*okay. O. KAY. that "paint-by-numbers sexuality" quote (you took the words outta my head) just got you a new sub!!! LMBO!!!* #lovesit #newsubbie #protectKimberlyNicoleFoster 😂🧠🎨🖌🍯🥱👙🚿🍑
Fun fact: she didn't use any auto tune on the outro of the song. She just mimicked how it would sound on auto tune. Those were purely her vocals. If that's not talent, I don't know what is
I’m 25, an elder Gen Z if you will lol, and I am NOT feeling it. I am so exhausted of this hyper sexual, Insta baddie stripper aesthetic. The badly done lace fronts, the long nails, the lashes, every outfit having to be revealing…it’s just *yawn* I’m not even a prude in the slightest but I’m just bored! I agree with you Kim that we need some new brands of “sexy” within the Black female community. Give me something quirky, cute can be desirable too. But I can at least appreciate that Chloe is maintaining her signature locs which makes her more unique amongst her peers.
It sounds like what you want is that 90s/early 2000s vibe. I miss that. Like, I think that was a time where artists were sexy, but it was more natural than it is now. Now, you've got to dress and act like a porn star to be popular. And that's no offense to sex workers because do your thing, but when it's ALL you're seeing out there, you'd like to see something different.
Exactly !! Like everytime we critique that aesthetic people think we’re being prudes but we’re just bored. There’s so many types of sexy, why are we only being fed one of them ??
I think it’s that too tbh. I’ve been called a “jealous hater” for saying that I just haven’t cared for her solo music. She’s so talented and I’d hate for that to go to waste ):
The problem with theses statements are that you don't know her. Let Chlöe tell you who she is and quit trying to tell HER! Watch and enjoy or just move on!
@@suoutubez19 The same people that are calling you a jealous hater probably were not even around for the long haul run leading up to her solo career at this point in time. Ungodly Hour and The Kids Are Alright are constantly streamed and replayed in full in my home. I need to reach the stag that Kim is at: the acceptance stage. I am not there I am still holding out but am still listening to music from her solo career so far. I am trying to have patience.
Who carrrreeessss??? I don't understand why we can't let her be a normal pop star. Every pop star has had cringe-y, try-hardee, bad, mediocre, chaotic moments throughout their career etc etc. No pop star has ever been perfect, always on point and had it all together. Why are we holding her to this impossible DOUBLE standard? Let her play around with her image and vibe out. Let her make mistakes. Let her be cringe. Let her revel in being messy. Let her be HUMAN. In fact, this dynamic feels uniquely Chole. I don't know what other pop star we treat this way or hold to this standard.
Here’s my thing, none of Chloe’s music tells me anything about who she actually is. I understood who CxH were as a unit. They were unique, compelling, and a dynamic duo-singing about themes of blackness, love, lust, and complex but youthful human emotion. It doesn’t help that CxH actually did everything she’s trying to do solo but better. If she wants a bad b**** anthem, she already released Do It. If she wants a horny Pop&B song, she gave us Ungodly Hour. If she wants a song about lame dudes, she has Busy Boy. I hope the next single is a lot more compelling.
She needs to use her voice. Not her “voice” like standing up for herself but her singing voice. For example in the middle of treat me instead doing that stupid “rap/sign” verse she should have drop the fast/heavy beat and actually SUNG a verse because she can fucking SING! Because the chorus isn’t bad. Also make the song longer and make it a true song.
Does an artist have to reveal themselves in all their music for you to enjoy it? especially when music is a collaborative art? Maybe she doesn't want to share who she is at this stage. Its not like people have received her well. just asking
This. I'm glad if she's doing what she wants, but give us something fresh. Give us those vocals. I like her songs, but I'm always wondering when she's going to hit us with those amazing vocals. We get enough of these people who can barely sing doing all these short songs, but when someone has a big voice and it's good, you almost feel robbed (yes, I'm being dramatic) of hearing that because we aren't getting those showcases. If she's going to give us similar songs, at least let them show more of who SHE is, not what everyone is doing.
Chloe is definitely too talented for this hypersexual branding. I think the branding could be good it just needs to be more controlled. She can actually sing and dance she doesn’t need to suck on her fingers and roll around in sticky liquid to make a good, sexy music video. The choreography for treat me was sexy but still showed offer talent. These new songs may be short term hits, but Ungodly Hour is a cultural classic that still has replay value almost 2 years later.
I think Kim has a point here. THIS is the path to stardom for light-skinned BW from the South. Beyoncé is hyper talented and she also chose hypersexualisation.
@@moustik31 No one even mention skin tone. Black women of all shades are concerned. So, that's irrelevant to the convo. That's number one. Number two, BEYONCÉ was doing all of that at that age either. She wasn't licking mics or her finger in music video. And Bey was naturally sexy. On to of that, her most sexually explicit was 2013's self titled and she was in her early 30s. It was still tastful tho and NEVER felt forced
@@moustik31 Chloe is NOT that popular when it comes to stats bro. SZA and Summer Walker are doing wayyy better numbers and these are medium brown to dark brown black women
@@moustik31 Colorism plays a role in radio airplay and media promotion. However, it's VERY far from being the sole reason why Beyoncé is BEYONCÉ. She's the greatest living entertainer and has been for the past 20 YEARS. It's like two WHOLE decades
This is partly why Doja stands out and seems to have staying power. She could have just rested on the “mixed pretty girl with a fat butt” privilege and sex appeal. But she’s used nerdy aesthetics and concepts, has been fun and goofy and self-deprecating, uses different types of sex appeal, uses a variety of looks and vibes, has polished her performance abilities, and she has seamlessly blended pop, rap and R&B. It’s multi-faceted and it all comes off natural to her rather than seeming desperate or like she’s trying to fit into an aesthetic. But I still have hope for Chloe as a solo artist (and I still kinda like Have Mercy, sorry).
“Seeming” like something doesn’t make it facts. You speaking for Chloe when you can’t. & Doja & Chloe are two completely different ppl. So to compare is trash.
@@tiaraw872 For me I'm not comparing the two but Doja Cats creativity is something I feel like I haven't seen before. Chloe solo I've seen it before. C&H together was original. But she will find her niche
Doja is far and away the most interesting, dynamic, versatile pop/rap girl out right now, she's so exciting to watch. A one of a kind talent. She works so hard but makes it all look effortless, a mark of true genius imo.
y do you want a ballad??, she has lots of ballads with cxh (which y'all didn't support till she started releasing poppy stuff) & would have some in the debut album, you guys just want to complain
Yes! I would have the ballad on repeat! Something emotional, something sexual but a slow jam. Her voice is gorgeous and i would love to hear it over a slower beat
I’m always scared to speak up because ppl will label me a hater. I’m just disappointed in this talented beauty. I get sex sells but sheesh it’s really so saturated onto who she is as a person and I know she’s so much more complex. I don’t like the music she’s been putting out. Chloe x Halle’s last album was absolutely amazing and deserves a Grammy. I wish they would have built off of the momentum of the pandemic instead of going their own ways because now she’s just known as the overly sexualized chick. And yes please bring back the bridge lol
@@klfloM right? I’m so tired of seeing the hyper sexual image of black women being promoted like this. It pushes the narrative that we are only good for our bodies. I wish we could diversify our representation and brand. We can still keep this, but put more promotion out there.
