Whenever I land in Mangalore I have tears in my eyes. Fresh air, the smell of the land, sounds of nature. For me Mangalore is a heaven
Fresh air in Mangaluru?
You must be joking.
Fresh air is outside the city
He is talking about outskirts of city like mulky, karkala, mudbidre. @@astaroth282
@@astaroth282 absolutey! in managalore you can smell the dirty somke of MRPL! I live in outskirts of udupi. Atleast the air is clean here.
If you come from a bigger city and have spent your childhood in manglore or been there for summer vacations ,it is nostalgic.. and udupi, karkala are generally considered as manglore itself.
@@shreyas4980
No it is not considered Mangaluru, I see people from even Kundapura introduce themselves as they're from Mangaluru in B'lur & it is hilarious when I ask them what part of Kudla they're from & they get caught red handed & say they're actually from Byndoor or somewhere like that 🤣
Bird calls , the smell humid salty but crisp air, the russle of leaves , the sound of water trickling down a canal induced with chirpping of crickets , the view of green canvas, the taste of stolen mangos , sweat from every pore in the body .
My summer holidays at my home will stay with me to the grave.
My home , my Udupi.
Seems like evry Udupian and mangslorean know how to describe every bit in precise wow just like how Kripal sir does !
Btw m a Bangalorean 😊
This one was quite a different one. Kripal not discussing food, but reflecting on days of yore, of a happy childhood and of people no longer with us.
The setting is ideal too. A quaint town, small, cosy and full of memories.
Good one Kripal. We would certainly love more of this.
The story of Udupi is the story of Kerala
A slow, silent slipping away of vintage culture into the vast ocean of times gone by.
Kripal has gamely continued to relate his childhood days despite being choked by emotion.
God bless him and keep him.
You're tuluvas from Udupi😳😳
Now i can connect the dots, love for good food, blessed with good face, mumbai, multilingual, multicultural!!!
Kripal .. best video of urs till date .. this is because u just made us walk through udupi and its culture along with you .. streets were empty and u were walking alone but u were also walking with thousands of us immersed in the video or udupi .. thanks alot ❤
I am not from south canara but i kindaa have some sort of connections with south canara. I have many times travelled to mangalore and surroundings withiut any reason from Bangalore without anyone from my family knowing.
Udupi Mangaloreans who have left their roots r yearning back to reconnect more so in recent 5 to 10 years. Social media & movies like SHPS Kasaragodu ,Kantara , Ulidavaru Kandanthe , Ondhu motteya kathe , GGVV etc have caused a huge impact on the new gen
You have written so many movies...now will need to watch them
Kripal sir this is one of your best vlog in recent times. Thank you so much for taking us back to our childhood days. What a life that was. Today we have everything except innocent smile.
Love to our People from DK and Udupi from Coorg ❤
That view of the Mangalore tiled roofs, laterite walls, coconut n mango trees is sooo typically SK .truly nostalgic ❤ and those garish new buildings on the other side😢
This is what we want mate. your side of the story. your life. your journey. etc. Good to see this.
My home town. Born brought up studied and then migrated. Diana Udupi’s famous restaurant our every Sunday morning breakfast after mass. Puri baji. Cutlet dhai vada and then last the famous Gadbad Ice cream. Thanks Kripal for taking back our journey. Udupi las largely developed now. Many memories. ❤
Brought back memories of summer holidays spent at my grandpa's place in Bijapur. We had little, monetary wise but were happy, just to spend time with relatives and friends. Now have everything but those people are not here............
👍👌
So true! Sadly!
Kripal..not a single person come across during your nostalgic walk in the colony.. truly divine silence there❤
"Somewhere in this evolution from a large family to smaller, nuclear families, we've built walls that are too high to climb (over) or too wide for relationships to seep across, I think that's the tragic irony of life" - a very philosophical Kripal we see today, no doubt nostalgically softened by an unexpected return to his childhood days. Very touching. Hope we viewers get the message.
Don't give up whatever it might be now. Everybody suffer lots because of their own hometown tragic
Very well worded, Deepak
Wow🙌🏻Thank you for sharing!! This footage brought back so many memories and emotions ✨
So very well narrated, sir. Great to know you have your roots in the place where I come from. Loved the blog.
