I have a C100-Mk2, but still want a better/brighter monitor. This may do it.
I know the monitor will flip the image in self mode, but will it also flip it like you are looking into a mirror so that everything isn’t backwards when you try to do stuff with your hands? Thanks.
This is a waste of time on the Canon 80D, especially regarding video recording. 1) The 80D touch screen switches off the moment a HDMI cable is plugged into it. Gone is touch control of many important functions, including touch screen focusing and those nice focus pulls. This completely defeats any advantages the 80D has over other DSLRs in video capture. 2) It appears the mini HDMI input connection on the 80D is EXTREMELY unreliable and cuts in and out constantly. In fact it mostly cuts out until you jiggle the cable. I can’t apportion the blame specifically to either SmallHD or Canon but this is totally unacceptable, especially when consistency and reliability are paramount in a professional context. This was a big disappointment as I wanted to utilize a good external monitor with the 80D for use in video. In the end any pros were outweighed by cons and it is much easier to simply use the tiny native 80D screen and at least retain its ease of use, functionality and reliability. I use the 80D for B-roll capture to my Canon C100 MkII. This unsuccessful attempt to use this monitor with the 80D has made me realize the inherent advantages of a dedicated pro video camera, such as the C100. Any monitor plugged into the C100 works as expected. Everything just works.
I was amazed at the SmallHD monitor ... not at its quality ... but at it's price. A Ninja V recorder is on my Christmas list. It's only about 100 bucks more than the SmallHD

I like how clean this monitor looks (design-wise). With any luck might pick one up today.
Is there anyway at all to download 3rd party apps on these? I would think probably not or else tons of people would be doing what I want to do which is to be able to use it with my p4p or inspire remote but doubt I can run DJI Go app but figured it's worth asking around.
I have sony and at times it's hard to see what the final footage will look like. Especially in broad daylight. Will getting this monitor truly help produce better quality video and is it a good use of spending money in the long run for someone who does paid videography ? I'm trying to see if it's actually worth the 600 bucks(sony bundle).

Is there any way you could make an overheating test with this monitor and the Sony a6500? I just wanted to know if the camera overheats and if it improved. If you just let me know I would appreciate it. I can't find any videos on this.

Have you actually tried creating and installing a calibration lut? I'm having trouble.

Thanks! I don't get the green on my screen, I think sometimes that happens early after an upload. Hopefully its not an issue for everyone, if it seems like it is I can try to reupload the video.

Does the auto focus on the a6500 work while the monitor is on?

+Vitaly Fedorov I think 7" is a better size overall but if portability is important the 5" works really well.
can you attach a microfon like the rode videomicro, while you have the monitor attached, aswell?
Yes you can
The monitor uses NPF batteries not LPF batteries.
Hey man I got the same monitor with Sony 6300mah batteries. How much time does it give you while shooting 4K ? I find the time much less than the 2.5-3 hours that smallhd claims
I have been getting about 2-3 hours on mine.

Thanks for the video - what about the weak mini hdmi connection - is there a cage with some kind of lock to help that.
I do think the HDMI connection to the camera is the weak point, a cage is helpful but makes the setup a big larger.
You can get a SmallRig cage for the monitor and they offer an HDMI cable clamp for the cage.
when you shooting at 120p can i see it at the monitoe, because i saw that cannot support up to 60p.thanks!and also the peaking is more reliable from sony or from smallhd?

I know you asked this a while ago, but I found the peaking from sony sucks. Was trying it out yesterday... would show a person in focus....then when I zoomed to infinity, it would still show the person + everything in the background as in focus. Playing the video back on a large monitor, and could see the person was totally out of focus (couldn't tell while recording as it made the whole face red (my chosen colour) rather than outlining them in red. (Not sure if I need to put the level up/down?)
What lens are you using on the a6500?

if youre using the dummy battery does that mean the sony will always have to have the battery door open?
The Sony Alpha series cameras have a little teeny door on the battery door that you can feed the dummy battery cable through when the battery door is closed.
When you record in 4K, does the monitor turn off, or does it still record? Having trouble with my other external and thought about switching
Yes it stays on when recording in 4k

how is this better than the cheaper Atamos or Blackmagic units that are both cheaper and also record 10bit uncompressed?
