The meta was known as druid stone, the game plan was ramp up then play ultimate infestation, the game has never seen a card like that, it was estimated to be 20 mana worth of effects at the time After UI was played you can really do anything, OTK, go big deck, jade, Arianna, cthun anything really
Blood Knight was used sometimes in zoo or aggresive decks because there were a couple low cost minions with divine shield in the meta ( the 1/1 and the 3/1 ) but that was only during early Hearthstone
Emergency meeting gotta be the most flavourful card i've ever seen tbh. BTW the simple idea of making cards JUST to counter druid specifically is wild to me
My favourite card in the set is Exarch Othaar. I find it hilarious every time Blizzard shoe-horns arcane spells into a class that basically never had them before.
The first time I hit Legend was in Rastakhan's Rumble playing Captain Hooktusk Tempo Rogue. I remember playing Zihi in that deck because the power level of the game was so low that just potentially disrupting the opponent's curve at all was usually good enough to warrant it being played. Something that you didn't mention about Zihi that I actually really liked about it was that if the game was going longer than you wanted it to, Zihi could essentially reset the curve back for both players away from high mana. And since I was playing a tempo/aggressive deck, a lot of the time I benefited more from being on the low curve. It wasn't anything too great, but I remember the card fondly
Lowkey loved waste warden back in Ashesh of Outland. It was a tech card I had fun with for Murlocs and demons during that time and it was still very bad but fun when it killed 2+ minions
I seem to remember an old MtG design article where they talked about why they made counter cards. One reason is that when a player gets bodied by something, they have something they can go to to make themselves feel better, regardless if its good or not. Like, "I'm tired of losing to X location, i'm going to put Demolition Renovator in my deck". Another reason is that it can help prevent a new mechanic from being too oppresive and taking over the meta by having a safety valve. If the new mechanic is too good then the counter card helps lower its power, if it isn't dominant then why would you waste deck space on a narrow counter. One interesting element is that if everyone is playing the meta card and it's counter, non-meta decks get a teeny boost because their opponents have an overcosted tech card in their decks. There's an argument for having the tech card not come in the same set, but that comes with it's own downsides (like making it feel like the old mechanic has been killed to make way for the new one. Or being too little, too late to stop a meta powerhouse).
I think MTG also favors the concept of tech cards more. A sideboard which players can swap cards with between matches makes tech cards much more playable. Likewise, a larger deck size combined with cards that can search for the tech card specifically can enable playing tech cards which you might not need all the time. Traditionally, tech cards are weak in Hearthstone, unless the meta is very skewed, and I think the lack of those factors MTG has are part of the issue.
Oh damn, Flare's getting the pockets empty! Appreciate your efforts. Probably I'd have to name the Rogue spell that discovers a Starship Piece from another class. There are some really funny combinations you can stitch together.
My favorite card so far this set is The Ceaseless Expanse. I was maining Holy Wrath Paladin before the Order in the Court nerf and as soon as I saw that beautiful triple-digit number I got a massive smile on my face. For years I've wanted a neutral or Paladin 30 cost card to make Renathal fights a little fairer. To get this is phenomenal. Also, you can't forget Skulking Geist! I run that card in every wild deck I make.
My favorite card so far is Spore Empress Moldara. Start of game effects (other than Cho'gall) tend to be pretty enjoyable. I remember Blood Knight used to see play in early Hearthstone due to the 1 mana 1/1 and 3 mana 3/1 with divine shield being played back then, remember a few tournament highlights seeing pretty big Blood Knight's.
Love your videos man. I must say, my favourite tech card that I used to play in almost every controll deck in wild has to be the Skulking Gheist. 6 mana fuck jade Druid and manacheat mage was such a serotonin rush when played
Blood knight saw play in odd paladin because not only would it kill the opponents divine shield, you also had so many divine shield minions yourself it was often worth it to remove it from your 1 drops.
The real problem with counter cards is that you are trading too much tempo for a tempo disruption. Thats why Golakka Crawler was so good cause even if the enemys doesn't play pirates its just a 2 mana 2/3 which is really decent for tempo at that era of heartstone. This specific counter cards are shit in tempo in the modern era thats why even the spell disruption most of the time its a burden in your deck rather than a tool, thats why i think Star Vulpera it will be shit (5 mana for a 4/5 which has no rush at least is dogshit in modern heartstone).
