Absolutely. Jury is still out on HOW good the trade will be for them (i.e. depends on what they'll get for Jrue)... but the package POR got was much better than what MIA would've been able to give them. They did as well as they could, for sure.
Miami reportedly offered way more picks with herro and a young prospect on the team. They could’ve still got ayton and more pics if they traded w Miami

Dame just had his best season. I think he should have garnered more value. Look at how much Utah got for Gobert just last offseason. But there were a few factors that suppressed Dame's trade value. The main one was that his agent purposefully tanked his value with all that "Dame won't show up to training camp" nonsense. I think it was total BS, but I'm sure it made some teams hesitant. The second thing is that, for one reason or another, the teams with the best assets didn't get involved. Utah, OKC, and New Orleans all easily could have beaten Milwaukee's or Miami's package and STILL fielded a contender. But they either felt they were too early in the process (Utah) or believe in their current roster and want to see it out for at least another season (OKC and New Orleans). I think it was a big mistake on New Orleans' part not to make an offer, but the fact is that they didn't.
And its my personal opinion you are trolling and being dismissive of Dames greatness in that comment. Dame could have got more but they didnt wanna reward MIA or send him a place he didnt wanna go. Miami offered their trash and then said they wanted portland to tell them what they wanted so they can meet in the middle , so portland said Bam or jimmy. Miami never came back with the middle offer.
This was a good trade imo, they got draft compensations and also got DeAndre Ayton, who is under contract for 3-4 more years. Plus they got a good young core in Shadeon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant and now Ayton. Gonna be a fun team to watch and they aren’t even done since they will trade Jrue Holiday
Shorting Milwaukee's future is a better gamble than shorting Miami's future, imo. Miami has a long record of competence throughout this century. Yes, their players are old. But so are Milwaukee's. It's fairly likely that Lillard, Lopez, and Middleton will all be retired by 2029. That leaves you with a 34-year-old Giannis and no draft capital to rebuild the team around him. And since Giannis is not a shooter and relies so much on his athleticism, I'm not sure we can say for sure that he's going to age gracefully. I trust Miami more to replenish their cupboard. They've proven to be excellent at finding talent outside the lottery and developing it. Plus, Miami is a free agent destination in a way that Milwaukee will never be. Lastly, Miami has possibly the best coach in the entire league. We know Spoelstra can get the most out of his talent. Adrian Griffin may be a great coach for all I know, but there's more uncertainty with him.
Jrue Holiday is worth way more then a heavily protected 1st round pick? Starting offers will be 2 FRPs and due to the market demand…could be non protected FRPs…
Honestly I feel like this going to be looked back on as one of the most fair trades in NBA history. Wouldn’t Tyler have been able to garner at least one first round pick (at least reports from the Pacers suggest this)? There’s also rumors that there would have been a multi trade deal involving the suns which would’ve landed Ayton in Portland either way so I don’t think the Bucks package would’ve been any better than that one.
Danny Ainge really wanted Herro too, also the Nets were interested. The key thing here is Cronin would not trade Dame to MIA due to his feelings being hurt by how it was handled (by Dame's manager). Heat did not stand a chance.
Wth, I mean Jrue was worth 4 1st round picks + 2 swaps few years ago. He still worth a whole lot more than a single late 1st round for a contender squad imo
Most likely the 3rd 1st round pick that Woj was referring to was a 1st from another team. I don't think that the Heat would have negotiated the protections with OKC. It probably would have been something like a lottery protected 1st from Utah, 2028 MIA 1st, and a 2030 MIA 1st. Also, Jrue Holiday is already reported to be going for two 1st rounders already...

As a Blazers fan I love this trade I think the biggest losers in this trade are the Suns. The timeline for the blazers is much better now. I could see them being a 40+ win team. It all depends on how big a leap Simons takes and how well scoot plays this year
Bucks are saying Portland cos they basically turned Grayson Allen and Holiday into Dame🤔 Suns had a distressed asset in Ayton and would have moved him for a bag of chips.
The Blazers wanted to get rid of Nurk and his contract. Little is the only extra loss from this deal, and I feel like he was always more valuable as a trade piece to sweeten a deal.
That’s insane to assume that Miami put everything on the table when there’s plenty of evidence to the contrary. And Jrue Holiday being of equivalent value to a super late 2024 Heat pick is so far off the mark. Such a bad take in so many ways.
Willing to offer and actual offer are two things. From the reports I heard the best offer on the table from the heat was Hero and two 1st Rnd picks. Definitely not going to get it done.
I think this is the "best package they were going to get" in the context of Dame sabotaging his trade value with a lot of help from the Heat. In other circumstances, they would have gotten multiple unprotected firsts for Lillard.
What they actually got from the Bucks was 1 pick, Jrue, and Grayson Allen. I highly doubt the Suns value a guy like Grayson Allen more than a guy like Caleb Martin so the Suns deal was going to be on the table either way. The way you broke down the trade doesn’t make too much sense
Neither of your comments on this video make sense. You might need to reread the trade details, because it doesn’t seem like you know where each asset ended up.