@@daisykisses8803 Exactly! Like do yall understand what your ancestors have been thru and that this wasn't an option for them to be anything but sex objects. And now you have girls who do have more options and this is what they're choosing, continuing the legacy from slavery and selling this to young black girls to follow suit. But these dummies will just oversimplify it to "stop policing women's bodies." Sorry if I'm tired of seeing my sisters throughout history being represented as whores and ppl around the world who rarely encounter black women will see us as just someone to have sex with bc that's all they see when these black it girls' images are global.
@@daisykisses8803 FINALLY someone mentioned black women in the music industry. Chloe x halle duo made me sm cuz it was unique, great music and they are black women. But now chloe is just like the same old black women in the industry who are so boring cuz all she does is just talk abt sex it’s acc so tiring As a black girl it makes me sad. Idc whether it opens doors for her, WHERE IS THE AUTHENTICITY.
@@lmaoaims yea I know. I feel the exact same way trust me. Promotion like this also feeds into the fetishization of us, which can be annoying. But we do have to keep in mind that when they were being themselves, nobody was paying attention to them. Chloe kind of have to shake her a** and entertain these folks to get that bag. At the end of the day, black women in the media are trying to build a career for themselves.
My theory for why people under 30 are having less sex is because "hook up culture" is exhausting. Some people will always love it and that's fine for them, but I think after a while the quantity of sexual partners does not necessarily equate to quality and "quality sex" is potentially more reproducible with a longer term partner. Finding a partner who is interested in building a relationship is seemingly harder because there's always more options with apps and what not. So you either hook up a lot, just keep to yourself, or (if you're lucky) find the type of relationship you're looking for. (This is also coming from the perspective of someone living in a big city which is a whole separate can of worms).
There's an excellent podcast episode on Hidden Brain called Just S** which discusses the ritual/expectations of hook culture in depth for Gen Z; It slightly explored the conflation of the desire for more substantive romantic relationships to the idea of being preceived as desperate, needy, etc. Super fascinating
I don't think all that many people are actually getting to the hook ups though. There's just lots of swiping on apps and flirting for ego boosts until something better comes along, but people won't stick with one person long enough to get the cookie.
I'm definitely interested in hearing more on the decreased sexual activity of Gen Z vs. the performance of sexuality. Also, I think Chloe is just figuring it out, but her solo stuff hasn't been memorable.
As a gen z-er myself (I’m also cis and straight so that factors into it), I think it’s because we’re so hyper aware of misogyny and how it manifests in hook up culture so I know personally it makes my friends and I super picky about who we hook up with. Most men just don’t deserve my time and attention so it makes finding one to hook up with difficult.
@@steph2234 wow...that's so interesting 🤔. I'm a mother of A Gen Alpha so I'm praying so hard she doesn't get influenced by the music to be hyper sexual. I'm a Gen X parent so she kinda looks at.me like I'm ancient 🙄...only 45 yr old. But I do teach her about being selective and to have respect for herself.
@@tamarastone141 Displaying sexuality in art doesn't necessarily correlate to how much sex someone is having. A lot of us Gen Z'ers talk about sex a lot, but we don't partake much in it. The reason why we're uptight about having sex whilst talk openly about it is because a lot of us watch porn, mostly interact with other people online, have to work many hours due to struggling financially, can't afford to live on our own, and have to watch the world implode. My life is in shambles and I'm too busy to get a boyfriend.
@@oprincesslivie02 she should have done the full dance routine from the video when they are in the pool because it was the only good dance routine in the video.
Another thing is, the visuals of this new song don't even fit the lyrics of the song. "Treat me like I treat me", but the visual is focused on her trying to entice this potential partner. Tells us nothing about how she treats herself like she's asking. That adds to the cringe effect of the misplaced sensuality. So it's not even about demanding she covers up, it's just that it feels so put on. Often when you see a half naked woman, you may pretend to clutch your pearls, but you can't look away. But with Chloe I have to make myself watch the whole video to support but I'm embarrassed for her the whole time. It's quite weird.
I think the song is a double entendre for masturbation. Treat me like I treat me. Then the music video makes sense. Which for me made it more disappointing and made me stop supporting her as an artist who claims to be Christian every second.
Yes! Would've been nice to see her spend a day pampering herself..taking herself shopping spas high end dinners jet setting..and having men from all over the world fawn over her maybe. Idk. But wouldve been cool and different. Like a black girl luxury vid in music.
@@Blissedx I agree. That type of video would fit the song. Lol I can totally see her being sexy, getting massages, enjoying a martini on vacation, sipping quality wine in her bath with bubbles, dancing too. The devil horn hair lets me know she already sold out.
I’m exactly Chloe’s age and as someone who isn’t very sexually active myself, I think it’s a symptom of the age of the internet. People feel the urge to overperform because of the sexual performance we grew up seeing, which was empowering, but also made a lot of people feel weird if they weren’t sexual and promiscuous and outgoing and made it a lot harder to communicate if you weren’t that way. That, the sexting era + dating apps just leads to a whole lot of talking shit and playing it up but not being able to back up what you say or at the core of it not actually being interested in those things, but feeling the need to perform them anyways to “fit in.” Does that make sense??
Plus being perpetually online and dating that way pretty exclusively leads to not ever meeting and therefore no sex. You can vet people a little more before meeting them, so I feel like less one night stands are happening because there is no mystery to people lol. Back when people met at a club it made sense to go home together. Now people act like you’re weird if you approach them in public. People were more sexually active in high school and college tbh (in my experience) because they saw each other more and were more curious. Once you realize most people aren’t as impressive in bed or sex isn’t as “great” as people made it seem on tv, you become disinterested. And we never really had to get used to getting rejected in public, so most people aren’t and don’t wanna risk it. It’s a lot. I’d love to talk to you about it sometime!
And I’d question is it was empowering or named empowering to continue the hyper sexual and objectification of black girl bodies with out critique and with intellectuals ascribing analysis on celebrities that do not exist … like going deeper it what that era is
The hyper sexualization and self degradation of women disguised as “ confidence “ and “ empowerment “ is TIRED. I’m so sick of it and Chlöe is forcing it. That’s peoples issue with her, we can tell she’s trying to be something she’s not. She doesn’t know who she is. Yet.
As a sexless gen z college graduate, I don’t have time for the dating scene. I don’t feel the urgency to be partnered so relationships are not a priority and the labor market is too competitive to juggle figuring out what to do with my life and partaking in hookup culture. And I think it’s worth talking about the realization that hookup culture mostly benefits men. I’m not going to waste my time looking for a sexual interaction that will leave me unsatisfied. I’m opting out until I have time to invest in a real relationship. There is liberation in this era of sexlessness in my opinion.
