I always appreciate how you aren't afraid to express an unpopular opinion. I love hearing your honest thoughts.
Swarm was a trip, it was insane, disturbing and we'll worth a watch.
Haven't seen it but megan movie was good in my opinion 😊
@@mikesilva3868 Well if you thought Megan was good,, Wait till u see Swarm my dude
It was! Went in expecting to watch an episode or two and ended up watching 5 episodes and watching the last 2 the next day lol.
Yeaaa! I was waiting. So happy to get some recommendations!
Swarm was really good and it was definitely a deep dive into how the subconscious mind can seriously create how we go about the world as we get older.
Sounds like the matrix movies 😊
TBH it's reality, people out there are so obsessed over artists hardly know and create these fantasies. It's crazy.
Swarm was sooooo good, unlike anything else I have seen recently. Really enjoyed the change in pace in the second to last episode, took me by surprise.
Swarm got on my NERVES! Though it's cool to see that swarm refers to how bees will swarm to protect the "Queen Bee".
Yessss! Me too
It got on my nerves but in the best way😂😂
Women Talking was one of the most powerful movies I have seen. The acting was superb. I highly recommend it.
👏🏼
Hard Candy - what a fantastic film. Ive seen it so many times, quite brilliant - particularly given the small cast and limited setting.
Finally watched it in the last month and Wow! Great performances!
Love your wrap up videos!
I’ve really been enjoying Yellowjackets this month! Binged it so quickly
I need to catch up on this and on You !
The first season or the new season
@@bethpent8851 both! I didn’t even know it was a thing until I saw the advert on tiktok, it’s so good!
Finally able to watch your videos again!! I totally respect your opinions on TLOU being biased because of TWD hahahah. Also really excited to watch Swarm now.
Not since the wizard movie from 1989 have I been dying to see swarm 😊
The Last Of Us Episode #3 is one of THE BEST episodes of Television I have ever seen - Bring on all the Awards - Never seen the game but thought the entire series was Fantastic !! Bring on season #2
Swarm is my favorite tv watching experience since Brand New Cherry Flavor!
I loved Brand New Cherry Flavor. What a ride!
Welcome back Emma!! Great list as always. I was on the fence about Swarm but you sold me.
Swarm was crazy good, I kinda felt bad for Dre in the beginning but she's soo unhinged so I changed my mind real quick, she was a really good and terrifying character 😅
As a big Last Of Us game fan the show was surprisingly good, excited to see what they do with Part 2 because it's a little more.. controversial... another fun video Emma 🖤
Ooooo you have me intrigued love that!
have you seen the series From? the second season comes out this month and I really enjoyed the first season but haven’t really seen people talk about it.
On board with you about The Last of Us. The words zombie and apocalyptic is the most worn out trope on every streaming platform in the thriller genre. I thought Spoonful of Sugar was wonderful.. better than most things ive seen on Shudder lately. Will definitely check out Swarm!
I checked out swarm and kinda wish the fake true crime doc wasnt there although i was fooled at first..i couldve done without the break in storyline
You were the first to put Swarm on my radar and I loved it so much I watched it twice aside from recommending it to friends.
Your letterboxd lists have basically become my tv guide at this point lol. Found so many gems through these videos
I absolutely loved The Last of Us but I’m so damaged from The Walking Dead too😂😂 I was expecting swarms of those zombies just like in twd and I wasn’t expecting it to be so slow paced. I’m still into zombies after all these years 😂
I've been dying to hear people talk about SWARM!!!
The intro is so well made 🎉
We actually have Mennonite communities in rural areas in Canada. The Wikipedia entry for ‘Women Talking’ includes the following:
“Toews describes her novel as "an imagined response to real events," the gas-facilitated rapes took place on the Manitoba Colony, a remote and isolated Mennonite community in Bolivia: Between 2005 and 2009, over a hundred girls and women in the colony woke up to discover that they had been raped in their sleep.”.
i have the same feeling as you about the walking dead. justice for Glen
🥲🥲🥲
Maggie is now going to New York with Neegan in a new series! No. I don’t get it. I stop watching after carl and rick left and leaving neegan as the protagonist
Thanks for the list and video.
I was not a fan of Spoonful of Sugar either but the lead was a great actress and would love to see more from her
I loved, Hard Candy! I watched it after you recommended it in your recent psychological movie list. Great recommendation! Thank you!
To me Dark Waters was phenomenal. Now I need to rewatch it!
