newer version that looks like a good option. It's a little more expensive, but works well.

    I bought my K4 kit with an included assortment of pocket screws in a Kreg organizer 2 years ago for $112 or $114 via Amazon, I must say it's an awesome kit in my opinion, eventually I'll build a dedicated mobile platform for it.

    Used this system to trim out my exterior windows with PVC trim, as well as build my deck for my whirlpool bath it works well just use the moisture resistant pocket screws for locations which my see any moisture

      Oh wow, I didn't think about using this with PVC trim. I have the perfect project for it on some busted J-channel siding under my front door. Thanks for inspiring the idea! 🙌

    In my opinion, that Milwaukee M18 drill is a little too powerful to run those screws in with. It's not so bad in hardwoods, but it's way too strong in softwoods and it's hard not to strip out the wood, even on the lowest clutch setting. It can be done, but you really have to feather the trigger and it's a PITA to deal with. Maybe the M12 drill would be a better option or maybe the M12 installation drill/driver would work better for running the screws in.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 роки тому

      Yeah, that's a good point. The M12 is a good match for that. I also have a Dewalt Atomic drill that would work good in that situation.

    My local Lowe’s has it on clearance for $46.15. I picked the second one up tonight! 😂 The clamp, bit and driver is worth that price. The two I bought had a bonus pack of 675 screws and a Kreg jig mini included. Screws alone are $35.00.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 роки тому

      Dang, that's a great deal! Maybe they're making room for the new Kreg model?

    • @exploringplaceshistoryantiques
      @exploringplaceshistoryantiques 3 роки тому

      They are making room for the new 520 and 720. I actually bought two kits. The clamps and screws were worth the 46.15. I can also now set up two drill bit collars and not have to change them.

    Thanks for the refresher on the jig! I do own the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig. I’ve used it for framing an outdoor gate and a frame for a cover on an outdoor sand box. It’s amazing the strength of the hold, both are moving parts and really are strong.
    I have a question, does the system come with the vacuum attachment?
    I don’t seem to have one or I’ve misplaced it?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 роки тому

      No, that's not included in this kit. I ended up ordering it separately online.

    I’ve had a K4 for several years. Not a ton of use but I’ve noticed the holes drilled have frayed edges.
    Any ideas as to remedies?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  2 роки тому

      I get some of the frayed edges at times. I try to use my fastest speed drill and go back and forth a few times to help get them looking their best. Some wood species are better than others for drilling pocket holes.

    Hi Mark. I have been trying to locate a Kreg K4 jig to buy but so far no luck. I have tried Home Depot, Lowes, Acme Tools, Amazon, Ace Tools and even Kreg itself and no luck.i know it is discontinued but someone out there must hava a few. If you know of any one please let me know. I would like to buy one. Thanks Doug 9:28

    Thanks for the video Mark. I’ve been using my K4 for the past couple months. It’s amazing and there is no going back now. I want to use it on everything! However, I’m having trouble attaching pocket holes in 5/8th cedar pickets to 2x4. I’m not sure what to set the bit collar too or what size screw. Any advice?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 роки тому

      I'm wondering if you could use 1.25" screws to hold the 5/8 cedar? I'd try using wood glue to the 2 pieces and then screw it down. Kreg offers a variety pack of screws that would be a good investment if you're using the K4 regularly.

    I have been informed that the K4 and 5 are not being imanufactured anymore...can anyone verify that, please. I have borrowed the 4, a 5, and was lent a 720. The 720 was Ok but I liked the 4 and 5 better. I have the R3 for smaller jobs around the house.