You passed by our house😊
I am from Karkala and I keep visiting my native whenever i find time off my work. I liked this vlog a lot as i could resonate many things in here. Thank you for this🙂👍
Oh so nostalgic. I studied in Christian High School and used to come from Tenkpete through Volakadu to school. We also used to stroll in Mission Compound to Bunts Hostel to Korankrapadi , Kolambe etc. of course Diana was in our DNA. thanks a lot for the sweet memories Kripal. Our Head master was also Ammanna and loved and revered by all. His wife maggy was my first teacher there.
1:00 to 1:30 memories are golden days we can't find in upcoming year's b'cse of high civilization
This is so nostalgic…I can imagine how it must have felt when you were younger. Am feeling so homesick in general.
Dear Kripal, I am from Udupi. Most people do not have any idea as to the importance of the Bassel mission church that you showed.
The church was built in 1850's.
Earlier, the Taluk headquarters of the present Udupi talk was located in the town of Kalliyanpur, about 7 Km north.
It was shifted over to Udupi in 1875 or 1876.
Kallyanpur, as you are aware, was a stronghold of catholics. Kallyanpur has two large catholic churches and the Milgris institutions.
The British, being protestants is one of the main reasons that they shifted the HQ from there to the protestant hub at Udupi.
This allowed Udupi to grow into the small city it is now.
Further, it became district HQ, when a revenue district was created.
Even this space was snapped by it from Kundapur. In the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, it was Kundapur that housed the Assistant district commissioner's office. Kundpur was the second most important seat of government administration of the undivided district.
Regards,
something new i learnt about my native
This vlog brought tears to my eyes. Reminded me of my childhood..going to Diana was such a treat.A walk down memory lane truly. 😢
Feel like visiting udupi after seeing your vlog. Simple yet an interesting vlog.
Loved this video, as a student in Manipal, a visit to Diana was always special..great video sir. One of the best I have seen till date.
I was really touched by this video. Old memories of my stay in Namma Mangalore. Missing Namma Mangalore a lot
Had some good old friends Clearance and Roland in Mission Compound where we used to play cricket Some moved away and some withered away. But memories remain.
Nostalgia❤
"Generations that come are not too emotional about these" that's so true Sir❣️
Nostalgic. I am a big fan of coastal karnataka. Luv its food and culture.
This was one touching episode, Kripal. The "letting go" thing. It is such a loaded thing. No two people see it the same way. Looking forward to more!
Living now abroad but udipi has and always been my origin my roots ,this is were my journey (ancestors) started still miss those old times.❤
Kripal, for me this your best vlog till date. Most of us can connect to the video.
Kripal Anna Thank you for taking me on the lanes.I am able to connect and feel it because I too have my roots near to Mangalore and Udupi.
I remember the first time I looked up my grandparent's old house ( 🇸🇬 )on Google Maps. It was a trip down memory lane as I saw the familiar exterior that hadn't changed much since my dad sold it nearly two decades ago. It was like stepping back in time as I virtually revisited the neighbourhood where I grew up. Thank you, Amigo, for sharing your heartfelt childhood story and taking us on a virtual journey through your old neighbourhood. There's something special about strolling through the streets of your childhood, reminiscing about the good times and feeling a wave of nostalgia wash over you. Take care, stay safe and happy!
True, there's something special and deep about visiting one's roots. Glad you enjoyed this watch.
Very emotional video 😊 . Though I am not from DK, i could relate to the childhood memories and nostalgia that you mentioned after shifting from a silent locality at Malleswaram where I spent all my childhood.
The moment we cross Shiradi Ghat.. Everything changes. Homecoming is an unexplainable joyful feeling. I would have to cross 8 different rivers on road before I reach my house in one of the river islands in Udupi. Udupi and Mangalore are urbanising very fast but they still retain that old world charm to certain extent. Thank you for this video
Nice vlog! Great presentation as always. Greetings from Plano, Texas, United States. Those houses with Mangaluru tiles look beautiful. I think they hardly make such beautiful houses
Dear Kripal sir , one gets filled with nostalgia and old memories when he visits the area of old house of his childhood where his grandparents used to live . Everywhere things have changed from new building design to new neighbours . Its you who have become an outsider . All across India the same story .