You forgot the most iconic one, Hemit, ah yes, legendary tech card, with bad stats to hit beasts. For the new set I just like the starship mechanic altogether, it seems like fun.
I want Mojomaster in the core set next year, I think it would be incredible to reduce a druids mana by 11 Also, my favorite card of this expansion so far is Lucky Comet, incredible artwork
I think counter cards could be better if they meet these requirements: Premium Stats Better Reward (ex. Destroy a pirate and equip a 2/2 weapon) Has a bonus effect (like a taunt or rush)
Tbf with the Reno Lone Ranger hard counter is that you do have to have a highlander deck. Which is good but your never playing like Highlander deathknight or warlock
I remember all the mech decks from boomsday were absolute trash on release. They only became good after a couple of buffs and nerfs. Also, you forgot about Skulking Geist, it was introduced to destroy Jade Idols in Frozen Throne.
It's crazy how they have a chance to balance adjust expansions with new cards in the middle of it (mini-sets) and they don't put the counter cards in there. Also my fav card this expansion is Perplexing Anomaly, flavor cards are always my favorite
Zihi was real good in it's expansion period because there were a significant amount of combo decks, which zihi works well against. After rastakhan the card fell off hard
I love 5 mana 3/3 destroy my own minion The demolition renovator is so dumb because most locations you get a lot of the value from on the turn you play them
Velen is my favorite card of this expansion but i gonna predict the shaman set it's evolve shaman or murloc shaman (excuse me for my English I'm french )
Man, a topic about Druid specific counter cards and my favorite one is not brought up. Poor Skulking Geist, I hope knowing jades suck make your hungry heart happy.
My favorite card is still the new velen. Hoping it enables an infinite Draenei/velen deck with amalgams. Though im not looking forward to seeing things get poofed, thanks for great card design blizzard 😶
He says that aggro decks are to fast now for spreading plague. Well, murloc shaman can kill the opponent as fast they can counter it: in turn 4. And murloc shaman isnt even in the meta. Imagine a deck that can defeat a Renathal opponent in turn 4 not being in the meta.
Just a minor note, I love the vids a lot but if ur gonna say 10 min in that this is what you wanted to make the video about…JUST MAKE THE VIDEO ABOUT THAT I get that you need watch time but if you don’t want to talk about stuff as much maybe, love the vids regardless!
I don't like talking about One or two cards, it's not really very interesting for anyone and it doesn't really let me see what other people think about the type of cards I'm talking about. I didn't talk about skulking geist in this video specifically because I knew a lot of people would connect the dots on it being similar to drive more engagement since I want to foster more of a community on UA-cam rather than just blankly talking and not having peoples opinions or experiences
@@FlareIsGone yea I appreciate your channel a lot man! Idk ig that line caught me off guard lol, I realize you could’ve gone into ultra niche stuff too like the galaka killing pirate, other crabs, secret hate, etc so I’m happy w a 16 min vid still
Henlo i am here 4 gib away. Best card expansion? got to be the amongus cards. demon hunter is the worst but I would play it just for amogungsus demon hunter. I just wish they would actually give it more support after the expansion is over instead of abandoning it like they do with all the best mechanics. Like when is magnetic beast hunter coming back too. I hate hunter but that was a great idea and then just gone. I want robo mookla. Anyways yes flare robot man please give me all the give away money and also make me rich emperor of hearstone cards ty
I love how those cards almost always came out too late, and now they just shove cards that counter stuff in the expansion itself and it just feels bad
mossy horror shrimply was the goat of witchwood
One fun thing about Golakka Crawler, is that it was even played IN pirates decks to counter other pirates decks
Not even for that, a turn 1 with a 1 mana pirate + patches into turn 2 Golakka Crawler to your own patches was amazing tempo for the time
star vulpera should be in the miniset if starship are too strong, not in the base set
>it came out in the era where druid wasn't balanced at all
That doesn't narrow it down at all
this is very true
@@FlareIsGoneisn't druid in standard rather tame?
@@andriy_tatothey just came off the high of being the best class (as usual) last patch.
@@andriy_tatoit varies, but if you play it greedy enough it is the best late game deck

