I'm Vietnamese and this is too hard to accept, I know the price of shaving is too expensive even compared to Europe, shaving in Europe is not expensive like that, I really feel annoyed about this! Sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable with such unreasonable prices!
This place where you eat Bun Cha is very famous for the local people, the one you ate before in Hang Manh Str. just for the tourists or foreigners only.
Sorry to know you were ripped off. Overcharging could happen when you buy from street vendors, especially roaming vendors (on bicycles) and old people like this barber, they still keep the old mindsets of more than 30+ years ago, they think tourists are rich people and they don't know that their action could be filmed and broadcasted. It's a shame that there were a few cases like this happened recently, and all of them were old vendors, they really need some education.
1. Actually Vietnamese don't call it broth. It's nuoc mam (fish sauce). It's more like spice but in fluid form, give you a salty taste but rich in flavour. Depends on the dish they prepare it differently. 2. And yes, you paid too much for the shave. Normally it costs around 2 - 3 dollars for a haircut + a shave on the street. Vietnamese government is trying to eliminate this kind of problem but it still happens here and there. (You can actually report them if you want). If you plan to go south, problems like this is less likely to happen. And to prevent it, the best way is to ask for the price before buying anything. Hope this small problem don't ruin your mood for the trip.
Thanks for the info! I would normally ask the price before if I thought I might get a tourist price, but in 2 weeks in Hanoi this is the first person that overcharged me! Definitely hasn’t ruined my trip at all 🙂 Still here after over 3 weeks and still enjoying the country very much 🇻🇳

Yeah I will next time, but up until that point everyone in Vietnam had given me the “local” price so I became more trusting. Lesson learned!