Love your videos💙
Aww Swarm is a mini-series.... I haven't finished it yet but I've loved it so far
I finally watched M3gan. Loved it!
I found Spoonful of Sugar difficult to suspend my disbelief for. Without spoiling the ending, the chances that those types of people meeting by happenstance is so unlikely it felt like a Goosebumps episode, lol
I really liked Deadstream! It was fun 😄 For the new movies Feed was really good. I haven't seen Last of us (yet). I started re-watching the X-files, so comforting 👽
"this show has pedro pascal which we love" hahaha yeah. love.
Swarming, definitely bizarre, the beehive on full Blasty blast.😂
You should do a review on the upcoming movie Nefarious. Looks to be a good horror/thriller!
Thanks for the review Emma! I think I’ll give Deadstream a watch soon
I'm doing swarm once a week with friends and I really just want to binge it... One of our group already did! Babylon is such a frustrating film! Gah! And yes completely agree with you on The Son, I was rolling my eyes at a lot of it. I think the only other horror I watched last month was Swallowed which I believe you've already talked about. That was a fun one.
I loved Swarm. It's definately in my top 10 shows of the year so far. You're not alone in your feelings about TLOS though. There were only 2 episodes that really stood out to me or moved me. Also I'm curious, did you watch the final season of Servant yet? You put it on my radar to begin with so I'd love to hear how you felt about the ending.
I loved Swarm, such an unexpected gem, highly reccomend it as well!
The ending 😱
I loved the hell out of Wrath of Man. my favorite Guy Ritchie movie. I like how it isn't just a revenge movie. it isn't just a movie that moves around a plot-line that is revealed until the 2nd act. but it's about a father's revenge. the wrath any human can feel after losing a child. and the way is told is unconventional and fun.
Hi Emma, are you gonna watch the mario bros movie?? 😅😊
Absolutely brilliant content 😊thanks Emma.
I only saw 2 things on your list. Loved Swarm! Not what I expected. Loved the journey, didn't like the last episode so much, but I thought it was a great series. Also, I am not interested in the Last of Us for the same reason you said. I was got tired of my fav characters dying on the Walking Dead and the fake out deaths leading up to Negan's arc. What Negan did was the last straw for me and I'm still not over it. I stopped reading the comic too around the same time before it got to the Negan arc for similar reasons. The show & comic got too depressing for me.
When you talked about dark waters I thought they did another remake for the 2002 horror movie Dark water. my Fav movies from lasst month would be Alone, Thunderball, and Sleepaway Camp
I loved Swarm, perfect for people who like Psycho, Pearl, American Psycho, etc.
Yea Negan (I think that’s how his name is spelled) killed it for me too
I liked Dark Waters much more than it seems you did. Ever since Erin Brockovich I’ve been totally into movies where lawyers stick it to big corporations. Michael Clayton, The Rainmaker, A Civil Action…more more MORE!!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Another great video with some awesome suggestions. The Swarm was an interesting ride still not sure how I feel about that one yet I need to give it another watch. Did you see The Hunt (2020) that was an interesting political satire/thriller it is definitely an odd one but one worth checking out.
Hard Candy is my #1 of all time. Ferociously intelligent and funny film.
Totally understand re: Last of Us; could relate to what you said. Thank you, though, for saying "is still happening" re the ongoing pandemic. Despite many wanting to move on, the pandemic is still hitting a lot of people hard and covid is still disabling many. Anyways, appreciate your content and honest opinions (the only way, really)! As you say (and it's become a kind of mantra for me), stay safe and stay spooky!
Was not really a fan of Swarm. When I hate the main character it’s hard for me to even care about what happens. Also I didn’t like the ending at all and that made me feel like I wasted time. However, it’s crazy and entertaining to say the least. I watched this in one day.
The lead actress in Spoonful of sugar kind of reminded me of you , Emma. Just the looks, of course. 😂
So many people say that about literally every single actress haha, do y’all know what I look like 🤣
I absolutely love Hard Candy, and something about it is very much easy to rewatch. I haven't seen Last of Us yet, we don't pay for HBO Max consistently, but I'veseen Let's Plays of both games since I'm too scared to play horror games
. I guess I could see it as a simple story, but people really connected with the father/daughter bond plus the choice that was made. I'll be more interested in what you think of what happens next, the second game was much more controversial in a way that I enjoyed.