Blood night vs giggling inventor was so strong even the giggling inventor decks would run it to get their own 3 mana 9/9
Another good example would be jade idol and skulking Geist. Just completely shuts down jade Druid (good)
I can't believe my goat Hungry Crab didn't make the presentation 😔
Also my favorite card from the new set is Velen, finally he made a comeback
thats crazy he just showed himself naked like that
WHAT
Where? 👀
I like my cheese drippy bruh
ikr ? UA-cam allowing these things with children around

I didn’t realize until now that star vulpera doesn’t even destroy starships that are currently being built.

Excited for the new rogue card Quasar! Love your presentations, Flare!
"No druid, you didn't ramp, get fucked." When will they put in a "get fucked" emote. I would reinstall HS just for that!
Mojomaster Zihi and Mossy Horror would be so cool at 4 mana...
The problem with setting Mossy Horror to 4 mana is that it power creeps the very iconic card Oasis Snapjaw (I’m half joking)
Can you do a PowerPoint on the recent card changes and their effects on the game?

Insanely hyped for the new Hunter legendary that gives tracking as a hero power. I simply can’t contain the hype

For the new set I just like the starship mechanic altogether, it seems like fun.
5:45 I did craft nerubian weblord golden, it helped me in so many games as Reno Priest during Showdown
You didn’t mention skulking Geist. If I got the name wrong, the one that destroys all 1 mana spells.
Hungry crab into Mutanus 😘🤌
I want Mojomaster in the core set next year, I think it would be incredible to reduce a druids mana by 11

Golakka Crawler is just Hungry Crab cousin

Big fan of new Hunter legendary that turns hp into tracking. Definitely slotting into my reno hunter deck

I'm running into way too many Golakka Crawlers lately, I should probably start running Mossy Horror.
Zihi was real good in it's expansion period because there were a significant amount of combo decks, which zihi works well against. After rastakhan the card fell off hard
The new shaman cards seem fun. Murmur is going to be a menace
at the time zihi was considered one of the best legendaries (of rastakhan rumble lol) in standard if im not wrong, kinda insane to think about it
Abduction Ray for Warlock
Some of the DK cards seem interesting to me, especially the art
who need star vulpera when you have priest amalhul and YOG in the game
I like death knights 8 mana destroy both players decks except for the highest 8 cards. Seems fire for more controlly meta
Favorite card might be the hunter legendary Exarch Naielle, i might make hunter playable again.
I fucking love the quasar card it looks like very fun combo maker
The term for these in MTG is "Hate Cards"
I love 5 mana 3/3 destroy my own minion
The demolition renovator is so dumb because most locations you get a lot of the value from on the turn you play them
Can you please do a PowerPoint about Yogg-Saron, Hope's End?
I really like hunter cards this expansion.
i like the among us card in demon hunter!
Skulking Geist was made to attack Jade idol, or I am tripping?
yeah I just didn't talk about it since mossy horror is my goat
Velen is my favorite card of this expansion but i gonna predict the shaman set it's evolve shaman or murloc shaman (excuse me for my English I'm french )
All the carda are leaked there is no poijt in predicting. Not spoiling, but the main shaman mechanic is something new.
crewmates DH seems fun to play
also hunter back to relevancy next season yay
Cool vid!
YOU FORGOT SKULKING GEIST!!!!
Wait, wait, wait… we nerfed Yogg in preparation for Starships, but then just release Star Vulpera?
In fairness, yogg is a much better card than vulpera is.
I like the new dreneais
Man, a topic about Druid specific counter cards and my favorite one is not brought up. Poor Skulking Geist, I hope knowing jades suck make your hungry heart happy.
yeah geist is also there I just wanted to not make a billion slides about druid xd

Mossy horror also obliterated odd/even paladin decks which took meta by storm
And yeah giggling inventor too

How about that card that destroys secrets?
I did a separate video on tech cards that have more broad usage
They need a "Destroy all pirates on the board, hand, deck, and the whole game." card.
How do I become a member on phone
You do know BGH exists right? And don’t tell me it counters starship piece cause you aren’t using 5 mana to destroy a starship piece.