I remember being in your shoes thinking education was more important than human connections and relationships. That will change Going into your 30s while paying off those loans. Or realizing the degree wasn't necessary
@TM Wow, maybe nobody spoke to you this way "when you were their age," but this comes across as hella condescending. Your perspective is valid (and VERY relatable), but people's priorities *naturally* change with age. Plus they already finished college so 😬... I hope THEY feel it was worth it 😅 I feel *SO* BLESSED to have escaped the hookup hellscape in my 20s, and to have started dating before smartphones existed, but I wish I'd been more focused on graduate school than on romantic relationships when I had the chance.
@@TM-nb9zf That's true but is better to be alone than to be with someone and still be alone. To be in a relationship with someone is like investing in a very very good business. If it's bad business you lose a lot of money. Which is good business you'll be rich forever. In this case money means 'peace of mind'.
I would love a deep dive on the disparity between sexual performance and sexual activity in the youths these days. I’ve also seen that stat and I believe the reasons behind it could be socioeconomic as well as cultural. Yes the culture rn is inundated with sex and sexuality, but also there’s also the fact that it’s really hard to get in the mood for sex when you have to spend most of your youth figuring out how to make a living in a country where wages have been stagnant for 50 years while the COL continues to rise past the point of affordability for many people. Today’s US hustle culture reminds me a lot of the work culture in Japan where people are also not f*cking because everyone’s too busy working. That’s just my speculation though, I’ll let you make the video 😂
right! and i think i even read a statistic that youth today actually have less sex today and are lonelier than previous generations despite the claim of “hook up culture”! it would be very interesting to see a video on it!
This is the take. Which is why we all so unbareably hot and sexy, cause frankly it's easier to look hot then to have sex. Certainly cheaper and less risk of pregnancy cause who needs THAT??
I don’t think that’s it. I am Gen Z and it probably has more to do with the internet, social media, maybe pornography. We are stressed and anxious abt our future but trust that we aren’t working that hard lol
Pop n B is my jam. I love Chloe bad so 'm just gonna love her through her self discovery and hopefully see her on the other. Her performance does look forced for me but that is her prerogative as an artist. I have faith that she will find that sweet spot for me cause she is just so freaking talented. As an OG Chloe x Halle Stan I really just think The Kids are alright and Ungodly Hour are just crazy amazing masterpieces that they so lovingly crafted. But I'm rooting for Chloe so I'll be here
Same. I have to realize that I'm at an age where I'm no longer growing up with these new artists like the ones from my day, therefore their journey is going to read different to me. With that in mind I am here for whatever she wants to serve. 😊
I want Chloe to succeed of course but I'm just not feeling it. It's just BORING to me like you said. She's become a less interesting artist and trying so hard to do something that so many other girls have done better (or are currently doing better) for so little reward.

Kim, I love how you brought up the disparity between sexual performance and sexual activity at the end! I think that, at least on social media, the generations under 30 overcompensate sexual performance to counter act being less sexual overall. The social media age is all about the performance, the facade of being it all and having it, so sexuality or rather sexual performance wouldn’t be any different.
Agreed, and also it’s a cycle where people see perfectly curated sexual performance and when they get into the actual act and realize how awkward it can be and how communication, trust, physical practice, change in libido etc (to just name a few) are all apart of a healthy sexual experience and growth they may shy away from it. We should see more honest images of sexual experiences that involve those things.
This. Plus, I also think we've gotten to a point where sex is so everywhere that the desire for it has probably gone down. In my day, sex was out there, but it was still held back quite a bit. Sex was still something a bit special. Not saying it isn't, now, but it's not treated as such. And I understand that is something we need for sex to stop being so taboo, but at the same time, are we putting so much sex out there that we aren't stimulated by normal sex, anymore? I'd be interested in seeing this compared with the rise of easily accessible porn causing a lot of men under 30 to now deal with a lot of ED, as well. Like, there are so many layers to all this and I'd love to see someone examine it in-depth.
@@lindsayt7950 I agree, but then I think this is where it tails off into the involvement of porn. When I was growing up, porn was still in magazines and on at midnight on HBO or the playboy channel. Now, you can type in anything and see it all day. And because younger people are getting even worse sex ed, which seems impossible, they turn to porn to see what to do. Then, regular sex is nowhere near what they see in those videos. You get guys upset they can get hard and stay hard for 10 hours straight, you get girls trying to do all these special moves and if they can't, they feel they aren't any good. We had a huge rise in being "kinky" and being "vanilla" is now seen as weird. If you want to be vanilla, you'll get mocked about it. I think it's created a lot of insecurities that a lot of older people don't have because we didn't grow up seeing these sexual acts and comparing ourselves to it. And it wasn't widely available, so you couldn't come home and watch it for 5 hours straight. And when you finally get to the actual act, you're either underwhelmed or so overwhelmed that it just turns into a mess. And goodness help you, because a lot of partners won't be nice when they realize you can't perform, no matter the gender, and then you become even more insecure.
What I find interesting is that Rnb /pop black/mixed girls. Their definition of growth always has to be "sexual". Its almost like that is the only way a young woman can show her confidence. I feel bad for other young girls who look up to them. A woman's growth is beyond being sensual. There are so many other experiences and developments she could have shown.
I feel like she is testing things out and experimenting with sounds, vocals, etc. I am so excited to see this young lady when she finally finds her niche because her ability to play instruments, dance, produce and stack them vocals is insane to me. I cannot wait until Chloe fully blossoms, I was watching Zach Campbells interview wiith Chloe and she did say she is just having fun and experimenting right now with her music. I need the team to let this young lady write her songs because her pen game is amazing by itself!
I was waiting for this cause the video ... was not giving. I had to go watch Janet to see if I was crazy. But she gonna do her, and Imma stan anyway cause I enjoy the song. But most importantly-you look AMAZING!!!
Absolutely giving 90’s heart throb. Fresh Prince guest star hottie. Gorgeous! Edit: Just reached the part of the Pyramid video where she acknowledges this look was 90’s early 2000’s inspired 😂 So in retrospect ITS GIVING WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO GIVE!
She’s incredibly talented but in my OPINION, her current music has been dumbed down and doesnt sound like timeless music that we can listen to in 10-20 yrs. Hell in 5 yrs. That first song she came out with is all but forgotten about. She can sing SING but unfortunately it feels like she is relying on her other assets and antics that others with less talent have to use to stay relevant. I think its a compliment that alot of her fans want more from her. But hey, if this is her artistry, i’ll step aside until she comes out with something I want to listen to.
As a 25 y/o bisexual black man, I would like to see a video breaking down sexual performance vs activity amongst people under 30. It could be really interesting!
Tbh I feel the Chloe solo roll out has been a bit of a mess, particularly because they are not making use of HER talents and uniqueness and are instead trying to make her someone else. Perhaps some of this is really her. But as we can see from the Treat Me credits, she is not injecting her own creativity and sensibilities into this era with her incredible songwriting and production skills. I think they need to go back to the drawing table a little bit. I miss Chloe x Halle lol.
I completely hear you that it’s the type of well that sells but it’s SO unfortunate that artists like Adele and Billie Eilish can just sing while wearing long gowns, baggy clothing and STILL make the charts, win the awards but the only time people even just pay attention to Chloe is when she’s half naked.
