I think generally a good rule of thumb is being the aggressor from the get go and booming behind it. You take the element of uncertainty out of these games because even if one of your teammates is a newby I think they struggle when being pressured early but can do some damage if left to boom. I think even silver players know that they need to make units and kill the enemy with it even if it takes longer. So you as the higher ranked player need to do early aggression and slowly boom and essentially carry the entire length of the game ngl. Or pull a Beasty and beat 3-4 players alone after your teammates quit either or lol
the problem is that sometimes you try being the aggressor but all your teammates stay behind trying to "boom"

The real game spoiler is that the enemy French spawned closer to your bronze English teammate than your other teammate in red did.
But the teammate that was Gold 1 was worse than Gold 1, even worse than Silver 3. Idk Could it be that two different people play on that account?
Not a problem if he know hoe to build barracs. It's Q + s. Should hold more. Going for berries as english means you're potato
@@fupopanda Or maybe that person usually plays team games with friends who are better. I usually play team games with the same couple people so one of us has an inflated rank and one is lower.

The biggest issue when it comes to climbing, especially in 4v4, is that once you hit high diamond you will start to play against plat/diamond premades, and the game will give you gold/plat teammates to balance your rank, since there are very few diamond players who queue team games. I had tried soloqing also after seeing you, but may just stop as my last game I was fighting 3 guys all game and ended the game with 700 kills while my teammates all had under 200. Its not their fault, but its just a bit frustrating to play.
Yeah the whole "good enough to carry your 3 teammates" logic doesn't really work out unless you get access to their population space too. Otherwise you're 200 pop against 800 in no time.
Even if you don't have lesser ranked teammates, ppl who are on voice com have immense advantages if they are competent 1v1 players. (That said, I find most team games are played by pre-mades. Maybe it's because I rarely solo queue team games.) Going 2nd TC? Perhaps you are targeted the moment you step on that stone. Or perhaps you are targeted because you are French. Your opponents coordinate their scouting and track your production precisely to know your plans and timing -- let's be generous here and assume you haven't been wrecked in dark age due to civ matchup. And you can expect to meet 2 armies where you build your TC and lose half of your vils you sent there, assuming you even have your 2nd TC built and assuming your teammates actually reinforce. And that's a big assumption if you are solo queue. Guess how I know? cuz I am typically one of such opponents.

Welcome to the world of 4v4 solo queue. You can do everything right and it can still be a case of you win some, you lose some. I’ve been soloing 4v4s for a while now and the best I’ve hit is D2. Drongo you rightly discuss being a carry and interestingly after experimenting with a number of different civ and play styles I find balls to the wall feudal aggression to be more effective than greedy boom into late game for exactly the reasons you experienced here. There’s no guarantee all your team mates will survive til the late game for you to make that game changing difference.

A year later and this is exactly the same problem I have in random team matches. There is ALWAYS that one guy that has no idea wtf he is doing, drags the team down and in the end basically did nothing with results in a 3vs4. Its literally impossible to claim the ranks in random team match ups. This happens to me almost literally every single game.
I don't think just having big economy and outproduce the opponent will make you win games, especially when the enemy are making units that counter yours. Men at arms into spears, janissaries into camels. I think having the correct unit comp and out microing is also another huge factor when you need to trade against more than 1 player.

Yeah blue was way behind compared to rest of your team, but still i think, like you said if you simply focused on your own defense and matched the enemy push on their flank , it would balance out and most likely give time to your other two teammates to get up to speed as well.

Drongo, loyal sub and watch all your stuff but you're incorrect on team game
when you said you defend flank yes, but also the point of the team is to assist and hold lines
often good to build some production on other side as well - typically split forces and don't weaken your base too much but ALWAYS ASSIST
the hesitation kills teams, and victory chances for 3v4 go way down.

How can you help someone on the other side of the map who can't even help himself and builds archery range first against knights?
It's simple really, this game is built and balanced with 1v1 in mind primarily. Team games are more of an after thought.
Now I don't mind that personally, but that just means AoE4 is not really a good team game.

It is hard to solo q in team 4v4 it's hard to carry
4v4 maps are still too big. There should be forced fight for resources. Everyone just turtles and hits the resources in their base and goes for trade. Should have to push out. It just breeds everyone booming.