@@gideonwall4303No, OP is correct. Getting Ayton is not exclusive to the Milwaukee trade. Miami could have facilitated that Ayton to Portland trade just as easily as Milwaukee did. Replace Grayson Allen with Caleb Martin or Duncan Robinson and the trade works just as well. So, it makes no sense to evaluate the Ayton portion of the trade.
@@23TDJbut they didn't, did they? So in that case it's pat rileys fault because he didn't get the suns in the deal aswell. Not Cronin being petty or anything.
@jimboylen8386 No one said Cronin was being petty. It just makes no sense when evaluating the trade because what they got from Milwaukee isn't Ayton but Grayson and Jrue, then they leveraged Grayson to get Ayton. The only objective way to compare the trade packages is to look at what they got from Milwaukee, not the side trade.
@@23TDJ you look at it wrong, miamis potential 3 team trade wasn't as compelling as Milwaukees. Portland only cares about what they give up VS what they get. And if you look at it that way Milwaukees package is better. Portland could not care less about from where the assets come as long as they come.
They can get close to the Miami package for Jrue alone. Of course it was worth it. The funniest thing is if they can get draft assets and Harden for Jrue and young player and assets from the Clippers for Harden.
Well, if Dame's agent hadn't made it public "He wont like playing in Toronto, I think that ultimately made it so that Toronto was never going to be comfortable with including 1 of the core 3 pieces (GTJ is not one of those, but close) IF the agent had said nothing from the start, and not pigeon-holed Portland into a miami or bust situation. I'm sure Toronto may have offered a much better package... To me OG Gradey Dick Precious Achiuwa Chris Boucher + 3 1sts is a much better haul than both the packages. But because the agent was trying to do everything in his power to get him to Miami that made Toronto hesitant and unwilling to make one of their better offers
The thing is that Ayton would have gone to Milwaukee either way. If you send Highsmith or Caleb to the Suns along with Nurkic you can keep the pick, keep Jovic, and still get Ayton. Also why didn’t Portland try to get Marjon, the actually young player with elite upside
To me, the reason Dame requested a trade was when the Blazers actually went through with drafting Scoot Henderson instead of trading him to another team.
We will get some pieces for jru. Ayton will have a larger role. And Dame got traded to a contender. Love that man for an excellent decade in RIP city. Happy for him. Lets go Scoot.
Mdj im sorry, but you're objectively missing facts. There were multiple rumors and reports of 4 team trade framworks that had that same package going to POR from MIA and deandre ayton with the 4th team givng role players to phoenix and taking on tyler herro. Nobody is talking about those though. Cronin did not want to deal with miami.
He just omitted what Miami would get for Herro. Herro would get more than an expiring contract. Herro who is 23 with multiple years on his contract would fetch about the same as Holiday so 1 to 2 1st rders and an expiring contract.
This trade is medicore at best and bad at worst unless they get something incredible for Jrue and the way MDJ evaluated it made no sense. 1. Ayton is not exclusive to the Milwaukee trade - Miami could have thrown in a role player to help facilitate that trade as well so it makes no sense to include Ayton. Imagine Miami throws in Ducan Robinson or Caleb Martin or Hightower instead of it being Grayson. The trade works just as well, so either include Ayton on the Miami side as well or just take Ayton out the equation. 2. He said they trade Herro to a 3rd team and never said what they get back for him. Unless, he's implying Miami just swaps Herro for an expiring contract. Miami would get way more than an expiring contract for Herro - he has multiple years, avg 20, and he's only 23. 3. Jrue Holiday would fetch more than 1 1st rd pick. He's going to bring in 2-3 or 1 and a solid young player. MDJ needs to reevaluate this trade.
herro doesn't provide much else from scoring. he's closer to a sg than a pg. he can't really play make and has limited vision. Plus his negative wingspan hurts him on defence, which he's already not super engaged from the beginning
Dude you do this for a living. The blazers got Ayton for Nurkic and Grayson Allen. They could've still gotten Ayton in a trade with Miami pretty easily
Yes, they did. Since they're not going to put in actual effort to try to put a winning team around Dame, they made the right decision by starting to rebuild for the future. Because let's be honest, Ayton and Jrue Holiday aren't going to push the needle when it comes to winning
I'm sorry but the blazers got robbed. They traded the greatest player they've had this century for jrue holiday, deandre ayton, and a draft pick thats still a freshman in high school
As a non-Heat fan with no stakes in Dame's destination, I always thought the Heat had an underwhelming trade package. They also just got 2 other firsts, mark Williams (worth at least a first) and brogden (will trade him for like another first probably)
My guess is at least 2 1sts and a good young player for Jrue and depending on the player this Blazers might even be a playoff team
You were basically, but they also got brogden
@kennethhanes5702 That's good deal. Now let's see what they flip Brogdon for 😆
Jrue for Lowry, jovic, 2024,2026 and 2nds or a swap is fair value
Miami is not doing that deal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Kosher93 Miami would do that deal in a heart beat. Late firsts have little value. You got no basketball iq. Lowry expiring. 2024 will be pick 25 or later, 2026 most likely same. Jovic was a late first, didn’t do anything. Jrue top 10pg, all defensive team guard. Not getting him for less than that. Those firsts bucks gave up with jrue for dame have potential to be top 5 picks. High potential
@@jacobwood6913 if you think Miami does that deal then you just haven’t been paying attention lol
@@Kosher93 they’d be smart to. They aren’t really giving anything up that’s worth much to get an all star player. Giving up picks for Lillard wasn’t a problem. It was that they didn’t have an all star caliber player or anyone that fit the team
@@jacobwood6913 the Heat very rarely trade firsts for non perennial all stars. They are cheap and mostly want to do deals at discounts. Local beat writers have already reported they have not inquired about Jrue and don’t seem inclined to do so. Especially considering they don’t have a good relationship with Cronin.