We might not want to say it, but there's definitely a bit of a racial aspect there. Women, but black women, in particular, are always hypersexualized. When was the last time you saw a black female singer, who was mostly covered up, being a big name? They always seem to be around for an album or two, then they kind of fade away. They might still be doing music, but they are not household names. And, tbh, I think those types prefer it because they don't want to have to sell their sexuality to be famous. I'm not saying you can't if you want to, but for those who do not, the industry seems very unkind to them because sex sells.
@@BooDotBoo I think you are right. Kim mentioned it: as soon as Chlöe started to be more sexual, she blew off. Cringe or no cringe, people were talking about her, sharing her pictures and her videos. It put her on the map. And if she was tired of not paying attention to the charts, it makes sense, that she chose hypersexualisation to get her on the next level of stardom.
@@BooDotBoo black women in the industry hyper sexualize themselves. Hell the black community doesn’t help. Chloe only started getting male fans, reactors and attention when she went hyper sexual. Meanwhile her day 1 fans of Chloe and Halle who loved and supported them for their unique music and incredible voices are being gaslit and called prudes for actually wanting Chloe to not be another mediocre sexual barely singing pop act that will not be remembered in 2 years.
Chloe x Halle are the ONLY female artists (as a collective) out right now that have “old school” artistry, which I define as: songwriting ability, producing, vocal training, strength& technique. Collectively they also are developed as artists I.e. what record companies USED to do; training them to be STARS, giving them an image, and developing IDENTITY etc. They had a slow rise to fame, which is good. Everyone that lasts does. But most importantly artists that last have an identity. All the new girls look and sound the same. The reason why Lady Gaga was THAT GIRL was because she had an individual identity, sound (that defined what pop music sounds like today *flips hair*) and she was TRAINED. If you wanna compare Bey to Chloe it’s an unfair argument because Beyonce was in Destiny’s Child for over 10 years, and before she went single, she went and did individual projects like DreamGirls, Pink Panther, etc. to create her own identity separate from the group so when Crazy in Love came out it did not sound like Destiny’s Child. It sounded like Beyoncé. I don’t like comparing Chloe to the other girls BUT. Their sound, look, and identity are ALL THE SAME. Billie Eilish is THAT GIRL rn because there is NOBODY else like her. Sound, look, identity then she writes, produces, and is TRAINED. She stands out because she is her own person…. Chloe is still in development. Normani is still in development. And it’s embarrassing because they are doing this in the public. These girls should be in boot camp working through their craft so they can come out strong as individual artists with strong identities with something to say. And they are not. They just blend in. I blame the record companies and their teams for being so money hungry.
Yeah I agree I feel like people don't give enough credit to Billie (and her team) for having such recognisable and unique aesthetic visually and sonically when she was so young and only had an EP. Theres a reason why she blew up so quickly
Dreamgirls and The Pink panther came out in 2006 after DC3 disbanded officially tho. The Fighting Temptations and Austin Power Goldmember movies would be better examples bc she was still in the group when they came out in 2001-02
Here to say I STAN BREE RUNWAY AS THE NEXT IT GIRL And hopefully Chloe gets her own sound and the recognition. I remember when Rihanna's hit was Pon De Replay and years and a lot of work later Sia gave her the hit DIAMONDS which defined her best era.
It does bother me a bit that Chloe didn’t write this song or have a hand in producing the track actually because to me it shows the record label doesn’t believe in Chloe to write a hit single even though Ungodly Hour was brilliant! I personally don’t like the song as I felt that the song was too busy in a such a short amount of time, especially in the chorus with the booty sample but the harmonies at the ending were so dreamy!
She did write the main parts of the song. She has credit on Spotify. You should watch some of the interviews she did recently where she speaks about how it came about. She wrote it with one other person based on what she said in her interviews. And I believe the other names in the credits are from the sample
Songs being so short nowadays also makes it harder for me to captivated. For me I want a song to bring into a different world, which I feel longer songs do that for me. These short songs don’t ever feel like a complete idea, just a work in progress.
Beyonce said it best, releasing music to stay relevant not making music that stands the test of time. It will show in years to come...the music industry is so watered due to the internet and globalisation that people do not stand out in the ways they used to because before they were strategically made to stand out from the rest
@@nia-yl7lq Exactly, her rent on her 2013 HBO "Life is But a Dream" documentary about artists "not making albums anymore" is even more relevant in 2022
I feel like Chloe and Shensea both have a sound and vibe that is being damped by a ton of exterior things. I would love to see women behind the scenes help cultivate these women.
The thing is Chloe or anybody can be whatever they want but people don’t have to like it. Much like freedom of speech. You can say whatever you want but you may get labeled.
Yes! I’m glad you mentioned that comparison thing, because same…why?!? Chloe & Normani are both amazing and doing their thing and it DOES not have to be one or the other. Stop it and let them shine!
I think it’s a fair comparison, they both were in “groups” and are now doing the solo thing but keep dropping singles with no album.. both overly sexual and Raunchy in there videos and performances … and both are really talented but people feel like they’re not living up to their potential
I think she is sexy, but not sure she can be sexy without being overly exposed! She is such a cute girl and i feelmwith every video she is ecposing more and more. Almost saw her ovaries in this song... still talented though.
Yea. There are some who just exude sex appeal. Although Chloe is gorgeous, she just doesnt come off as sexy no matter how much she forces it on us. It doesn’t seem natural. Now her sister actually has sex appeal. She reminds me of a baby Janet. Maybe its all about not forcing it on us. Let it flow naturally
I just need her to come out with good music and I fear they're not going to let that happen. She's super talented and they're just selling her looks. You can say they're selling the vocals as well but I'm sure most people who don't care much abt how she sings these songs... Bc they're extremely short and just about ass.
An artist that is doing the Pop n B thing right at the moment is Tinashe in my opinion. She gives us songs with versatile production, good songwriting and sickening vocals! Would love if Chloe makes stuff like hers, I'm missing the authenticity.
It’s crazy how things like readily available porn, hypersexualized youth in media and sex driven music has had an opposite effect on youth. As a gen z elder (I’m 24) I literally had zero sex in high school, college lost my virginity at 22 and didn’t start having consistent sex until last year in my first relationship. And a lot of my girlfriends are virgins. I know that my religious upbringing of sexual suppression and my severe social anxiety had a lot to do with this (although this is did have an adverse effect, I distinctly remember a handful of church girls I grew up with that ended up being teen moms) but even outside of the church this is still the norm and it’s so fascinating. I think that this is also related to gen z being less likely than all previous generations to have a drivers license and just being super anxious/depressed overall.
