You know you love a channel when watching fence posts holes being dug is seriously entertaining.
What we have here is a man and a woman in a garden.Didn't I read something about that one time?Lovely things never change. How it was in the beginning is how it is now.I like the birds and the bees and the promise of tommorro .God bless these two!!All this was His idea anyway.
Y'all are rock stars what great progress.
I'm retired and learn something from every video
I am sure you feel proud of the work you have done and you certainly deserve it...congratulations!
we live in bear country, so i bought a 2.5 joule solar fencer to protect our bees and orchard. Holy cow man, i forgot one day and walked thru my fence. I swear i could smell flesh burning. Yikes. Great video you guys
Your channel is amazing. Your both such a hardworking team. I'm watching your videos from the start of your adventure. I'm loving them. Congratulations!!
you guys are a whole tv show. why am I binge watching you? coz you are awesome thats why. lots of love
You two are amazing! I already watched 4 of your videos today while taking a rest..my day off :). Watching from Ontario Canada. Love you guys!!!!
You two have quickly become my favorite UA-cam couple. And thanks for letting us be…Part of your world…. Please tell me there was some kind of Little Mermaid reference that brought you two together
Couldn't find the isolators at any Home Depot etc then found out you said it wrong, those yellow things are called electric fence insulators not isolators, lol. Thanks for the video :)
That explains why your garden was so productive. It was all your prep work. Great job.
Looks like Beau was getting "hammered."
I really enjoy watching you two. You both work so hard, don't argue and are sensible and mature young people. You will have a beautiful property when you are done and are learning so much as you go. Wonderful!.
And great music! Sure fits the mood you get your work done.
Wow for some reason your Old videos came up & I am enjoying them so much - you guys worked so hard to create this Homestead that you currently have in 2022. Well done Guys & I will be watching all your videos for MANY YEARS TO COME. Cheers Denise- Australia
Assuming you've got bears, you probably need to put your hive inside the electric fence or make a bear proof yard for them.If the rabbits squeeze through your welded wire fence and the young ones will, add some chicken wire fencing along the bottom. You might want to place your compost pile inside your electric fence as it will attract vermin and predators to the chicken coop.Good Luck!
Cats make good bunny hunters as well. If bunnies do get in the fenced in area, just bring the cats in with you. They'll make short work of the wascally wabbits. Vaughn
I'm just always impressed by the SKILLS..for two folks from the Bay area of Ca. You research, you work hard and you are such great teachers.
super impressed! The property is looking great, you are putting a lot of people to shame with the amount of stuff you are getting done.
Garden bark-a-lounger FTW!!!!
I’m a med student. This channel inspires me to get into gardening as a way to balance my psyche.
Jared Cagas Thank you we are very glad you enjoy them!
Dr Tom Cowan was a gardener before he became a doctor. He revolutionized medical thought.
Horse237 the guy who tried to claim viruses are waste products? He should be ashamed of himself
@@ButterflyBox89 I had to check this guy out after seeing your comment. Wow. What a crackpot. No wonder the alternative universe has grown so much over the past decade. SMH.
oh yeah another old video I just found cool beans! and to think where ya'll are today 🙂
LOL, loved the end. I always feel like I got a lot done after watching y’all, even if I sat in my easy chair and binge watched your videos trying to catch up to current time.
People pray for your work ethic. Love the way yoi have 12 more yds of top soil to move . . with the impression that you'll move it in the PM when you have your day jobs done. The progress on the garden and greenhouse in one year is amazing.
Hate to tell you this, but Rabbits will go right thru that weld wire fencing. Been there and done that.
the artistic touches to your videos are really nice. they're 'organic'. imagine that. thanks for keeping it real
Your videos are getting better and better. Composition is fantastic. Keep learning! Thanks for the joy...
u guys sure r hard workers, and i say more power to ya.
After watching Ariel in the garden at the end of the video, we now know where Bandit gets his zoomies from! 😁
Your animals I absolutely love it
Enjoyed watching this one.
That wheel barrow looks super comfy. You deserve a rest after all that work.
You have an amazing work ethic!
As Usual the photography is way above Par.
Your videos are amazing and I love them. Thank you for sharing your life adventure with us!
Battery tip: If solar charging, the panels are more efficient when cold and the battery takes/gives charge better when its warm. so put your battery and charge controller inside your garden shed or enclosure and run the solar panel leads indoors. You'll get a higher voltage and have higher capacity at the wire in winter.