Kripal thanks for sharing this Vlog, Memories right, The Old South Kanara, families, relatives laterite walls, the mango tree, the city bus , fisherwomen Ice candy, Joint families, the goli soda, just memories, thank you for the walk around Mission compound ajjarkad, Diana ....Its memories only
Always relished those moments in Diana when I was doing my PU in MGM college.
Their poor korma was excellent those days. 1972.
All those goodies in their store was part of our lives.
Opposite the stadium, the apartment is called a sairadha enclave, I stayed there, It is one of the best parts of my life.
My hometown...Thanks for showing!
nice video sir...I also did a similar walk down memory lane at Moodubelle Udupi last week..
Perhaps same feeling expressed in the last few minutes is with anyone who is watching or have watched this episode. The new generation has not seen joint families and the big houses with very few amenities but lots of joy, hence they do not feel the same as we do.
True.
I resonate with this vlog. Just proud of where we come from. The people, the food, the culture and just that feeling of home. Get that nowhere else but namma ooru.
Good luck to you 😢
Nostalgic , so true .
I love Mangalore and Udupi region because my mom worked in Viaya Bank for 35 years and all her friends were from Mangalore region and she spoke fluent Tulu and used to speak a lot about Mangalore. My fathers best friend was from Balmatta road, Mangalore. FIst time I visited Mangalore was in 2008 and I keep going there just for fun. I love Mgalore so much
Absolutely nostalgic, I studied there and good to see this place. At that point Diana used to be near Diana circle
wonderful memories. Nice video. Thanks BB
Wow....namma Udupiya Diana, Ajjarkaad ❤❤
Even now whenever we visit Udupi without fail go to Diana to eat Cutlet and gadbad. Without that we feel our trip is incomplete 😊
Thank you ❤❤
You are welcome! I understand the emotion! 🙂
I am from Bantwal and staying in Karkala Udupi district. Costal Karnataka is my heart
Such a nostalgic feeling 😊😊😊
Wow. This was touching. The house right in front of the church is were my grandfather lives.
What beautiful memories of days gone by .
Hi Kripal, I just stumbelled upon this blog while scrolling through YT and it made my day! The way you have explained each aspects of these lanes, houses and its people. While you mentioned about your memories from the past, I too felt connected to your experiences. Fantastic blog, keep going. Thank you!
Very nostalgic for you.. Good place calm and quiet🌳🌴🍀🌿☘️
Kripal sir thank you for this vlog. More of these please
One of the best vlogs , going through memory lanes triggering philosophy
Hi Kripal
We live our memories of Udupi through your vlogs, many thanks.
OMGgggggggggggggg...the roots are FINALLY revealed!!🥺🫀💝
Loved loved loved this. ❤
Dear Kripal, Thanks for the video, I had no clue you were from Udupi. I was born in Udupi but the family moved out. Our ancestral house is still there next to the old municipal office. Every summer the family would unite in Udupi and a visit to the old Diana and Malpe beach was customary. I now have an apartment near Chandu Maidan, just where you were roaming about. My mon stays there periodically and I visit Udupi at least once a year and walk the streets you were walking in. What a lovely town a complete opposite of Bangalore where I am now in. The Christmas lighting in December at the church you showed in the video is my favorite.
Yes, Udupi is where my Dad hailed from. Thank you for sharing your memories, those family get-togethers must have been beautiful.
@@KripalAmannaVlogs You bet, I still long for those days, but I am perhaps the last generation to have this privilege, feel sad for today's youth.
Nostalgic❤❤
You evoke nostalgia with your presentation of your hometown, Udupi, and will then take us to London to experience its affluent lifestyle. As the saying goes, one must have deep roots and strong wings.
🙏🙏
Good to know your from Udupi. I am also from Udupi
What a lovely nostalgic vlog...
