- Is it worth getting a camera that is narrow minded? Specialist cameras that focus on one area, or more versatile cameras that excel at many tasks? What about super slow motion cameras that shoot 1000fps like the Freefly wave or Chronos HD 2.1? Much better slow mo than the Sony A7S III, but MUCH less versatile.

I still think the best "vlogging" cam is an action cam. I just used my DJI Action 1 this week for the first time in at least a year. For a walk and talk field trip on rougher terrain, this thing just can't be beat! So light and stable, everything is always in focus, 4K 60 all day with no overheating, external lav mic, I mean what's not to love about these things? I had forgotten how good the Action 1 truly is, only when they finally put a 1" sensor in the thing will I actually consider upgrading. Until then, my scrap yard field trip vlog looks pretty damn good from the Action 1. Cheers 🍻

Good to see you checked out the freefly wave. I may rent it this winter for a single day. AF is a real concern, but stabilization really isn't going to matter at these frame rates so long as you keep it in frame and level-ish.
Great job on the video. Thanks for making it. I've been looking at getting a second camera body, and I've had my heart set on the A7IV until they announced the FX30. I'm already a crop-sensor shooter, and I thought it would be nice to step up to full-frame, but I'm not really sure that I absolutely need it. The higher framerates seem more worth it to me than full frame. I'm betting with that 20mm f1.8, it will look pretty rad.
I use the Peak Design Capture clip which is an amazing product for its quick release design; and, recently purchased a Ulanzi & Coman ZeroY carbon fiber tripod. Your video gave me a brief case of buyers remorse on the tripod end of the scale.
So, I hopped on the Ulanzi website and was able to purchase the F38 quick release ballhead (as an upgradable part); as, it's fully compatible with the ZeroY's triangular center mounting pole.
I'm very appreciative to the fact that Ulanzi offer upgradability vs other companies that intentionally design around planned obsolescence. Well done Ulanzi!!! I love gear designs that play nicely together!

RX100m7 is quite interesting for super slowmotion. It's fun. 24-200mm lens. The buffer of HFR is 4-7 seconds. Not bad for a pocket size camera.
One guy... right! I worked camera on some tragic shooting coverage. National ( not me) press was all there. The police ask for just one cameraman to go into the scene to get footage for the network pool, cause it was sensitive. In unison all the shooters said 'oh, send Al'. Al lumbers in with his Betacam with all the paint worn off. He's like 'got it'. Because they didn't need 27 of us lumbering around in there all shooting the same footage.

As a 4/3rds peasant I would appreciate a gh6/50-200 wildlife field test so I can feel a tiny shred of redemption about the 4/3 system and past purchasing decisions.

After lusting for it I finally have The Cinema! I recently bought a used(very low hours) Canon C-100 mki.(yes I know but it’s all I could afford). And this thing is a beast. Sure it doesn’t have ANY slow motion…or auto focus(not ready to pay $500 for DPAF firmware upgrade), and it’s only 1080p, but…but, it just looks so good. None of my other cameras come close(6D mki, 5D mkii and mkiii) to the quality of the image out of the C-100. I seem to distinctly remember YOU inspiring me to get it, so….my question is, weren’t you trying to get a C-100 mkii, and what lenses would you use for that 3D pop?

Love your videos, there is an Arabic proverb: "Best bread purchase is when its hot, crunchy and cheap!!" which of course there is no such item.. Seems like there is no perfect camera.
I had the same FX30 / 70-200 GM II (awesome lens) idea. The cropped 1.6x 4K120 is clean and will get me to 480mm FF equivalent. I get to focus near me as well. For you, I'm not saying it'll replace the A7S3 with the 200-600 but it'll complement it for sure.
What about 100-400 gm it will give 600mm f8 equivalent. Which is still far from a7Siii but good enough.

For APS-C you need faster, sharper lenses more than you need reach. The 100-400.GM needs a full frame body to be worth the money and it's a much more specialized lens than the 70-200 gm II.
The lack of IBIS on the G100 is really painful.... but I will stand behind it 100% as a stills camera, it's a fantastic mini travel companion with the 14-140. If they released a G200 or whatever with the same body, updated sensor and IBIS I'd buy it in a heartbeat, Panasonic make some really neat PowerZoom lenses for video like the 45-175mm that work beautifully with Dual IS.
I will say though that M43 doesn't seem to make sense for wildlife, because once you have 400mm lens on there it's really not much lighter than lightweight APS-C or FF. I bought the Lumix G 100-400 and found it appalling to use, really strange and slow autofocus and not as sharp as it should have been given the sensor size....
Hey Kasey congrats on your recent engagement. Have you ever been tempted by the Sony Xperia 1 Mk IV or the Pro-1? As a street/urban shooter the wide angle lens, optical zoom and weather sealing are very tempting.
He already mentioned, he got the Huawei because of the fun slow motion capability. Those Xperia is no fun at all with meager 120/240 fps