I believe the reason those under 30 are having less sex because despite hookup culture, for me I value compatibility before intimacy but even then only where I feel safe I'm more open to exploration. We also believe we don't take as much shit from those we have sex with, we're concerned with other things such as hustle culture or trying to better themselves before relationships and I agree that we are definitely more insecure and depressed. I think we're more aware of the risks of sex, safe sex, sexual violence etc. There's more I just cant think right now but I thought I'd add
I’m glad someone like you is giving their honest thoughts on Chloe’s music, because most the time if ppl give their opinions on her and it’s not 100%, they’re “tearing down black women”
I love Chloe as a person. She is an adult she can do whatever she wants. I hope in the next few years she doesn't get tired of the path she has chosen and start to talk about how black women are always sexualised because she has done this to herself.
I think some artists need to realize that popularity isn't everything. It doesn't last. It alternates from artist to artist. Uniqueness and artistry is what captivates an audience and gets them to stay.
Here’s my honest opinion: I feel like Chloe ONLY is succeeding now because of her body, sex appeal and looks. It’s not for her talent, vocals, musicality, artistry and music production. Most “fans” or people in general don’t know she can produce stellar music. Her and Halle are beasts and such rare talent never found before. I haven’t seen much new fans listen to her and Halle old work. Never seen God spoke, the kids are alright, tipsy, forgive me etc being played in mainstream media. Only do it got appreciation but only for 2020. That’s how you know they are only there for the dancing, pop music that trends on tick tok and the fun of it all but not actually for Chloe’s music. Music is very important to them both you can see it. Chloe always is saying she produces music in interviews and people are like what? It’s like the general public is not seeing her or Halle for the talent they have. Beyoncé signed them for a reason and freely gave them the push to express their unique raw sound. To be honest it’s our fault. Chloe and Halle never got appreciation for their original true sound. They got looked over for years for less, and have to fight for so long just to get their flowers now. And ironically it’s not for their talent as singers/song writers or their artistry, but it’s rather for their sex appeal and acting (Halle being Ariel in the little mermaid). They are never trending for their music being so good, the only glimpse we got of that was for their last album. But they had to change it up a bit by being sensual to even get appreciation. That album didn’t even get any Grammies or awards only a few. We are the problem here. I bet you that if Chloe was appreciated before as a artist and singer she wouldn’t have changed so hard. It would have happened more gradually. The moment we gave attention for her sex appeal, that’s when her and her brand changed. It was to keep us entertained. This isn’t right.
I agree and its honestly sad. But then at the same time I always wonder why is going mainstream so important or the standard? I mean yes being mainstream gets you more attention, fans, and money, but it is never sustainable. Those 3 things are so flakey. I honestly prefer when artists are a little underground and don't sell out because it keeps them more authentic to their music and themselves rather than doing things for the attention of people outside their core fanbase. Its that core fanbase that sustains them than the people who are there for a moment. Not saying that artists cant change their style, but you can usually tell when someone is being true to them. I think that's the problem with Chloe right now, she is not being her true self and it shows all because she, like many, think the grass is greener on the other side.
@@nicollettes4665 I think people want to be mainstream because of the money. Indie artist struggle just as much as mainstream artists do. Music isn’t profitable artists get paid more for their brands, sponsors, modelling, or acting. Music exes get most of the money not the artists. And the indie artists have to tour a lot to even get money which doesn’t go to them 100 percent. With minimal Fans this is difficult. I get why Chloe choose this route, her and Halle weren’t making it as they should. There music was not appreciated only do it got got noticed. You even see how Chloe’s solo music only trends for a day because she’s sexy or giving the bad girl energy. Not for the songs itself.
I think a big lesson I’m learning now as a life-long pop consumer now growing into my adulthood is that even pop stars-heavily produced and curated entities that they are-need the time to experiment and grow into themselves. Acts don’t settle into their angle right away, runaway success or not! And the only way that process can be finished is to RELEASE MATERIAL and feel their way through the growing period (which is where I think a lot of the frustration towards Normani stems from lol)… people forget it took Dua and Billie and Doja years and years of grinding out playlist-fodder little singles before reaching their current stardom. It just the way the industry works at this moment. I have lots of hope for Chloe!
Doja was in the industry since she was a teenager and just started becoming popular when she started showing off her body. She called herself a cow and shook her boobs in a cheap music video that got her viral and then she did a song called Juicy where she was naked and comparing her booty to fruit with Tyga which boosted her following again. After she reached her peak sexiness she started releasing the fun serious raw women focused songs. People are forgot it because they didn't see her grow up like they saw Halle and Chloe grow up. Doja did exactly what Chloe is doing. This is the formula.
I appreciated Normani’s Wild Side (extended) for having a bridge. And that’s not to compare! I posted this comment before I got to the end of the video. I love them both.
I’m 8teen and a virgin people are so surprised to hear that from me because they say I don’t look like a virgin. As a black femme who’s knows black peoples have been facing over Sexualization throughout history. I think a discussion about sexual performance in my age demographic would be interesting. I’ve never really deeply thought about it but for lack of better word choice I dress “sexy” but I don’t have sex lolz I’m weird.
I was floored when I saw that Chloe didn’t have a big hand in writing/producing this - it sounds exactly like something she would write. It even has that unconventional touch that is in her work. Kudos to her for making the record authentic to her. Not a lot of artists can do that
They did say the attention span is shortening so people dont do projects and pieces of art like they use too. Beyonce is a different breed. I watched her whole coachella. Her Oscars performance was spiritual i dont care what anybody says.
That Oscar performance was phenomenal and has so much replay value. I've been thinking about it EVER since. And I go back and watch it on a daily basis. Beyoncé knows how to take her feeing time. She ALWAYS deliver against all the odds
I feel like the “doing too much” critique is a bit of a cop out and not telling the whole story. I think you hit the nail on the head in terms of the music Chloe is doing solo and the music she did with ChloexHalle. I love how eclectic their sound was and how involved they were in their projects and it was good music but just not selling. I was a bit perplexed at how Chloe got to perform at the VMAs but not ChloexHalle, but it’s about the hits. Hearing you state the credits on the song regarding lyrics and production says everything that needs to be said. She wants a hit and as talented as she is, Chloe doesn’t feel like she can write/ produce a hit on her own, so she’s gotten help. I’m hoping her album shows more dimensions than the last 2 singles (but I do love Treat Me so I get it) and that she can be versatile as a solo artist. Some of those videos she posts to IG where she’s producing and in the lab are some of my favorite content from her. I’m a fan and I’m rooting for her.
I feel this so much. If Chloe has to shake what her mama gave her a little to get the folks reeled in to who she truly is (on this album) then so be it. It’s the pop star formula. Bait and switch.
@Boywonder she's still "with" her sister lol. They're sisters. They're both working on solo music and films but CxH will still have releases in the future.
You can tell when people don’t really pay attention and pretend like they do… ChloeXHalle performed at the VMA’s last year they chose not to do the main stage because they would have to fly out for it and it was in the height of covid.. They also haven’t split as a duo. Chloe decided to do this album when Halle went off to film TLM, and now filmed 3 separate movies and Chloe has filmed 2 while wrapping up one tv show and filming another.
