Is Making an Official MP Starscream Difficult? | KO MP-52 and MP-11#Transformers Review
I don't get why they want to bury Screamer 1.0 when it literally has the best jet mode in the entire history of the franchise. Even my friend who's all about modern jets was impressed that an F-15 could be that accurate and still transform. Also, 3.0 does deserve props for making his jet mode actually accurate to how the underside looked in the show.
Arr you talking about scream Mp-03 or Mp-11
@@sidewalkfish9256 MP-03
@@hyperdimensionbliss ok 👍🏻
@@sidewalkfish9256 Well, there are technically 3 different Masterpiece versions of Starscream and the third is 2.0 when it really should be 3.0. Starscream, MP-03 / 1.0, might suck in robot mode but, that's only because it was designed to be a realistic take on the plane mode. So, while the robot mode sucks, the alt mode is the best of the 3.
@@saysoun752 i know, i knew he wasnt talkin About MP-52
After seeing JobbyTheHong’s review on Crimson wing and the transformation, I forgive the absence of a waist swivel
Given the existence of the offerings of Maketoys, Magic Square and Newage, I’m unsure if the waist swivel on Deformation Space’s version was the reason for the abhorrent transformation.
I always loved the design of g1 seekers, its just cool and the classic that started all, even tho i want legacy g1 seekers,g1 designs is never get old tbh,in my opinion mp-wfc siege did a great job for remake the seekers designs
G1 can get old
@@OnJonYT depends
The G1 designs are good but at this point them reusing the G1 designs over and over is getting reaaaallly Tiring
@@elitegamer21005 Nah, it’s not even G1 fatigue it’s just G1 nausea by this point.
G1 has solid bases that can be released a lot and series should take inspiration but variation is good changing things and spinning them into interesting ideas
Well unless your megatron who can’t catch a break with international gun laws that don’t actually tackle the root causes of the problems they band aid
These longer form videos are pretty neat every once in a while. I like the in depth look at some of these more *controversial* figures and the comparison style review is always interesting.
The jet mode details on the original MP mold were likely the influence of mecha designer Shoji Kawamori (of Macross/Robotech fame as the designer of the VF Valkyrie…aka the mecha toy Hasbro imported as G1 Jetfire). The man was brought on board to design a realistic Starscream since this was back in the day when the earliest Masterpiece figures didn’t really have a set design philosophy or aesthetic. I imagine all the weird and neat but pointless details were the result of that design aesthetic. These kinds of details you see a lot on other mecha figures from out of Japan.
2:23 the clip is for an mp accessory Megatron gun that can be attached when clipped on and plugged underneath the nosecone for the mp 11 mold
I’ve stopped getting Masterpieces ever since they got too slavish to the 80’s show. And guess who broke that trend? Yep, MP Skids.
I do hope they move away from Sunbow accuracy soon. I know they’re sort of sticking to it with the upcoming Skywarp and Cliffjumper but those are repaints of existing Sunbow MP’s.
I think for every one of you that hate the toon aesthetic, there is 2-3 of collectors like myself that want them as toon as it can get. At least I hope so.
I think they had to deviate from toon accuracy with Skids because of the Honda license. They REALLY wanted a figure in time for the City Turbo anniversary.
@@maskai3408 unfortunately
@@mikehock5285 Same here. Growing up on the G1 cartoon, in robot mode, I want the transformers to look as cartoon accurate as possible.
At the same time, I want the alt-mode to look as realistic to real life vehicles and planes as possible. The MP-52 design did exactly that. 👍🏼
I agree. As much as I like these designs, most of the time it just hurts the engineering hell of a lot. At that point, it's not really worth it.
Crimson wings may be tricky with transformation, but it's very engaging as a figure. The joints are tight and not floppy like 52, the colors are much more vibrant and saturated which I prefer, he's more blocky but it makes him look more powerful almost, it's an excellent starscream, and unless fanstoys makes a seeker, it can't be topped
I do want to mention something. This is not the 4th party MP-52 1:1 KO. This is the EG-01 Eagle MP-52 Starscream KO. Although they are both KO's, the EG-01 is different than the 1:1 because of the diecast feet, the replacement of screws instead of pins, and nylon ratchet joints. Just wanted to put it out there since the 4th party KO and the EG-01 KO are different in terms of what both companies are offering
I know it’s been a long time since this comment, but which would you say is better?
@@B5P134 obviously the eagle since it has the fixed joints, my personal preference is crimson wings though
@@sirhellsing I actually have had both now (plus crimson wings) and I found the eagle to feel cheaper than the 1:1 bootleg. None of them really did it for me though so I ended up caving and just buying the official takara and it’s my favourite so far.