Very impressed, lovely well edited videos-very watchable. Also good to see a young couple work for themselves-no corporate bosses here!
The diagonal brace on your gate is backwards. The dead weight is supposed to transfer down and to the post where your hinges are located.
Jason Rahenkamp, thank you! It works perfectly fine so we never would have thought about it :)
It would be nice to see a before and after comparison! You folks have moved along Very quickly! excellent! :-)
A time compilation with drone shots would show the progress just great. Vaughn
Hey you guys, I'm Dave from North Pole , East of Fairbanks, and soon to be in Bettles/Evansville, 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle. I Have been watching from the start but am still a little hazy on how a young couple can afford to move to Alaska and do all you have. I will not fault you on your work ethic--you both are solid workers and have accomplished an amazing amount. Your work on the chicken coop and the garden was over the top in planning and backbreaking effort. It reminds me of what I could do forty years ago. I congratulate you on your efforts. I will pray for your safety and health as you continue this summer. May God bless you both. Arctic Circle Dave
,
David Schmitz, thank you! We appreciate you following, we do plan to have a few incomes in the future to help us sustain our "minimal" lifestyle :)
Homesteaders in Alaska. I love it.
Beautiful work
You guys are a true inspiration! So happy I found your channel. Hoping that one day, I too can live in Alaska.
Looking great!!! You both are such an inspiration and you're hard work will pay off. Very much enjoying your channel.
Liked the professional, time-lapse intro of the quiet moments of life and nature in your area; thank you. Didn't know that moose can clear 8 ft+ of fencing, so nice to see the electric fencing on top. Nice to see your dogs supervising the work, and think that hammer back scratch was most welcomed by your dog as well! Think its going to be nice seeing you guys benefit from the harvest down the road after all that hard work. Appreciate giving us the tour.
We used to have a German Shepard that could clear an 8 ft fence 😂
I did a lot of solar in our ten years here.....
Don't let them people convince you that your battery is bad.
Seldom such a thing.
When a battery is low...
The charger cannot see it and will not charge it.
You must trick the charger.
Connect a hot battery to the dead battery and quickly connect the charger.
It will begin charging both.
Later you can remove the hot battery.
Keep an eye on the water.
Catch rain water for your batteries..
Better than what you buy
That's pretty good advice!
I love watching this channel. You need to buy a T post driver. :-) i get a lot of ideas from you guys, especially canning and storing food.
Oh to be young again. You two are really doing an awesome job with your land. Just a tip..No need to add water to concrete for fence post. I found this out after the fact as well...
LOVE LOVE LOVE the videos I totally love the bloopers it gives us all a real sense of your life you totally need a video of all the bloopers
Killin it you guys... 😎👌
I am so bloody proud of you both. You are both extremely hard workers and you have achieved so much since you moved to Alaska. Give yourselves a huge pat on the back and I cannot wait to see your first harvest and how you can, dehydrate it etc. The end is always a huge LOL for me. Run Forrest Run lololol. Life is like a box of chocolates hey? Michelle xx
bohemiangypsy99, thank you Michelle! We are so looking forward to harvesting food! We absolutely are going to be focusing on preservation too! :)
I bet your proud of the hard workers they raised. Lol
hi i m aidar i sorry my broken english i watch your video every day and lean english yours video a lot of positive thank you guys you make me better
You’ve made that area look fantastic!
Suggestion for setting fence posts. Dig hole, brace post along x/y axis. Wet down the inside of the hole. Pour in dry quick crete. Leave about 3 in head space. Pour in recommended amount of water from directions. Remove braces after two days. Saves a bunch of work mixing concrete in wheel barrow.
Y’all got an amazing live ahead of you. Love to see people working hard for what they want.
Bandit laying in the hay was my very favorite part.
Watching these in 2021 makes me happy that you were able to purchase all this wood before it was sky high! Great job you two. I love watching your videos, gives me hope for my new 20 acres and all the possibilities it holds. Most definitely earned a subscription from me!
Just watched the two videos on the garden, we bet you sleep well at night. Great job on everything, very impressive.
Run another Poly-Wire string (or 2) about 4-6" from the ground for the little critters. A full grown cottontail will go thru a 2" chainlink or 2x4 welded like butter. Use the short standoffs to keep it close to fence and don't let weeds grow up on it or will make contact and fence won't work.