Whenever you go back to your roots...that emotion is just amazing....such a sinple life with no complications like now....❤❤❤
A walk down memory lane for me too. Thanks much
Thank you for taking us on this wonderful journey. The natural view of streets, cicadas, birds and foliage all tell us about the simpler times. 🙏
Nostalgia moments to cherish every person who were in udupi ,the tiles on the roof on houses were majestic architecture wonder, now in Metro's it has become highly sought for fashionable appearance Well last but not the least Diana is a household name and Kripal Sir touch gives more shining as Diamonds 👍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Nice to see your sweet memories of ur earlier days
Beautiful video.... living in big cities only for the last 35 years, tired of over crowded places, traffic and seeing garbage throwing every where. This place looks heaven for me
A really good vlog, hope for a few more in the same direction
Welcome to my hometown! Just one word ‘Thankyou’ for this vlog🙏
Kripal, what a lovely, character-filled place to remember. I kept hoping some old person would call out to you and begin telling you about "how it used to be" Are we free to anticipate more of such tours?
Interesting video Kripal. An emotional one I would say. I hope you found what you are looking for in those old tiny woody lanes.
Sir I love your episodes - calms me down from my anxiety- especially your articulated narration, help us understand to peace in life - discussions on financial and past business relationships - just to know you better, continue creating.
I am happy these vlogs connect with you. Take care.
Very nice and different captures and emotional descriptions of old memories lane of native city.

Superb superb vlog sir. You are speak so so well expressing emotions in an organic way fabulous
A walk in the old park, bringing out wonderful beautiful memories of individual good old days that reflects an complete generation of people and culture, once in a while when I walk in the old streets of malleshwaram or Rajajinagar, i wonder myself about how far we have come and how we are, it's saddening at times, but as said it's change that is constant, thank you sir for good old days of past, which made me to dive in past, always wondered why past brings smile on our faces, is it time or is it the whole environment, thanks again sir, let's open up our past to cherish some.
This is so beautiful, I can relate to this so much
Happy days indeed. How can we forget Hotel Diana? The first time we had Gadbad was when our Uncle Prakash took us cousins there in 1971.
This vlog is one of your best . Loved upudi and the way detailed it with your thoughts WHAT CAN I SAY....just keep doing such work.Kudos!
Though I am from Kerala I was born and brought up in Mlore.Great place .Nice and easy going people. The blog brings back nostalgic memories abt St.Aloysious College , Church in the College Gardens , the Mosque just outside the gate of the college, Tagore park, Gadbad icecream from Ideal , Jyothi talkies.....At the end day the positve memories are that remains as a take away
There is no feeling anywhere in the world like my hometown udupi ❤ Fresh air and top hygienic food. The laid back vibe
Nostalgia!! Mouthwatering Diana's cutlet and gadbad.
Hi Kripal,
I was surprised to learn from your vlog that we share a common heritage from the Udupi Basel Mission Church!
We've connected on UA-cam several times in the past through the comments section.
It's been over 5 years since I last visited India, so thank you for taking me on a walk through our hometown streets - it's a journey I've been longing to take again.
Hi Rohan, happy to learn of your connect to Udupi Mission compound too. Glad you enjoyed this walk with me.
Hi Kripal Amana ji
Such a nice blog. Far removed from the usual food review blog ( which has established a benchmark in the plethora of food blogs domain ) . Your short walk was indeed a walk down memory lane ( the by lanes and small narrow lanes moth withstanding ) . For me it was a unique blog and will appeal to anybody who attaches importance to nature , the evolving times , the concept of joint family systems of the years gone by or the times of our grand parents when that era was truly grand , to the present era of nuclear families, as rightly mentioned by you .
Nevertheless, to a non believer of fine culture this blog maybe not much , but to some like me at least, it was a fine experience.
About Udupi itself - during my younger days I used to visit Udupi often and would visit Diana religiously for their veg Cutlets and Gadbad ice cream. So also Mitra Samaj for snacks and meals ( they had two separate hotels for each opposite to each other. Their Vada, Goli bhaje and Tuppa Dose was marvellous ( Tuppa dose in Mangalore’s Taj Mahal is numerous uno ). In the evenings there was a small shop offering ‘ Podi ‘ ( what we call as bajji ) - mensu, baale kaayi , Gulla ( local brinjal - a delicacy by itself and fanass ) .
I too feel like visiting Udupi again and walk down memory lane and eat the items the taste of which is still in my memory .
Thanks sir for the nice experience.
Very nice Kripaal.
