What we have here is a man and a woman in a garden.Didn't I read something about that one time?Lovely things never change. How it was in the beginning is how it is now.I like the birds and the bees and the promise of tommorro .God bless these two!!All this was His idea anyway.

Assuming you've got bears, you probably need to put your hive inside the electric fence or make a bear proof yard for them.If the rabbits squeeze through your welded wire fence and the young ones will, add some chicken wire fencing along the bottom. You might want to place your compost pile inside your electric fence as it will attract vermin and predators to the chicken coop.Good Luck!

Cats make good bunny hunters as well. If bunnies do get in the fenced in area, just bring the cats in with you. They'll make short work of the wascally wabbits. Vaughn

Battery tip: If solar charging, the panels are more efficient when cold and the battery takes/gives charge better when its warm. so put your battery and charge controller inside your garden shed or enclosure and run the solar panel leads indoors. You'll get a higher voltage and have higher capacity at the wire in winter.

Hey you guys, I'm Dave from North Pole , East of Fairbanks, and soon to be in Bettles/Evansville, 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle. I Have been watching from the start but am still a little hazy on how a young couple can afford to move to Alaska and do all you have. I will not fault you on your work ethic--you both are solid workers and have accomplished an amazing amount. Your work on the chicken coop and the garden was over the top in planning and backbreaking effort. It reminds me of what I could do forty years ago. I congratulate you on your efforts. I will pray for your safety and health as you continue this summer. May God bless you both. Arctic Circle Dave

Liked the professional, time-lapse intro of the quiet moments of life and nature in your area; thank you. Didn't know that moose can clear 8 ft+ of fencing, so nice to see the electric fencing on top. Nice to see your dogs supervising the work, and think that hammer back scratch was most welcomed by your dog as well! I did a lot of solar in our ten years here.....
Don't let them people convince you that your battery is bad.
    Seldom such a thing.
    When a battery is low...
The charger cannot see it and will not charge it.
    You must trick the charger.
Connect a hot battery to the dead battery and quickly connect the charger.
    It will begin charging both.
Later you can remove the hot battery.
Keep an eye on the water.
Catch rain water for your batteries..
    Better than what you buy

Suggestion for setting fence posts. Dig hole, brace post along x/y axis. Wet down the inside of the hole. Pour in dry quick crete. Leave about 3 in head space. Pour in recommended amount of water from directions. Remove braces after two days. Saves a bunch of work mixing concrete in wheel barrow.

Run another Poly-Wire string (or 2) about 4-6" from the ground for the little critters. A full grown cottontail will go thru a 2" chainlink or 2x4 welded like butter. Use the short standoffs to keep it close to fence and don't let weeds grow up on it or will make contact and fence won't work.

Good job on the fence, critters don't much care for electrical love. I hope it works with the wild. Because you live in an area that has a little more snow fall then Oregon I personally would have added about three to four more center support posts in your long house. I don't know if ether of you watch the science reports on global warming and weather change. They scare the shit outa me but I'm still watching and hoping their wrong. I know your having an unseasonable heat wave right now and although that could just be a flewk, and just weird weather, it might also be nature telling you to grow as much as you can and store as much as you can. Looking forward to your next installment.

If you aligned your tunnel east west then leave the snow on the north side if you can as it is an excellent insulator. Remove just the south side to let the solar gain through.
