I was just about to place an online order for a Yamaha FG850, but after listening to this review, I may just go for the FX830c, I just loved that fresh sound :)
I bought one last year August and it’s really good, it’s very beautiful and the strings stays in tune without problems (even the g string). I don’t know if you can see the picture I have clearly but that’s the Yamaha.
Comparison is not a fair one, as FXS830 is a cutaway, which itself changes the tone. Better to compare FS850 to FS830 to hear/see mahogany/mahogany vs spruce/rosewood combo.
Always great reviews...Thanks! I think the scale on the FS850 is a little longer than the FS830, 820, 800 which leaves me out because of a rotator cuff injury some time ago...dang!
I love how you switch from spruce FSX830c top to the mahogany FS850 top. Using everything the same mic's amps etc, as you do lets your audience really here the difference. I found your video by searching for acoustic guitars that played as easy as an electric guitar and the Yahaha FS720S was number 2 in the survey list I found on Google. After checking around I learned that the FS 720S has been phased out in favor of the FSX 800's. So the question is does it play as easy as an electric guitar? Again thank you for the great Video.
Do or would they make a fg850 for a lefty? Hard to find an intermediate guitar that has the tonal qualities in that price range, I have an RG 420 l, from 86' I've been picking around for over 15 years now, that has taken alot of love and abuse. I have a great appreciation for Yamahas ability to make a durable and good sounding guitar. This will be my final acoustic purchase for next 15 to 20 years and its between Alvarez's Ad60L or the fg850 if I can get it in a lefty lol.
Thanks for the video. I'm not a Guitar player. Before your video in the morning I purchased a Yamaha FSX 820c and wondered if I made the right choice. Even though the FSX 830c is close to the model # I just purchased. Is the FSX 820c that I purchased this morning. Is that a intelligent choice??? I know nothing about AC. Guitars. I want to go from amateur to pro, through hard work. 😊 thanks for your input. From Roger.
Soo… 830 and 850 sounds better than 820.. better projection and fullness… if you still have 820.. keep it until they release 900 series and wait until you see some videos to buy accordingly
Out of the box these 800 series guitars are usually a bit high on the action. They have plenty of saddle material, so its easy to adjust the action. Only a fool would go too low though as it kills the tone and can lead to all sorts of buzzing problems. You always see these "I like it super low" comments. Makes me laugh every time. Everyone likes a good action, but you cant get an acoustic as low as an electric without tone issues!
I like how you review guitars, I'm learning a lot in every video. If you have to choose between the Yamaha FS 850 and Taylor GS Mini, which one would you choose for better sound? Thanks!
I have found the 800 series can be a bit high out of the box. But its easily adjusted to your liking. Just dont make the mistake of going too low! I have three yamahas, and all but my LL16/12 required action adjustment. The 12 string has a perfect action for me without any fiddling, although when the hot weather came here in Sth. Australia, I had to adjust the neck relief just a tiny bit....
Please... less talking and more playing on ALL your videos. POST the specs (in side by side if you like) and let people read them. Sound is more important than specs and for someUA-cam is the only place to HEAR them. You can read about them anywhere.
Love your sense of humour and your guitar demos, Chris. I am a proud owner of a Yamaha FS800 for over a year now. These are great guitars, period.

Go for it!

I just got a FS850 and love it. I have a FG 110 red label from the 70's and it's surprising how different they sound from each other. Great videos!
grazie! Ho ordinato una FS 850 avendo già una FS 800..le adoro...sono ancora più contento dopo questo tuo video! Ciao e grazie!
please made video comparison yamaha FG830 & Yamaha FS850. thanks
I recently bought an fs850, it honestly sounds gorgeous.
yeah oh right I went into guitar center to try the seagull entourage and picked up the gs850 and was blown away at the sound. So warm and mellow.
I just got one too. I like the sound of it, but when I bend a string or use vibrato it makes a really scratchy sound. Does yours do this?
la série 800 de YAMAHA EST terrible !
yeah oh right Does it sounds better than Gibsons double ott ..? All mahogany blues guitar
Saving up for a ls 16 dark tint...looks a bit like the fs850 not as pretty but double the sound

Bought an Fs850 yesterday at the EarCraft closing event in Dover, NH. $357

FS850 sounds fantastic
I prefer the FSX830.

Is fs850 better than Big Baby Taylor?

Anyone can give me an idea of the action on this guitar? I like it low. Cheers

Hey Chris how much for the fs850 and does it come with case? thanks

istik fg850
looks like a great value for the money.
hi, is the action comfortable?
The whole 800 series’ actions are very comfortable without any sort of modifications :)

laminated?
I like this one too. Out the door price? Case?
I wanted the fs850 but its so freaking expensive in my country
850 or any mahogany guitar.
“ Tinder account “ LOL
You appear to have fat fingers like I do, how in the world do you pay that narrow Guitar neck? I have this guitar and find it impossible to play.

@@AlamoMusic Keep doing what you’re doing Chris! I love & appreciate the information you’re sharing with us
Like em the way they are. Cheers Chris.
You can get the alvarez masterworks all solid mahogany for the same price and in my opinion is a much better sounding guitar
So go for it.