@@B5P134 Interesting, for me CW is already perfect, the complex transformation doesn't really bother me and I hate faux parts so CW is the peak. I do wish some company would use the CW engineering and clean it up a bit and it would be THE starscream imo
Got both this and Crimson wing and, even as good as Crimson Wing is, I really like the sculpt of MP-52.
I love mp 3, it's from a different time in the line when it was going for more of an "Alternators" design philosophy. Because of that the jet mode is hands down perfect. Yeah, the robot mode is pretty rough because of that but the side of the jet that become hip-skirts were actually meant to look like sword sheaths according to the designer. The face also pulls down from the helmet and flips to reveal the best Starscream smirk of all time and by itself brings enough character to make the figure. Yes it isn't animation accurate, but that's because it's not trying to be.
I'll also mention I've got Mp-3 and Mp-52+ (Thundercracker) and i still prefer Mp-3 overall.
I totally agree with you... alternator line is my favorite line. mp3 is great be great because the plane is the best transforming plane ever. Yes the bot mode is not perfect but it good for the time.
masterpiece starscream (the new one) just looks so damn good, quite literally jumped out of the screen AND pulls off a sleek jet that also looks like it jumps out of the screen. super super good figure IMO (even without the waist swivel 😾)
I still love how the Kingdom one is basically a Pretender Starscream jet proportionally. I never understood why they didn't redeco it *as* the Pretender Starscream colors. Easy GenSel money.
I actually like mp-1 D: I always liked the look of the f-15 and the fact it transforms is awesome, but its damn near impossible to make a convincing jet mode that LOOKs like the real jet its made after.
The OG Masterpiece Starscream has a beauty & heritage all its own. You'll rarely see a clean copy sell for less than original MSRP & Takara's MP-03 is a heavy hitter on the secondary market; even on Japanese websites. Anyway, to each his own.
agree. the only reason it's not popular from some collectors is that it doesnt look like the cartoon but I also like the MP-03
I love how the knock off did Starscream’s better
I'm satisfied with Earthrise Starscream, in my eyes, its like a mini-MP52.
Yeah, if anything the only issue I have is the nosecone of the jet on his back, though considering it’s just a voyager I can forgive that
There were two KOs of the MP11 mold, by BB7 (Takara colors) and KuBianBao (Hasbro colors); the torso issue was resolved by extending the tab that connects it, it's also made of diecast. Sadly, the bits on the chest that flip open to reveal the missile pods can still flop around since they don't exactly lock into anything to begin with. And it didn't extend to the Coneheads, since these were well before Takara retooled the mold for'em. I think KuBianBao had a KO of the iGear ones, and BB7 had a KO of the Toyworld ones. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Personally, while I’m disappointed by the lack of a waist joint, I’m okay with it not being there. In the cartoon, while major characters and definitely dynamic, the Seekers were never really acrobatic and because of the wings and the character models I don’t remember them doing much turning at all. In the ‘86 movie I remember when Megs mentioned “Unlike some of my other warriors”, Starscream turned around, but even then his legs moved and his whole body shifted instead of him turning at the waist. In action scenes the seekers pretty much stood straight with their arms out firing their null rays, and the only iconic poses Starscream has are of him just standing there gloating/being smug, even in “My fellow Deceptions, as your new leader I-“ he just moved his arms and head. If anything to get some poses to look more natural I’d ask for a limited waist swivel like Voyager ROTB Prime has, but as-is I think it’s fine and I never have any waist-related issues posing my MP or Earthrise seekers
And newage exists. Simple transformation with a sleek robot mode and jet mode. Such a good mold that I adore.
They aren’t trying to make us forget mp-03, it’s just that the mp 11 wasn’t a new mold, it was like an mp 03 “anime version”
Anyway great video!
Deformation space made a solid starscream. And it’s an original mold
The one problem with dr locks copy of mp52 is that he apparently got the crappist copy of the mold
I seen your link on twitter, So I subscribed, liked, and commented.
My copy of MP-11 doesnt... doesnt have that torso problem? So it kinda seems to me they did fix it at some point. It does have the shoulder problem though. And the same messy sprue cutting you pointed out on the KO, so that was fun to get on an expensive-ass official product
I 100% agree with your take on KO's. I have a few KO's in my collection as well, but they're figures that aren't available on the market anymore, and the aftermarket prices are ridiculous. At that point, you're not supporting HasTak, just the guy charging $600 - $1000 for MP-44 brand new.