Not me over here singing the bridge to Freakum dress lol it definitely did take the song to the next level. I'm with you on this #makebridgesgreatagain
A perfect example is Chloe and Halle Drop. The way that song is crafted, the vocal gymnastic, the way the beat rides, it could only be done by Chloe and Halle
@Lakacia Lloyd So well put! I 100% agree. I have enjoyed Have Mercy and Treat Me but they're missing that factor that made Chloe and Halle unique to begin with. ANY FEMALE artist can do what Chloe is doing. It isn't unique. It's commercial.
Gen Z watched their millennial siblings suffer, their gen x parents suffer.....they are ditching heteronormative constructs and saying no to that struggle life. They are a trailblazing generation. This millennial loves them so dearly.
I honestly feel like if Chloe would’ve waited to go solo, made more music with Halle and explored their sound a bit more, Chloes solo debut would’ve been so much better. I honestly expected Chloe to go solo years down the line once she’s more established. The music and image is most definitely generic and while she says different, it comes off inauthentic. It’s like she’s constantly telling us she knows how to be sexy rather just *being* that way.
The music industry is more cut throat now. Chloe and Halle are ridiculously talented and they need a bigger budget to do all of the things they want to do. A music contract is like a giant loan. You have to pay it back quickly before you can start doing your own thing. Chloe is doing the right thing for her success down the line. We just can't see it now.
Thing is Chloe has done the music people are now begging her for. When she did that music she didn’t get as much attention as she has now. So I’m giving her grace.
I believe its because she didn't have to grow up in the spotlight like Chloe did, Child stars have an incredibly hard time transitioning from youth to an adult so I think it's another factor as well.
I don't think Chloe realizes people have finally caught up to her musical aesthetic and are ready for it. The season on the artist is of the horizon. For me, her current stuff, because she is very talented and skilled, is experienced as regressive. I wish this wasn't my take. But hey, as Kim said, I am not the target demographic 🤷🏿♀️.
I don't believe people have caught up to her yet. She still needs to carve up a bigger space for herself so that she can release all of her unique music not just the sexy ones and people will actually listen. She is going to transition from sexy to genius real quick.
Calling this song her Freakum Dress is giving this song a lot. They need to stop comparing her to Beyonce, especially Beyonce at her prime. Not first single Beyonce, B'Day Beyonce!
I love Chloe! Her solo music isn't my cup of tea, but I'm still rooting for her. I think with time she will find her own style. She has an AMAZING voice and pen game.
As far as gen z not having sex… honestly, sex is fun but it’s risky especially if you’re not in a genuine committed relationship. There’s a lot of fears that society has instilled into my generation regarding sex.
If we’re being honest. Chloe was giving Bad B energy with Halle. The performances gave that IMO so idk why people are acting like this is brand new 🧐 I expected this from her 😂
What you said about Chloe doing what sells reminds me of Josephine Baker and doing what she needed to do to be a super star in France. She was expected to be exotic and appease a larger audience and once Josephine got to superstardom, she was open to do whatever she wanted. To be as luxurious and glamorous as she wanted. Hopefully Chloe can get to that same freedom of artisty🙏🏾
If you think about it, isn't that what Beyonce did? Beyonce did what she had to do to sell originally and now, she can be as pro-black, authentic or as inauthentic as she wants to be.
If you think about it. In those times it was seen as new, fresh and scandalous . This “doing what you need to do” everybody doing it in this time. We’ve seen it all. But Chloe is young and still trying herself, so I don’t really care what she does. I mostly listen to her on Spotify rather than look at her music videos.
I think that's also what Rihanna had to do. Specially after good girl gone bad was sexy. Even Stay she was naked in a bathtub for no reason. But as soon as she could, she dipped. She's free. I don't blame her one bit. Do what you gotta do Chloe and then be free.
I agree with what you said about bridges, a lot of the time they're my favorite part of the song. Taylor Swift is a master at bridges. I wish the other pop girls still did them often too
It could be a change in society expectations for young people. More love yourself and self healing and less building a family to find self worth. That sounds like a great topic to have a discussion about!!
to sum up my thoughts succinctly: Chloe presents artistically like she just had sex for the first time. and it’s disappointing because i feel like she’s so talented that the hit will come without the extras. Even if she wanted to adopt the sex symbol aesthetic, there’s a way to do that without it looking so forced.
@@SweetUareDesi it is as much as i hate to admit it. and you know it’s cringe level when even thirsty men are telling her she should dial it back. and it’s sad because i think she’s one of, if not the most talented girl we have right now. she can do it all, but everything is just so raunchy it distracts from the talent.
i swear chloe should watch your videos on her because everyone else is just attacking and dragging but you have legit criticism and things that could help her and i would love to see her take your advice
Chloe definitely should not watch these videos. People are allowed to express their opinions, but that doesn’t make it good advice. Chloe should commit to doing what she wants, not take direction from a random UA-camr, who’s not really saying anything Chloe’s haters haven’t said already. Not saying that this UA-camr is a hater but her comments don’t differ much from those that are. Her fans need to let Chloe do Chloe, and stop micro managing her career. She’s not obligated to please y’all.
She needs time to come into her own. It just feels like she’s doing what she thinks she’s supposed to do and doesn’t come across as authentic or natural, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chloe was actually very inexperienced.
This was so PERFECTLY articulated. Most people watching won’t get it because they’re lost & confused by the media, but you hit the nail on the head, Sis.
Of course, young people have been inundated with 1. You better not bring no babies in this house 2. don't have kids until you can afford them 3. I'm not taking care of no more babies 4 you better figure it out 5 if you were grown enough to have them, you grown enough to raise them (also every body can't become a millionaire off of teen mom, especially if you are not white) They have taken it in, they understood...and they accept (shout out to Storm) Now those same people telling them 1-5 are also telling them 1. When are you going to give me some grandbabies 2. It would be nice to have the pitter patter of little feet running around 3. What are you waiting for 4. You're getting older, how long are you going to wait 5. You don't want those eggs to turn to powder do you 6. I didn't think you were serious about not having kids (7. Not an oops baby or nothing...I mean God's gift) It's a trip.
I think the reason people claim this newfound image is inauthenthic, is because it lacks identity. She's clearling very inspired by her peers ( the existence of the Do It Remix, to me, goes to show just how much she admires them), perhaps to the point of parodying them. Given time, I think she'll be able to flourish in this new lane in the same way that she has as a duo with Halle. I'd love to hear you delve deeper into the lack of sexual acitvity in this generation cause it shocks and confuses me but at the same time doesnt haha
It’s giving just got out of the covenant trying to leave it behind. It’s like she doesn’t believe her talent is enough. And she may just be right.🤷🏾♀️. I don’t think it is for us to critique or tear her down. I just sigh when I see her perform. It’s not coming from an authentic place. If you aren’t a former stripper it just comes off as sexy childish. Exotic dancers are performers who work hard on their routines-it serves a purpose and is designed to elicit a response in a very specific place. when it is not your life it just comes off as little girl walking in her mothers shoes. Chloe just seems like she is playing in the sexy girls makeup. Edit:I feel this was about many artists, not just Chloe. I wish the industry didn’t have female artists feeling like their musical abilities are not enough. Good luck to her. This industry is hard on everyone.