I'm sure a beginner is capable of following the build order at least to Age 2 before it gets overwhelming. But if not, the first thing a new player should learn is you get to Age 2 using only food and gold. Sitting idle for 20 seconds and then moving all vills to wood was wasteful. Simply moving all vills to sheep at the start would be a better use of the same 2 clicks. After that, just rally new vills to gold and you'll get the res to age up faster than this guy did.
@@diggoran The guy probably went to the toilet during the loading, and then realized the game had already started so he panicked, selected all vills and clicked on a tree.
@@diggoran I wasnt talking about the dude that had the weird opener, but about Drongo advising on Beasty's build order guides. Drongo, don't do yourself like that, your guides are of a far better quality than Beasty's.
Had the same problem last night went to defend opposite flank and I got flanked 😢
I have got to be honest, I feel like team games aren't balanced. Because if 1 player quits or gives up, it is impossible to come back from that. I mean seriously they have a much bigger army so the opponents will overpower you. One way I have thought of dealing with this though is allowing for the remaining players to have the other population space. I.E. the entire team should have 800 population space and even if one player goes away the other players can match the numbers; and at the end of the day it would really come down to micro.
Tough break, truly impressive 5 TC under 9 minute build though. Gonna have to try that out.

Said it once I’ll say it again, all it takes 1 guy on your team to not hold his own and you lose. However, the best thing to do I think is push the other side. If you would have tried to put more pressure on yellow that would have forced a response from his teammates.
From that logic though all its takes is one person on the other team to not hold their own and it's a free win. Difference is there is less chance for nubs on your team as you should be taking one of those spots up... Unless the problem was yourself all along
@@bradsaproThat's true though. It's just a random element. You'll burn some games for it and you'll win some. I will say it's possible to win 2v3 or 3v4 however though, it just depends on the circumstances, so you don't necessarily need to give up as soon as someone goes down.
Nah me and my friends have often completely killed one player then gotten wiped out by the remaining players.

@@kohnjack Oh, it absolutely is a skill issue on our end. We are on the border of gold/plat and I can readily admit that we don't even know what half the civs do haha. I'm just pointing out that the "if one teammate dies early it's all over" statement isn't true. Particularly in our case, we pretty much just all in every game, and if the first guy dies slowly enough then we run out of steam and get rolled over by the other two that went 3tc imp and dropped castles all over the map.

Can you climb in solo Q? if you are in gold but play like plat, then yes. But if you play like gold in gold, you cannot carry the others and it comes down to luck and nobody has 60% luck (if u win 51% you climb slowly)

I think in 4v4 it’s almost mandatory to go Calvary with how big the map is so you can help your mates if needed. Unless your attacking the opponent right next to you
Nah I’m this case light blue lost a 1v1, after a while he got eaten alive by I believe green and the French but in the beginning. Nah that’s HIS fault. Drongo should’ve let him die

When I solo queue 4v4, I find more success in just ignoring the ally dying if theyre too far and go pressure the enemy especially their exposed eco since they wont have units at home theyre busy reinforcing their frontline. You force them to defend which also alleviates pressure from your teammate!
it sucks that french knights are still disproportionally effective in team games like this. i don't care if the dude is bronze or was idle for 20 seconds, /of course/ he's the one that gets hit by knights. of course you were on the other side of the map and couldn't really help. and he's thinking: "of course my teammate went 5tc before castle..."

Haha yeah, welcome to 4v4 team games where your team is only as strong as the weakest link.
I don't think anybody in your team ever scouted the enemy side after the initial stages, especially after enemy aggression started. They were all probably trading hard. The higher the number of members a team has, the harder it is for one guy to carry.
I hate when pocket players don't help their respective flank. It truly is gg when that happens.

4v4 is a race to drop a keep in the middle of the map and setup central production / gold.
Every 4v4 I've ever played has been trade spam.
The other problem, look who you have in that lobby. There is no consistency with who you get matched up with.
And this is a huge problem. Once I (plat I) have got 3 gold in my team when enemy was 2 diamond + 2 plats. WTF? Really? And you know how long I've been in queue? 30 sec! This matchmaking is a total shit and nobody care about it. In this circumstances it is impossible for solo players to be successful in 3vs3 and 4vs4.
The poor gold guy trying to go castle got harassed and delayed by a French player right beside him, then 2v1'ed with rams, before you even started building units. If I were him I'd post a video complaining about how you can't climb solo in 4v4 because all your teammates try to greed 5tc without building a single military unit for 11 minutes and just cross their fingers that they won't be the one attacked by 3 players at the 6 minute mark.

I call this strategy the Thanos Town Centers, you get the 5 Infinity Town Centers and then... BOOM. you don't snap them but they clap you. Yup. Damn :X
I think you stayed in feudal for too long. you lost a lot of lvl 2 spears against lvl 3 spears. let too many villagers die in that exchange as well. at the end you still had enough in the tank to pump out a few mangonels and springalds, and 2 keeps. probably still would've lost but yeah,. there was a big loss during the mid game when you kept pumping out spears instead of archers when the t3 spears were raiding. they stayed alive way too long.

The strategy to save your teammate at the other end of the flank is probably attack the enemy near your flank.
Good game to remind of the old aoe 2 adage "It's better to baserace than try to prevent damage"