I just started collecting Masterpiece figures. I spent two weeks doing research on which Starscream I wanted to go with. In the end, I settled on Crimson Wings. I would go with EG-01, but again I don't want to support a KO while the official is on the market. Even if the official is plagued with both quality and build issues.
As an owner of a version of 1.0 (walmart exclusive version), it's unfortunate that the mold isn't talked about more. It's not amazing by a longshot, but it's more interesting than anything.
*I* went out of my way to get MP-3 Starscream
I have all four repaints MP-01 molds way before the newer one...too expensive to replace but they're not that horrible.
Also, I have bought three KO's (MP-44 being one of them) and I have to say they are all improvements above the official. I never had the official MP-44 (way too expensive) but did have sunstreaker and soundwave as well as the KO version. Both of which were more solid as a KO. The officials live in their boxes while the KO's are on display and get played with...
JobbytheHong had the chest and shoulder problems with his starscream version couple years ago
This is the most critical toy guy review, second to the mpm 12
I hate to say this but my skids is absolute garbage, floppiest joints in my collection so he’s being shipped out today to an eBay buyer, just goes to show it can be completely hit or miss, my starscream is pretty good but has cracking on the tailfins from out of the box and ankles are loose.
Honestly if you get a version of mp 3 that isn't starscream it's not bad (I have the skywarp version) it has a waist swivel and the chest doesn't do the weird sliding thing
I do have my eyes set on an mp-03 skywarp next tfcon cause I still want to experience the toy for myself
@@ThatToyGuy if you actually find one there are almost no (good) reviews on this figure so it would be great to see one in your style
I love the knockoffs nose cone opening
so if takara never fixed mp11 what makes you think they fixed mp52 ? that make very little sense to me , or will they copy the bootleggers fixes ?
I don't know if I've just been very lucky, but my MP-52 doesn't have any problems. I've got all three versions of MP-52 and all of them are solid and have good tolerances.
It's also the only MP I actually enjoy transforming back and forth.
My Starscream's MP11 KO's fingers kept falling off similar as yours. They should've used metallic hinges
I don't really believe mp03 is a failure since it's basically mp11 with a sideskirt thing but it did not even have to be there, prototype images showed it looking much more like mp11
MP-3 a failure? Nah, it's better than MP-11
LOL my thought exactly. i have mp-3 and mp-11 is in the box. that should ya something lol
i wouldn't say its difficult since deformation space crimson wing exists but i would say takara has no clue how to do an mp starscream hell even a mpm starscream (the jet mode is fucking terrible and somehow does a worse job of being a transformer then the old leader starscrean figure) also who is that black seeker at 6:09
Another Great video keep up the good work
I’m curious abt the black mp seeker, is that offical or a custom, and maybe could you do a yt short on it as it looks rlly good
DS-01 crimson wing all day
Deformation space crimson wings is better than 52
Would you perhaps review Fanstoys Quietus? If the price seems too high there's a KO called MHZ Toys Hurricane that goes for almost a third the price
I think tm reviews did a review of a pretty old starscream ko and they fixed the chest issue by making the peg just a little longer
in the g1 cartoon he never swivels his waist so it’s all good for me
Actually, considering Crimson WIng Likely went into devolopment before MP-52 was public knowledge, it was probably competing with Howling Meteor.
I had the older thundercracker and had the same torso sliding issue. I had tightened the only screw for the joint and it helped considerably. Hopefully you have the same effect
15:57 I actually got an SS Sentinel for like $24.
You dunk on my MP03 but all of its problems were present in the next iteration. You showed them; the sliding torso, the arms that don't peg in properly.. Floppy wings. The only thing they fixed were his guns and that side panel. Old.. not obsolete.
Yeah.... Buying that KO now.... I don't KO shame so yes, i'll buy it
I just know that I bought DS-10 and throw to the trash my starscream masterpiece, that tired I was of all its problems
Who is the black jet with the yellow stripes on the wings? Is that a masterpiece style Air Raid?
Zeta toys Air Raid
Love my Thundercracker. Just put some blu tack in the middle of hist waist in bot mode
the quality varies from figure to figure
bro you cant just diss the nosecone opening gimmick on a toy jet. that is SACRILEGE
I love my maketoys meteor, but it has a lot of issues standing.
I have MP3 (Greenscream) and the Walmart skywarp and Mp11 Thundercracker. I would love a (toon colours) Stars cream... but Mp52 is way too expensive. I also live inthe Durham area, where did you get you KO Mp52 Stars cream for $80-$90 cad?
The nose cone opening is actually real world accurate because that’s where the gun is. The bumps on the circle are the barrels.
