Here in Tampa we loved George. He did SO much for our community and for those in need. The New York Yankees spring training is here. I ran a service call at his Tampa home a few years before he passed and I was in awe. RIP Mr Steinbrenner
That bronze "boxer" statue in the beginning is of a 3 year old little boy. How sad. Thank you for your thoroughness, and for giving us the positive side of Steinbrenner's story.
Another good presentation! Much appreciation for all you do. George was special and Seinfeld's parody of him was hilarious! Keep up the good and thoughtful service. ~
Your commentary, as always. was excellent and really informative. As overseas viewers we had not heard of George Steinbrenner, thank you for introducing us to his life story.
Exactly - I grew up in the NY area in the "Boss era" and Yankee fans literally worshipped the man! Mets fans wished George owned the Mets - but I believe the Mets have their George now :)
Fantastic vlog, Mr. Jordan! I grew up in WI, but my brother was a huge Yankees fan. He still has large, black and white posters of Mantle, DiMaggio, and Ruth. So, in turn, I became a huge Yankees fan myself. Of course the Milwaukee Brewers will be my fav team though, lol.
I am a former Security Supervisor at a Casino/Hotel who also used to be assigned as Security for the stars that appeared there. I was once assigned to Joe DiMaggio for a huge baseball convention. Mantle and Ted Williams were also there. I overheard a conversation between Joe D. and a famous baseball Manager who told Joe that a lot of people criticize and hate George Steinbrenner but he is a great a kind person. He said that anytime he needs someone for charity George gets it right to him.
@@christianfranz2686 Joe told the old story of him having gotten older and slowing down so they told Mickey who was so fast to get to whatever he could in the outfield. Mickey was running full out and got his spike caught in a drainage grate in the outfield. All that I had heard before but Joe added to it by saying the sound of Mantle’s knee tearing was so bad that he almost threw up in the outfield. He said that still bothered him.
@@donaldandrews8820 definitely know the grate story with Mickey... saw him twice at Tiger Stadium.. I was 7 then 9. Absolute magic to me seeing #7. My dad got us down behind BP, and Kaline and Mantle were together talking !! Another memory that luckily I haven't forgotten yet.. I never will. 🇺🇲
@@ScratchGlass9 yeah unfortunately I only got to see him at the end of his career when he was playing 1st base. The cool thing about Mr. DiMaggio was I saw him walking and even though he was old at the time he walked like he was on air. I looked at him and thought if I didn’t have any idea who Joe DiMaggio was I would have known he used to be an athlete or a dancer. I remember my parents used to really enjoy Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and I remember watching them thinking they looked like they were dancing on air. That is how Mr. DiMaggio looked.
That was a great episode brother. I grew up in the California bay area. I was a Giants fan and an A's fan but you knew the Yankees was the top team in the American league to beat. You could either love him or hate him but you definitely had to respect him
Jordan,, this vlog is AWESOME my friend I was born in the BRONX, NY. In 1954 about 4 miles from the stadium now live in MONTANA the Yankees are the best team in America !!! I love this vlog... Most of your vlogs hit me hard brings back a ton of memories thank you very much FRANK FROM MONTANA........
Hi Jordan you do a great job of making video i like to watched your video you are doing a great job keep up what you doing anyway I am new of your channel noerina
Coming from Connecticut I'm a big Yankees fan, my cousins were Red Sox fans so they always had to put me down but my dear uncle Ray who also was a Red Sox fan and passed while watching a game, told his kids it was OK and good that I choose to be different, loved my Uncle Ray such a guy, they never missed a Red Sox game bless his heart ♥ RIP DEAR sweet Uncle I miss you so much
The one feat in baseball that will most likely never happen again was Reggie Jackson hitting three home runs in three consecutive at bats and on the first pitch each time. 3 pitches, 3 swings, 3 HR's all in a row. I think most other owners didn't like George because he had more money than all of them and w/out salary caps back then he threw all that money at the team. Kind of like what the Dodgers are doing today. I think this years World Series might be the Dodgers and the Yankees.
Hey Jordan, thought I'd let you know, it was the Montreal Canadians who are the most winningest sports team in history. They've won 24 Stanley Cups. Of course, they've been around for like a century already and there were only 6 teams in the entire league when they first started.
I remember as a kid growing up hearing that Steinbrenner basically bought his World Series wins because he had so much money to buy the best players. My sense as a kid was that it was frustrating for other teams because they couldn’t compete with that. He definitely wasn’t liked outside of NY for that reason but he sounds like he wasn’t all bad with his humanitarian efforts.
Like I told my grandpa, "I do envy being a fan if a team that actually sees ownership caring, and every year Yankees fans feel like they have a better than average chance at competing every year. It's not something Reds fans get to feel.."
@@DazewithJordantheLion they were competitive in the 70's with Pete Rose and Ken Griffey. I'm not sure if you are old enough to remember that team but when my A's won the world series 3 years in a row the Reds was one of those teams. Then if memory serves me right the Reds did win it all '75 and '76. You had Louis Nippert was the owner back then.
Thanks Jordan. Committed Red Sox fan but enjoyed the rivalry with the Sox that he really built. We here in Boston did not care for his wild spending in those years. My greatest sports moment is beating the Yankees in 2004 in the biggest collapse in a series in the history of the game.
George would be mortified by the epic collapse of his team who are probably best off slipping to the # 6 seed & hoping to get healthy. Cashman literally traded a promising pitcher for a guy in a boot 👢! That guy ( Montgomery) is 6-0 since.. the guy acquired.. still in a boot 👢! 😠 😡 - Thanks for letting me vent 😆
Mr Steinbrenner was a visionary, he knew what was best for his team . That's what alot of teams needs a leader who know how to win . 🏆 What he forgot was you have to lose every now and then and never play dirty when it comes to contracts. This was some incredible story Jordan. 👏
Being a big sports fan George wanted a winner no matter what the cost. The game has changed so much with Division Playoffs and Wild Card games. The road to a Championship is much more difficult now.
Fascinating history of my favorite baseball team. Thankfully George didn't get a chance to buy another team - he cemented the NY Yankees history and made the franchise viable. Thanks Jordan- and your knowledge of baseball is impressive! 😊❤️☀️☀️🦩☺️

If you were a yankee fan you loved George Steinbrenner because you knew he was going to spend whatever necessary to win.

Wow! I knew about Edward Scissorhands in Land O Lakes where I live and now up the street on 54 in trinity the boss is here. Another great job!👍
Amazing you used a picture of The Boss and Thurman Munson to open! My dad's favorite player

Joe DiMaggio one of the greatest ball players that ever lived alone with Micky Mantle

He was quite the character. Loved when George worked (did his best not to work) at the Yankees. They were hilarious episodes.

I remember watching that World Series as a kid, growing up in the 70's. Craig Nettles kept making incredible defensive plays, too!

Daryl Strawberry owed the I.R.S. over 700,000 in back taxes, and George paid for it.