I don't think it was 3 MIA 1st round picks, it was two plus one more from whoever took Herro
Good to see you back talking about the NBA. I watched your stuff years ago.
But they also traded away Nurkic (starting center) Little (rotation wing )and Keon Johnson (3rd stringer at best)
The Blazers wanted to get rid of Nurk and his contract. Little is the only extra loss from this deal, and I feel like he was always more valuable as a trade piece to sweeten a deal.
Yes everyone won in this trade. Never seen a big trade happened and everyone wins
No . The trade is not for rebuild. Now we will see when gametime starts.
That’s insane to assume that Miami put everything on the table when there’s plenty of evidence to the contrary. And Jrue Holiday being of equivalent value to a super late 2024 Heat pick is so far off the mark. Such a bad take in so many ways.
Good job Portland 🎉
Did Brett make your thumbnail? 😂😂 good vid
YES
gotta steal from the best!
Jrue was always going to be worth more than what yo said
Willing to offer and actual offer are two things. From the reports I heard the best offer on the table from the heat was Hero and two 1st Rnd picks. Definitely not going to get it done.
I agree with you but you’re not giving Nurkic the value he deserves. Him alone is worth around a first rounder.
I think Greg Oden jr will be good for the Blazers .
Great post. Thank you. Also Please close your closet door.
I think this is the "best package they were going to get" in the context of Dame sabotaging his trade value with a lot of help from the Heat. In other circumstances, they would have gotten multiple unprotected firsts for Lillard.
The will get multiple unprotected picks.
They didn’t do they’re research on Tyler Herro and Jovic is going to be a star and they would’ve been way better than 15-39
who tf is nikola jovic?!
Ayton isn't that great. Guy just doesn't have that drive to get rebounds, and his development of his offense game hasn't happened.
I wish the heat will trade for jrue for Kyle Lowry and 2024 1st lol
They can get close to the Miami package for Jrue alone. Of course it was worth it. The funniest thing is if they can get draft assets and Harden for Jrue and young player and assets from the Clippers for Harden.
Celtics just traded for Holiday
The Blazers were gonna resign Grant no matter what
15-39
RIP CITY!!!!!!!!!!
So Ayton with good players is bad so with bad players he's gonna look 👍 😅
No they did not. Jaime, jovic, Caleb + 2-3 FRP is a way better package
Not even close and that’s what’s offered from what I’ve seen.
We got back a head case
NO ONE GOOD TO DRAFT
Well, if Dame's agent hadn't made it public "He wont like playing in Toronto, I think that ultimately made it so that Toronto was never going to be comfortable with including 1 of the core 3 pieces (GTJ is not one of those, but close) IF the agent had said nothing from the start, and not pigeon-holed Portland into a miami or bust situation. I'm sure Toronto may have offered a much better package...
To me
OG
Gradey Dick
Precious Achiuwa
Chris Boucher
+ 3 1sts
is a much better haul than both the packages.
Portland won for sure and your breakdown of the Miami picks is beyond inaccurate.
watch how deandre aytons game falll offf big time........... remember how cp3s centers drastically increase their stats.
They also gave away little and nurkic. Kinda not that great of a trade
He just omitted what Miami would get for Herro. Herro would get more than an expiring contract. Herro who is 23 with multiple years on his contract would fetch about the same as Holiday so 1 to 2 1st rders and an expiring contract.
Hi
Bro is still living in 2023💀💀
the heat package was better... Cronin traded Dame to milwaukee, seemingly out of spite.
False
I'm sorry but the blazers got robbed. They traded the greatest player they've had this century for jrue holiday, deandre ayton, and a draft pick thats still a freshman in high school
Ayton is useless when it matters the most.
Portland needs regular season players for now.
It was motivated by spite imo
Ayton is going to disappoint a lot of you guys, I had to watch the guy for 5 seasons. Enjoy
ayton and scoot will be great. dame can’t win anything without another superstar so milwaukee was perfect for him.
Ima heat fan and it really feels like Portland for some reason tried to spite the heat cause they accepted way less than everyone anticipated
So you're biased and your letting your bias influence what you feel for no logical reason. Got it.
As a non-Heat fan with no stakes in Dame's destination, I always thought the Heat had an underwhelming trade package. Dame to the Pels or Celtics seemed way better for the Blazers and I don't know why everyone was so convinced that they would just cave in and trade him to Miami when they had plenty of time to mull it over.