Watch her interview with Zachary Campbell. She addressed this idea that she isn’t authentic, saying that to tone it down would be her not being authentic. She’s the only one who can even determine that. I’m sorry but it’s not your place to speak on it, especially since you don’t know her personally. So y’all need to just chill and let the girl live. Move on from any artist you just don’t vibe with, but you don’t get to say who they are or aren’t.
"I wish the music industry didn't have female artists feeling like their musical abilities are not enough" right after YOU tell her her abilities are not enough. So who's doing the telling?
@@AGEE_95 these people want chloe to be their puppet, chloe has always been dramatic so everything she does is amplified. It's really disrespectful how people keep trying to tell this young lady who she is because the came up with expectations in their head. it's obvious chloe held back a lot before because she was singing with Halle. And this myth of her not singing is annoying, treat me is a hard song vocally, I'll be glad the day when these fake fans leave this young lady alone
From the inside of gen z, in what I see around me (so very anecdotal). I've noticed us women are being more picky with who we sleep with. Not saying that hook up culture isn't still there, but I meet more men who hookup than women. Also, with everyone busy figuring out their gender and sexuality, there is less focus on sex and more focus on introspection.
Thanks for this Kim! I agree 100% that she's doing what's working and selling. But it's just disappointing because I wish she didn't HAVE to perform sexy to be successful. It's clear that Chloe wants to be a star and I can see her gears grinding. She's playing that game and for her sake, I hope she wins!
I hate the idea that every woman in the public eye showing some skin is being “programmed” by the industry. It infantilizes them, takes away their agency & creates a narrative that just isn’t accurate for every artist. Some women welcome being sexualized & some don’t.
I think you mean some women welcome “being sexual”. When you say “sexualized” it means that they are not in control of it, it’s someone else doing it. Like if Chloe is dressing sexy then she’s just being sexual. But if other people are trying to make her sexy or finding her sexy, she’s being sexualized. Which technically both is happening but what you were talking about was agency so I just wanted to give my two cents! Sorry if I was being annoying.
You may hate the Idea but it is very much what is happening. Even the image of the sexually libereted and independant women in the is a trop created by labels that some artist probably did enjoy and co-signed it.
Love this video and also the shout out to Doja Cat. Also, could you perhaps do an entire video on your thoughts on Doja Cat and her artistry. I feel like this would be a good juxtaposition to what new artists should gravitate to if the want mainstream success and mass appeal. I feel like Doja Cat really captures that Gen -Z, e-girl, weird and unfiltered vibe that has really propelled her career trajectory (Lil Nas X does the same too). And not only that. but the music actually does slap and in my mind are quite unique even though they have a quintessential pop feel to it! Also, I like how you pointed out that Chloe's approach of wanting the be mainstream is very generic and typical. I definitely find that to be true, but what's more interesting is that I feel like that kind of generic and typical performance of sex (i.e. stripper aesthetic) is kinda outdated and doesn't really have lasting power. Hence, why a Doja Cat approach have been capturing the hearts of people in a different way that Chloe and other who recreate similar kinds of aesthetics has done. Anyways, love your content and can wait to watch more of your videos.
You know, this is interesting. The three people really doing it for me right now are Megan, Lil Nas X, and Doja. And it's because they have their music, but they're also coming with those visuals. I get excited when I hear about something from them because I know it's going to bring talent and good visuals and a lot of it seems personal, as well. Though I notice Megan is starting to branch out into pop more than in rap, so I'm thinking that's also giving her an edge because she can play around with visuals more with pop.
Doja cat is literally half naked in most of her songs. Her name is literally a reference to her vagina/pussy/kitty. She might as well have called her self Doja Minaj. She has multiple sex kitten songs and music videos where she is actually purring like a cat and wearing thongs. People don't realize that Doja already went through the phase that Chloe is going through right now because Chloe is under a deeper microscope due to being a child star and being signed to Beyonce. Most people missed all of Doja's growing pains. They are coming to the late to the party and thinking they know the full story and I don't like that!!!
I like Chloe and Halley both! Chloe is definitely stepping out of comfort zone and testing boundaries for herself. Good for her! We all have to live life, learn, test boundaries and grow. I feel like bc she is growing older she doesn’t want to stay in that good girl lane as far as her music. Its just she is so hyper-sexualized its feel weird sometimes bc it wasn’t her norm. Its feels slightly forced. But this could be something she is comfortable with and only she knows what makes her content. But for some reason I feel that Halley is going to be the phenix that truly rises and goes to that heightened level in the music industry

Fun fact: she didn't use any auto tune on the outro of the song. She just mimicked how it would sound on auto tune. Those were purely her vocals. If that's not talent, I don't know what is
Exactly! She mentioned this in the interview with Zach Campbell and I was stunned.
I hopeee she starts to use those amazing vocals on less cheesy lyrics. I know she can CxH made good ass songs.
Yeah we know she has talent.
I could tell it was just brilliant vibrato but it's no less astounding

Exactly 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Ravyn Lenae, Yung Baby Tate, and No Name are great examples of this!
Hey, some if us had long nails before they became popping
The problem is… we can tell she’s TRYING very hard. It’s not effortless. She will be iconic once she finds whom she truly is.
THAT PART!
Its not like people have received her well. just asking
@@ikexbankai I really liked the snippet she released because she was finally *singing*. But the sample ruined it for me.
Well said.
@@chrisman3431 I did mention skin tone because colorism is the reason Beyoncé and Chlöe are so popular.

Super fascinating
bitcccccccchhhhhh my prob eight now. my hole is lose lol
Whether ppl want to acknowledge it or not married ppl are having way more sex than the singles. Ppl are getting married later & later.
I don't think all that many people are actually getting to the hook ups though. There's just lots of swiping on apps and flirting for ego boosts until something better comes along, but people won't stick with one person long enough to get the cookie.
If that isn't my life rn as a 22 year old. I have options sexually but for something deeper? 0
I'm definitely interested in hearing more on the decreased sexual activity of Gen Z vs. the performance of sexuality. Also, I think Chloe is just figuring it out, but her solo stuff hasn't been memorable.
Yes, I'm interested in that conversation as well
As a gen z-er myself (I’m also cis and straight so that factors into it), I think it’s because we’re so hyper aware of misogyny and how it manifests in hook up culture so I know personally it makes my friends and I super picky about who we hook up with. Most men just don’t deserve my time and attention so it makes finding one to hook up with difficult.

I totally agree with your comment ! You put in words what I felt and couldnt point it out
Second hand embarrassment

@@bayleyamburgey799 I agree completely

Yup, unfortunately all this + the pandemic = dead sex life for Gen Z

I hope THEY feel it was worth it 😅
I feel *SO* BLESSED to have escaped the hookup hellscape in my 20s, and to have started dating before smartphones existed, but I wish I'd been more focused on graduate school than on romantic relationships when I had the chance.
I am 33 and I do not regret putting education and career before relationships in my 20s.
@@TM-nb9zf That's true but is better to be alone than to be with someone and still be alone. To be in a relationship with someone is like investing in a very very good business.
