I'm from Detroit too! I grew up in Bloomfield Hills. My Grandparents lived on Greenview at Schoolcraft! Thank you for sharing your story. Bloomfield Hills public schools has a working farm where high school seniors can take a 2 hour animal science class. I took it both years. It really opened my eyes, and led me to become vegetarian. My family pressured me to eat meat again, so I went flexirarian, then vegetarian, then vegan 12 years ago. I would never go back. I have no vegan or vegetarian friends or family. Even my husband eats meat. That's OK. I know I'm doing the right thing for the animals, spiritually, and for the environment. Pineapple is OK on pizza if it doesn't have tomato sauce on it. Onion jam works well with pinapple.

I live in New Orleans which is not the most vegan friendly city in the world. My biggest tip for staying compliant is to learn to cook. No matter where you go, you can find beans, grains and tomato paste. Be prepared... keep a potato in your pocket! Lol.
Speaking of masking, I love seeing people that give their kiddos stuffed pigs to play with ad if they are friends but think nothing of stuffing pig body parts in their unknowing face holes. Seriously makes me so sad.... cognitive dissonance is passed down.
My favorite excues for not going vegan lately was because she is allergic to mushrooms, therefore can't go vegan!