Have you seen attachment on Shudder? I haven’t seen many people talk about it but I really loved the representation in it
A feature that I wish Letterboxd had is the ability to flag films as ones I do NOT want to watch lol
Interesting suggestion! Does it incorporated a platform indicator like that offered by Just Watch (that tells you what platform a title is currently available in for your region).
@@AVspectre Letterboxd does have a "Where to watch" section for each film but it doesn't appear to be as accurate/exhaustive as on JustWatch.
I'm really surprised you didn't like 'Spoonful of Sugar'. It's so much twisted fun!
Haha yeah just not for me unfortunately 🥺
They made a film about Silk Road... and made *the dude who invented it* the protagonist??
I recommend Barely Sociable's video on this, which basically pitches it as a Succession-style failure drama with tons of delusions of grandeur. The way the whole operation was eventually taken down is ludicrous but an amazing story.
I live under a rock because I’ve heard the kids speak of This is Us, but if you’ve seen one post viral story, you’ve seen them all. Swarm, on the other hand, was disgustingly original & disturbingly awesome.
Last of us is the biggest show released this year! This is Us is very different haha
Hard Candy. Is this the movie from the early 2000s? Definitely love the epic payback. I haven't seen it in 20 years!
Great 😊
Another month gone already!?!
I was not a fan of Spoonful of Sugar at all. There were some pretty creative moments I did enjoy, but in the end the plot made absolutely no sense and they left so many things untied. It's like they threw random ideas at a wall to see what would stick, and nothing did.
I did watch The Handmaiden(2016) by your recomendation, Yes.
I forgot that I watched Hard Candy. I like Patrcik Wilson. I was a little confused with the Ellen/Elliot. I didn't know.
While looking up Hard Candy I thought, "Mabe I didn't watch this"?
That's ok. I thought Patrick Wilson was in Arrested Development. _shrugs shoulders_
There is the new season of Slasher: Ripper on Shudder. It is so good until now. You won’t regret watching it.
I fell asleep watching Megan in the theater. For me sucks. All the good parts where shown in the trailers.
Yes! The Last of Us, while well made is so very tired. Here we have a post-apocalyptic series based off of a video game on the heels of a global pandemic after 11 seasons and 12 years of The Walking Dead I got a very strong sense of bleh. One thing it made me realize is that there aren't many shows in recent years that I am truly excited to watch. For TLoU I was just like "cool. Something to fill an hour."
I loved watching this with my wife. She can’t handle horror and even found the intro theme creepy and preferred to skip it. Nevertheless, the character and story focus pulled her in and she really enjoyed it. I think it’s great for a wider audience that may not be all ‘zombied’ out. :)
@@AVspectre that's wonderful! I'm really glad y'all had that experience. It's definitely worth watching and one of the better television shows I've seen recently. Quite a few scenes were very powerful too I bet I cried more than once.
The contrast I'm trying to illustrate though - speaking for myself but I am curious if anyone feels the same - is between the current TV shows that are available to watch and my level of obsession and emotional investment with it. Some current shows that I can say mostly scratch that itch are: Barry, The Handmaid's Tale and Euphoria (to a degree). But I'm holding out for the next Mr Robot, Breaking Bad, or The OA.. Which I found to be totally novel concepts executed in a way that get me excited and keep me invested.
I really liked Dark Waters it reminded me a lot of Erin Brockovich, which is a fantastic drama if you haven't seen it.
Women Talking is rated M in Australia (not sure where you saw PG). Rating aside, I agree that it's a very intense film, and reminds me of 12 Angry Men in being a heated drama taking place in chiefly one location. The arguments presented by the characters are all riveting, and I'm glad I saw this at the cinemas.
🖤
Honestly, Emma, as a lover of the game I also found the Last of Us show to just be okay. I feel like it went too fast and didn't give us time to bond with characters the way that the game let us. Good show and adaptation but just okay lol
Women talking was great
Must watch
The Number 23 is a great Psychological movie.
I probably missed you talking about it, but have you seen the latest season of YOU ?? What did you think of that twists and ending ???
