  • Hey there. You may have noticed that we changed the name of the channel to The Ultralight Mindset. You'll still find tons of videos related to ultralight backpacking, hiking, and outdoor content, but also tips on living with less (ultralight) in your day to day life.
    Thanks for watching!
    I spent the last year putting the Columbia Silver Ridge Lite through the wringer. 346 miles of backpacking, 210 days of landscaping work, plus trail running and just hanging out. It has quickly become my favorite shirt for both work and all my backpacking trips. Check out the video for all the details. Happy Hiking

    I do not except money for positive reviews. I give my honest opinions good or bad for all pieces of gear with no exception. Occasionally I may do a "First Look" review of a NEW piece of gear, but I will always state that in the video.

    I have this shirt and overall like it. I will be bringing a white one for my fall Camino hike, for Sun protection. However, my main beef with this shirt is it does not dry out quickly in wet conditions. It does not dry out on body or off body very quickly in wet weather. I have some LLB shirts (Ridgerunner, I think) which dry out quickly on back quickly once in shelter, and on it's own. For east coast wetness I will be going back to these shirts for these features. Otherwise good shirt. Keep up your videos. Great job. BTW, I use the Kumo also and love it.

      Yea...I find that most shirts will not fully dry out in wet conditions, regardless of the fabric. I just put it back on in the morning and start walkin. Im either going to sweat and get it wet anyway, or the air is cool enough that my body heat will dry the shirt as I walk. Works for me. Thanks for the tip on the other shirts. Fyi, there are some great alternatives in the works. More ecofriendly than synthetics...👍

    Right after watching your video here, I found this interesting tidbit about the differences in material used on the plaid vs. solid colors of this shirt. I've only got plaid versions, so can't compare if there's a meaningful difference.
    Solid Silver Ridge Lite: Omni-Wick™ Ripstop 100% polyester
    Plaid Silver Ridge Lite: 100% Polyester
    Silver Ridge 2.0 Plaid: Omni-Wick™ Ripstop 100% polyester

    • @TheUltralightMindset
      @TheUltralightMindset  5 років тому +1

      Interesting...
      I have a solid CSRL also. I cant tell any difference in the fabric. I bought the Silver Ridge (not lite) first by accident. Very different shirt. I jave no experience with the 2.0
      I really want to move more in the direction of environmentally friendly gear whenever possible. Im looking into more sustainable clothing (not synthetic or at least less of it)
      Thanks for the info man...🤘

      I’m there with you. I’ve been thinking a lot about what might be involved in creating a cottage outdoors/backpacking company focused on durable and sustainable products. It might require sacrificing some grams, but getting back to having gear that lasts decades instead of years and made with natural materials.
      Maybe you were the one that turned me onto Appalachian Gear Company? That’s the direction!

      @@jpriddle Yea man. When you really start looking into all of the Fabrics used in outdoor performance gear it gets pretty sad real quick. All of the synthetic material used regardless of whether it is mostly recycled leeches plastic especially when it's washed. Plastic pollution is a huge problem and I think we're just touching the surface with the negative impact and education for the public. Just today I was surfing for a few hours with my son, I'm wearing synthetic board shorts, and suddenly it Dawns on me that my shorts are releasing plastic microfibers into the ocean. That sucks. So this afternoon I start looking into alternatives, natural cloth board shorts and such. Nada. Hardly anything out there. Crazy. We've been working on a graphic t-shirt launch but it's difficult to even find t-shirts that are not synthetic and will work for hiking. It's great to see others feel the same way. I'm going to keep on searching. And yes Appalachian Gear Company is awesome. Super Rad people, very knowledgeable, with excellent gear

    Seems like a great shirt. Does it come in solid colors?

    • @TheUltralightMindset
      @TheUltralightMindset  5 років тому

      Yes. Tons of solid colors. Great shirt. The only drawback is that it is made of Polyester. Performs Very well as I said, but more and more research is confirming that performance clothing is leaching plastic into our water and environment. Not Good. Unfortanatly there are few eco friendly alternatives that perform well, but they are out there. I'll have more info coming soon. For now its by far the best choice for a long sleeve, in my opinion.

      @@TheUltralightMindset U think it's from the backpack straps? Maybe they need to reinforce that area in the future.. How do the pit areas fit? I hate shirts that fit great except seem tight around the pits and cause rubbing..

    • @TheUltralightMindset
      @TheUltralightMindset  2 роки тому

      @@bradwjensen The shirt fits comfortably. Its a very lightweight shirt. Thats why it works so well in the heat. The shoulders wore out because I wore it day after day after day for months. Ive switched to a sun hoodie for the last few seasons though. The Patagonia Tropic 2 is my favorite. Comfortable, lightweight, built well, 100 percent recycled.