Hi Casey, I had an opportunity to pounce on a Panasonic S5 with the 24-105 F4 for a little over $1,400 American… don’t ask me how… it’s complicated and possibly incriminating… Anyway, I pounced and I’m thinking about picking up one or two of the 1.8 Panasonic Prime lenses for talking head and vlogging with Toneh. I know I’m a moron for buying in… but would I benefit from the Primes or should I get a 3rd party lens with manual focus for talking head only? The vlogs would involve attending car events… I believe in the Pony… I’m sorry… I should go…
I’m a seasoned cinematographer, but sick of the focus not being on me - where it belongs. Can you recommend a vlogging camera that works well during walks to Starbucks and at the grocery store?
I think I may have made a mistake coming here. Every "review" or opinion video is about the vlogging capabilities of the equipment being discussed which always seems to come back to Olympus. Carry on as you must! I'll be floating around the UA-cams checking out photography since nobody wants to see my ugly old face on video! LOL!

I think you are quite friendly regarding the Canon RF 24 1.8 given the fact you are a critical lens snob. Others have more complaints than just "missing 3D pop but good for the price". Not sure this piece of plastic is worth more than 2/3 of the list price. But it doesn't change the fact I want one from the blowout sale in 2027.

a7c is just a cool looking photo camera which can take great video in controlled environment that's it. It is only made for people who probably already own a pro video camera and want something nicer looking and light for photo.
The a7c for me is the perfect camera for street photography and vintage lenses. I don't need video specs and my a7c still gets more use than my a7r4.
@@0action847 yeah, I can see that. For a light full frame set up you can't beat a7c. I have a friend who also uses a lot of vintage lenses on a7iii (just a bigger a7c) and love it. It is the future proofing for video that a7c lacks or else it is fine.
But the Action 2 is not out of focus like the 3 is. Never have had a go pro but looking at the 11 we shall see. I am just enjoying using the action 2 right now.
They are both the same out of focus, though apparently the new DJI has some buggy models.
@@cameraconspiracies Yeah but the 2 seems better than the 3 but not by much although does it really matter that much probably not. I actually like the two but only paid 287$ US for it. Never would have paid 519$ for it that is for sure. It is great for on the go vlogging especially with the cage I use with it. I can unplug the mic and just slip in my pocket when I need to. I hate that Go pro has not figured out the mic thing and you need the media mod to us an external mic. With a few simple adapters I can hook a mic to the two without it protruding out with it getting in the way or to complicated. I just need a better camera but with a small channel I just can't justify it yet. Also just not sure I want to drag around a huge camera all the time. I was thinking ZV-1 or ZV-E10 but the crappy stab just is not appealing.

@@cameraconspiracies I totally know that but from some of the reviews I have watched it does not seem the 2 has that much out of focus issue. I know of one creator who has sent the 3 back and is keeping the 2 because of that. I think as you stated in a few videos ago probably just wait for the action 4 and hope for better specs from DJI. Be honest I wish they would come out with a new camera mod for the two with a bigger sensor and fast charging. Not holding my breath as DJI has a bad habit of screwing up and then just abandon it for something new. The action 3 to me was an after thought by DJI. They put it out to compete with he go pro 11 and completely failed. I will stick with the 2 and the osmo action 1 for now.

Basically when the subject pops out in front of the background, and its a fact... simpler, less corrected lenses have a 3d pop, modern lenses barely have especially zooms

At 1000fps you don`t need stabilization! It will be smooth anyway.
10:30 that's not how Tony's work. The main difference is that you're standing further back on apsc to get the frame framing, so you're not getting the same amount of depth of field but you are getting the same amount of light coming in (roughly). Exposure shouldn't change much, it's about the the obliterated background which at 800mm shouldn't even be an issue

Seeing as I do not shoot video with my camera, I have what may be a stupid question or a smart question. Way back when I shot video with a Canon GL-2 video camera. It could not shoot in slow motion. However. I was able to do slow motion while editing in my Sony vegas software. Is there a reason people are obsessed with filming in slow motion and either can't or refuse to do it while editing? Can modern 4 k videos not be slowed in post? What am I missing here?
You're missing that slowing down regular footage to slow motion means extending the length of time each frame is shown. Depending on how much you slow the footage relative to the frame rate of your timeline, the slowed footage will look choppy. Maybe, very choppy.
The point of high frame rate video is that when slowed down to your timeline's frame rate, motion will look as smooth as in the regular footage.