All you need now is some long hot Alaskan days and that garden will come along beautifully
I am absolutely enjoying this channel. Please if possible always post the links to gets the items. I’m in love for this channel. Do you guys plan a alive video streaming where we can ask questions and know you guys more. You guys became a UA-cam celebrity, I hope you don’t get offended with my comments
I love Alaska and as soon as the pandemic catastrophe is over, I will go to visit again. As a health care provider now working crazy, and when vacation will be possible, Alaska will come again. Thank you for your channel. Peter
Nice work folks! Our burro and pony learned to test the electric fence with a whisker to see if it was on (we left it off a lot for various reasons), if not they go ahead and lean on the fence for grass on the other side trashing the fences. :D
Love your videos
Looks so good!
Love the ending!
Great! You are smart couple😁👍
😁😎WOW😁😎 looking good 😁😎thanks for sharing 😁😎🤗
I have a lot of fun watching you two! I am always impressed by how much you both know.
Someone suggested no cement for the posts given the lack of depth & potential for heaving from freezing. My Self Reliance scorches the bottom of his posts in the fire for a while so as to keep moisture / rot / bugs at bay - would be useful for those posts in the tunnel too!!! Just started watching your channel & love it. Thanks for sharing.
AnniamNgoppe thanks for the tip, we will have to look into that :)
Great looking fence. Seeing you build it brought back some not so fond memories of fencing and cross fencing 200 acres of hills and hollers.
James Couch, that sounds pleasant :D We are hoping to put in a large fence behind the chicken coop and not looking forward to it!
@@SimpleLivingAlaska when you're done you can help me fence mine in :-)
Awesome, everything is coming along nicely!!
Good job on the fence, critters don't much care for electrical love. I hope it works with the wild. Because you live in an area that has a little more snow fall then Oregon I personally would have added about three to four more center support posts in your long house. I don't know if ether of you watch the science reports on global warming and weather change. They scare the shit outa me but I'm still watching and hoping their wrong. I know your having an unseasonable heat wave right now and although that could just be a flewk, and just weird weather, it might also be nature telling you to grow as much as you can and store as much as you can. Looking forward to your next installment.
Wilber Peebody appreciate the comment, climate change does concern us tremendously, hence why we do much of what we do but we are still working towards being as sufficient as we can :)
The amount of work you two do is amazing...
Looks awesome! Glad to see a TALL fence for the moose! Great job!
Looking good you have got a lot done
From sunny London UK, loving your progress. 👍
WoW a lot of work done and that’s looking great
Another great video u 2, Im so proud of you all, LOVE to see young folks working, wish you all the best,, GOD BLESS from n.c.
As always you two have done a fantastic job!! It all looks so good!!
Great video y’all...that is some brutally hard work, I got tired just watching y’all work
We use an ice auger to dig holes. Works good for ice fishing too
Vera Wol maybe I could try our hand auger haha!
You definitely need a fence post driver. You will no doubt put it to good use.
A moose clearing a 12 foot fence? I gotta see video of that! Super moose.
Looking good you two. What a great garden that will be..!! I thought you would pee on the fence to test it out.. LOL. So impressed you guys. Love it. Have a fantastic night you two..!! ❤️
Thank goodness for wheel barrows, nice job
I will be looking forward to your finished crops. Yummy! Art
Great video!
They make fence testers that show you the strength of the shock.
Beautiful already
I would suggest that unless you go below the frost line, don't bother with cement. Similar to your rationale for no cement inside the tunnel, you can replace easier. Cement also gives more for frost to heave!
Good luck other wise
Looks great!
You: 💪🏻
Me: on day 26 of building my 2- 20 hole strawberry towers.
It's looking really good
Wow! If only I had half the energy you guys need to be able to live like this...! You both deserve a beer break in a wheelbarrow!
Excellent vid! I have to do the same thing at our Idaho Homestead!!!! I got the solar fence unit and wire and insulators ready to go!
Do you guys miss not seeing more leafy trees? Like red maples and so forth... I think I would be a little lonely without those trees
Maybe add a half acre fenced potato, carrot and cabbage garden with a sandbag root cellar for storage!
Nice job! Just a hint, use a self closing latch on your gate. When your hands are full you won't have to fiddle with a bolt latch.
If you aligned your tunnel east west then leave the snow on the north side if you can as it is an excellent insulator. Remove just the south side to let the solar gain through.
