The AMD K6 350Mhz was my very first computer build back in 1998. I did have some issues with compatibility back then and went intel since, I have only one AMD machine today, it was a great value on sale, and I dont regrett buying now, but I generally use Intel Server Xeons with Supermicro motherboards and ECC memory for my lab/storage needs.
No firewall or server company wants to offer a reasonable home/homelan price. A simple yearly $20 to $100 to support a community support version for home use. Every vendor doesn't want to "cheapen" their offerings that way.
Hey Tom, raffle off the discontinued hardware and give the money to a local charity. Like one that provides emotional support pets for kids with cancer. Win-Win-Win. Maybe join with other tubers and share the logistics load of the raffle once a year or so. Homelab is a great community and a little cat-herding can result in a lot of good for the world.