@@Jgatti41 out of curiosity: what was the timeline FPS and how much did you slow the footage? I just watched some NFL highlights recorded in 60p and slowed it to 25% (15p). It looked terrible.

I want you to do a video of the Sony FX30… is just a Sony A6400 in steroids… 🤷🏻♂️ both do 6k oversample to 4k super35, both have the HLG and Slog picture profile, no internal RAW, just a few changes in color… but not worth $2000 in my opinion. With that money you buy two Sony A6400 and you can do professional work… Is not close to a Black Magic in the cinema line, is more close to a A6400… internet is full of propaganda of this camera….

I think you should check out the 100-400 GM. It's expensive yes. But it has a minimum focus distance of 98cm I think. Much more flexible than the 200-600 and smaller so you will actually consider using it more than that 200-600 beast

The Sony a7C is actually THE best FF camera that Sony makes. It's balanced with it's all features, has absolutely unbelievably good AF, is light, is more compact than just about any APSC, has killer build quality, awesome video capabilities, and if you want professional quality gimbal like stabilization, use catalyst browser, which is UNMATCHED BY ANY OTHER MIRRORLESS CAMERA. Who gives a f..k it's just 8bit or takes an hour or two to render? Don't you have other things to do in your life? Go take a leak, a long one.. or go for a walk outside or to the gym, and when you're back, it's done. And as for "telephoto" lenses, just shoot in Super35 crop mode and now you just need lenses that are half the size and reach for the same purpose, problem solved. Unless you do hollywood level color grading, 8bit FF eats anything 10bit APS-C in overall IQ. Yes the slow-mo is limited and just 1080p (though very good quality). And? Slow it down in post and rejoice a FF camera that is smaller, cheaper and with better IQ than the new "high-end" APSCs and Fuji crap with 90% of all the features you need and even some done better than just about any other gear. For me is size vs IQ vs features vs practicality vs price. I don't even know where is the doubt here. Perfect camera? No. Super cool camera for what it is and just about everything it does amazingly well for the price it is and the bulk it bills? You bet'cha.
No (real) viewfinder, no 10bit (big deal, sorry), no 4k60, 4k30 with crop......expensive af for what it offers (not much), get real.
I totally agree with you. I have A7C and love it, but it would be nice to have 60fps 4K and 10bit just in case. Maybe they will add it in the next version...
I've gotten real long time ago and works for me. That's my reality.. you have different reality that works better for you, by all means. There a million other cameras that surely will suit your needs better and give you better Hollywood like results for your gigantic screen blockbusters. For the 99.99% of everyone else that uses this camera, it's already an overkill as is just about everything else out on the market today and that keeps coming more and more in troves that people think is the solution for they pathetically useless content while manufacturers cash on it. That's the actually "reality" :)

I shot video on the Sony a7C for a year and I can confirm... the color sucks. Gross magenta skin tones.
Shot with a a6000 and a shitty neewer 35mm 1.4 toneh, ($50 on a budget) Lets just say wish me luck in life. No 3d pop.

The old one plus 7 pro dose 480p slow mo..no limit..GoPro slow mo is defective...the result plays at normal speed..no way to get slow mo out
That isn't a defect, it's a benefit. It records an actual 30p file with audio that you can slow down, or choose not to.

My man, you gotta stop calling high-speed framerates 'p' - p is used as an indicator if the footage is progressive or 'i' for interlaced, and for a long, long time, interlaced footage has not been a thing, but still standard framerate formats such as 23.976(KINO), 25(PAL) and 29.97(NTSC) have had the p suffix, but the standard today is to just indicate 'p' as pixels either in 1080p or 2160p and not framerates or progressive scanning of footage. I know Canon uses p in their camera menus for framerates but you cannot call 1080p 120fps "120p" framerates. You're basically saying the vertical resolution of a video is 120 pixels.
Thats why its called and written "1080p120", so resolution is 1920x1080 (1080), its progressive (p) and its 120 fps (120),...
This like comparing Zelinsky to Putin realizing they are. 💩
