We usually hide them behind flowers, there is also usually some wires that connect the light to the socket. You can also try to run the excess light over the acrylic again until it's all used up.

The acrylic is attached to the cake with a Skeewer, that part was easy to take off, the part glued to the board required a bit of cake taking of f. The flower attached didn't connect any 2 cakes together at any point so it was more like taking a puzzle apart and setting it up again.