I have Enormously enjoyed The last of us.. I just love those kind of set ups and long stories that don’t bore me.. acting and set ups are good.. everything is good.. we just should not expect trascendental storytelling that takes you beyond all you ever experienced all the time.. u know? I try to watch “fear the walking death” like every month lol.. just because I like long fleshed out stories with some stakes and substance to them.. and it’s hard mates lol. The last of us I just really enjoy all of it really I found it remarkably original in everything even the script e character interaction.. for a set up we’ve seen a million times, when you think about that it’s quite remarkable
I haven't seen the movie adaptation of Ready Player One but I have read the book and I really enjoyed it. Also Swarm does look really intriguing however I have seen some criticism in regards to the representation of mental health and also Donald Glover's past comments about Black women don't help much (Mayowa's World did a good video discussing it)
M3GAN was cut to get a US PG-13 rating. The uncensored version was made for a US R rating, which roughly equates to the Aussie MA 15+. Therefore the differences could, and seem to be, minor. I believe the US blu-ray is tagged as "unrated", which means instead of resubmitting it to get a US R, it just went out without a rating. In Oz ratings are mandatory. 🙂
Well we share the same it was ok opinion of LOU. Always enjoining your videos.
PS: It had a lotttttt of plot holes
I'm sorry I had to delete my original comment and repost one. I'm doing talk-to-text so forgive the lack of punctuation ect
I came to your channel specifically to see if there was a series that you watched and liked because I have watched everything that's worth it. Swarm, per the critics and reviews, was totally different than you are describing it. In fact, it dissuaded me from watching it. Hearing your perspective is completely different than what I read. So, in turn I am going to watch it now!
I also wrote my original post before you had even finished speaking about The Last of Us. It was not hyped up to me and I was reluctant to watch it too because I am also very tired of post-apocalyptic movies or series. Unpopular opinion: I can't believe that the walking Dead is still being dragged out. So, I was apprehensive to watch The last of Us but I absolutely loved it to the point that it was a show that 'stayed with me' meaning it's been awhile that I've watched something and I still think about it. It's very possible that it's the genre or it was so talked up to you that you expected something way more than what it was. I've had a huge crush on Pedro Pascal.
''The last of us. I don't know if I should say post-apocalyptic anymore. Anyways it's after a virus outbreak''. Yeah, sounds kind of familiar.
i was just thinking about the last of us before i clicked on this video!

I saw Dark Waters in theatres years ago. It was so encapsulating, and scary! Oh and another WTF movie, if you haven't seen it, is Annette. Not horror, but definitely horrifying.
For me Swarm just became frustrating by the end, it felt like an exercise in making people uncomfortable, the entire finale consisting of a relationship that starts in that episode was just filler to keep us in that cringe state of mind where we are waiting for something to go wrong, the final SCENE however, i love and ties the whole thing together
Ah, Pedro Pascal - king of the escort mission.
I agree. The Last Of Us is good but not great.
First view! Lol stay spooky 🖕(if you know you’re a real one)
Say zombies everyone knows what you mean lol
Totally agree with you about The Last of Us. I was also expecting...something more. It was well done but pretty generic at this point.
i liked tlou but i didnt like the pacing rly at all but idk i played the games too
So I rented Babylon and I enjoyed it almost till the end but it kind of took a wrong turn for me when she ended up in that creeps dungeon of horrors. I don't even remember the very end. Which is a sign that it is pretty forgettable. I also tried to watch Spoonful of Sugar but I just couldn't get into it I may try again.
I love Dark Waters! I think it is a fantastic movie and it talks about a very serious issue!
It made me want to throw away all of my pans, though...
Yeah I had no idea about the pan thing!
I stopped watching TWD once they almost got negan and everyone shot at point blank and he never got hit by a bullet.
I loved Megan.
Hey 👋 Emma 💜💋🌷🌈👼🏻
Sooo you've been on the silk road?
👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️
I think the ending of the Last of Us wasn't as big or had as much impact because the last two episodes felt like they were rushed.
"I've never been on there, no one can prove anything" HUH???
I saw Emma put up an ad for someone to steal jamie's oscar...
Lock me up bff
Wellllll you're not completely off 😅 there's a similar loss coming for tlou that to me it's unfair just as what negan did on twd
Spoiler!!! 🥺 my opinions were based off of this season, and if similar to negan.. that’s exactly my point, it’s so similar it’s hard to connect again - that’s exactly what I was saying 🤷🏻♀️
I have yet to watch Women Talking. I’m working up my courage. 😢
Thanks for your honesty, as always! ❤️
Babylon! I’m glad you said it. I found the ending incredibly pretentious. That’s my problem with films about filmmaking and/or writing. Misery is the exception, and I love a good bio pic, but there’s something about art being about itself that falls super flat for me. Like, who writes a song about writing songs? Lame. Otherwise, it was pretty good.
They needed to cut the film off at its knees haha then it would have been great