No, the nose cone holds the radar. An F-15's gatling gun is housed on the right side near the leading edge of the wing
they coulda fixed the chest thing from mp 3 idk why the cockpit section doesnt slide all the way down on mp 11, ive got the coronation one and i love it but the neck just looks so bad. i really wish the chest was just better (why is the cockpit canopy that color?)
You DO have the mold for MP 03. MP 11 is a remold of it. Hence why MP 52 is a 2.0. The ammount of times this has to be explained in embarassing.
Nah you're embarrassing. Mp3 has side panels that don't exist on mp 11 and thats exactly what he's talking about in the video
@@daveyognaut6132 but that doesn't make it an entirely differently figure. FFS nobody at Takara even had to design in the damn thing because fans already did it.
This is like changing the tires on a car and calling it an entirely different model of car. That's how stupid people sound about this.
@@NexusProductions-rz1sv but he doesn't have that version of the mold which is what he's saying. No one's arguing that's mp11 isn't a remold but give that is has a slight different transformation then it is a different figure.
I have a soft spot for Mp 11 spasifically the thunder cracker repaint
mp03 is actually quite good if you dare ruin any chance of reselling it by doing the self modding of the legs and samurai scabbards !
They can't seem to get the colors right on Starscream. That light blue is just awful. I vastly prefer the WFC Siege, cybertronian version.
320 dollars less and fixed problems? that's definetivly to buy KO, 1 think I want to ask, is on that KO paint chipping?
Funny thing I only own 2 masterpiece transformers MP01 and MP03
Howling meteor
Your reasoning for getting MP-52 is the same reason why I'm getting a KO of MP beast wars Megatron.
$400 CAD is insane
Ikr. I much prefer to buy the originals but those prices are waaaaay too high to justify buying them
I have the same KO but I just cant get the jet mode to stay together so idk what im doing wrong
I don’t like the height. He should be as big as the older one on bot mode.
10:13 so we are not gonna acknowledge emgo
Good Jobs
Good stuff
I dont care about the waist swivel breaking the sculp
I mean what sculp, he is robot
He doesnt have abs or anything
Where to get that ko?
Showz or sirtoys
Internet.
Ramjet is clearly the better conehead
I think mp 52 is great
Can you a get newage seeker, its very good
I do plan on it
I bought my legit mp-52 for $190 CAD. Don't know where you are shopping.
DONT BUY THRUST. he's fucking horrrrrible, I know from personal experience.
Pain
@That Toy Guy I know man. I'm not sure if the one I got was a KO but he's probably the worst version of MP-11. I guess if it makes you feel better, you should check out RP-01 Acoustic Wave, amazing figure that trumps the current MP Soundwave
I was gonna get the maketoys thrust but maketoys hasn't made anything in ages so I don't think that ones gonna see the light of day. And yeah acoustic wave I would buy but he goes for almost 300 here in Canada
@That Toy Guy 350 USD on TFSource, he's 100% worth the price though, I'll tell you that.
The only big issues I have with him is his stability and his joints in his knees, besides that he's damn near perfect for me
Also yes I use TFsource, yes it's cheaper anywhere else but I'm kind of a.. how do I put it, "Simpleton" and I don't really like waiting for stock to come back. I'll gladly pay extra bullshit instead of waiting on places like Show Z store for 10 years wondering when they'll be back in stock
Has anybody tried swapping be upgraded joint parts from the knock off to the official masterpiece Starscream?
Not that I have aeent
MP 11 is a grail of mine. It transforms accuratelly, the jet has so many realistic functions, sadly not scaling with lego minifigures, I love the colors, the detail, the decepticon symbols
He has the og transformation and turns into a really great realistic robot. It's what he'd look like in real life. I love the face, he don't partsform and yeah he could have been more poseable, but that doesn't make a transformer for me, transformation does. You can get poseability from any action figure but an accurate transformation into a realistic recognisable iconic robot, not really.
LOVE MP11
uuhhhhhhh what do you mean by "he has the of transformation"?
The nosecone folds into the cockpit
Yo
Dr lockdown had really shit QC, would take what he says with a grain of salt lol
It ain't just me. Most of my friends copies got fucked over too
First
congratulation and now go get a job
I mean, Starscream's design shouldn't have a waist joint just by looking at it. That's just how it is if you don't want fake parts or the cockpit being all segmented. Why force a design to have something that shouldn't be there?
Oh god MP-11 looks so shotty nowadays
It's what Starscream would look like if he was real so not really. It looks fantastic
I don’t like the height. He should be as big as the older one on bot mode.