I mean... the US wanted to be more like asia... and i guess we're there. Lol
I don’t think that’s it. I am Gen Z and it probably has more to do with the internet, social media, maybe pornography. We are stressed and anxious abt our future but trust that we aren’t working that hard lol

Thanks for articulating my thoughts so well.
elsewhere, it has been termed "hoe aesthetics"
I reeeeeeeeeally need them to stop removing bridges from songs. Please!!!!!

I hope its just her experimenting.
This. Chlöe has the voice and the range!
And that's what I have a problem with too. Others can just be authentic and we have to do all this extra stuff to be acknowledged
Theres a reason why she blew up so quickly
except chloe didn't go solo, they're still together.
Dreamgirls and The Pink panther came out in 2006 after DC3 disbanded officially tho. The Fighting Temptations and Austin Power Goldmember movies would be better examples bc she was still in the group when they came out in 2001-02
Agree
I like her. I feel like it's weird that her solo shit is so derivative when her stuff with her sister is so sonically adventurous
I do miss the art of the bridge. The bridge on a song is truly a chefs kiss and some of these new girlies could really do with bringing it back.
It looks like insecurity to me. It doesn’t feel authentic. It doesn’t feel happy.
I miss Chloe x Halle

It does bother me a bit that Chloe didn’t write this song or have a hand in producing the track actually because to me it shows the record label doesn’t believe in Chloe to write a hit single even though Ungodly Hour was brilliant!
I personally don’t like the song as I felt that the song was too busy in a such a short amount of time, especially in the chorus with the booty sample but the harmonies at the ending were so dreamy!
Agreed, the song sounds too busy. The booty sample wasn't needed. I wish she would perform it stripped back to see if it sounds better.
I mean Beyoncé hasn’t written every song
I felt the same way 😭, it’s so much going on for a short song. I felt like it would’ve been better if the song was made longer.
I absolutely LOVE that she actually got bubba sparxxx to help write the song.
They leave nothing to be left desired. No build up, just straight to the point.
Beyonce said it best, releasing music to stay relevant not making music that stands the test of time. It will show in years to come...the music industry is so watered due to the internet and globalisation that people do not stand out in the ways they used to because before they were strategically made to stand out from the rest

Yea. There are some who just exude sex appeal. Although Chloe is gorgeous, she just doesnt come off as sexy no matter how much she forces it on us. It doesn’t seem natural. Yes to the convo on sexuality! “Paint by numbers” sexuality is such a good way to put it.
I just need her to come out with good music and I fear they're not going to let that happen. She's super talented and they're just selling her looks. You can say they're selling the vocals as well but I'm sure most people who don't care much abt how she sings these songs... Bc they're extremely short and just about ass.
I mean the song can be about ass and still be sung good. Beyoncé has some great songs and some are just about being sexy.
An artist that is doing the Pop n B thing right at the moment is Tinashe in my opinion. She gives us songs with versatile production, good songwriting and sickening vocals! Would love if Chloe makes stuff like hers, I'm missing the authenticity.
This!
333 was such a great album, I love the direction Tinashe has taken after going independent
Tinashe is a flop why would she try that if she wants to go mainstream.
Yes love her
Love Tinashe so much!!
that purple is your color! you look stunning
😴
I think everything she does is extremely redundant
I think some artists need to realize that popularity isn't everything. It doesn't last. It alternates from artist to artist. Uniqueness and artistry is what captivates an audience and gets them to stay.
Here’s my honest opinion:
I feel like Chloe ONLY is succeeding now because of her body, sex appeal and looks.
Her buss it challenge video going viral changed everything …… it really is us
@@nicollettes4665 I think people want to be mainstream because of the money.
@@redluv123 the buss it challenge showed what people are here for. I get why many og fans are no longer fans.
So right
I think a big lesson I’m learning now as a life-long pop consumer now growing into my adulthood is that even pop stars-heavily produced and curated entities that they are-need the time to experiment and grow into themselves.
Stripper culture 😂
I wish we can bring back the Alicia keys, Toni Brax, or Sade type sexy.
I appreciated Normani’s Wild Side (extended) for having a bridge. And that’s not to compare! I posted this comment before I got to the end of the video. I love them both.
I'm willing to bet that the Chloe x Halle brand was more Halle and that once Halle puts out solo music, it's going to GIVE the duo vibes
I've had the same nagging thought. wish them both well.
I agree.
Yes yes. That Oscar performance was spiritual 😭🙌🏽✨
Beyonce knows what to do stop with these starfs
Wait I thought she wrote the songs
@Boywonder she's still "with" her sister lol. They're sisters. They're both working on solo music and films but CxH will still have releases in the future.
@@Jessica.Shawnte she’s apparently listed last as a write in credits
Ok but Normani is a great example of having some essence and meaning in her songs so early in her solo career
Doja Cat is really the only one doing anything worth while to me …sonically and visually tbh.
Exactly !! She’s so effortlessly multitalented
TASTE! her aesthetic is effortless. the way she glides from chic to sexy to geeky to sophisticated, ugh
I believe its because she didn't have to grow up in the spotlight like Chloe did, Child stars have an incredibly hard time transitioning from youth to an adult so I think it's another factor as well.
all im saying is I watch Doja perform and leave feeling like im a better more capable person lol
People aren't ready for it, they just want to complain because she's showing more skin
And yesssss give GIRLICIOUS their flowers!!!! “Like Me” and “Stupid Sh*t” are such good pop songs
Girl I love Girlicious! Whole first album was a banger
@@themostbeautifulisraw4561 the WHOLE thing
@@ParisLeShea sis listen. I still play that album, I’m still mad they made tiff leave the group
The way Treat Me sounds I would’ve thought Chloe produced it herself tbh
Yeah but she was a trill spy so there’s that lol
If you think about it, isn't that what Beyonce did? Beyonce did what she had to do to sell originally and now, she can be as pro-black, authentic or as inauthentic as she wants to be.
@@toastEDmrshmello09 What does that have to do with anything?
If you think about it. In those times it was seen as new, fresh and scandalous . This “doing what you need to do” everybody doing it in this time. We’ve seen it all. But Chloe is young and still trying herself, so I don’t really care what she does. I mostly listen to her on Spotify rather than look at her music videos.
I think that's also what Rihanna had to do. Specially after good girl gone bad was sexy. Even Stay she was naked in a bathtub for no reason. But as soon as she could, she dipped. She's free. I don't blame her one bit. Do what you gotta do Chloe and then be free.
2:50 by god ive felt this for SO MANY songs recently
like where the hell are the bridges!!!!!! we love pop bridges they're amazing
Right- it’s cringe level
@@SweetUareDesi it is as much as i hate to admit it. and you know it’s cringe level when even thirsty men are telling her she should dial it back. and it’s sad because i think she’s one of, if not the most talented girl we have right now. she can do it all, but everything is just so raunchy it distracts from the talent.
i swear chloe should watch your videos on her because everyone else is just attacking and dragging but you have legit criticism and things that could help her and i would love to see her take your advice
@@titlepending1302 Deserves hate? No one deserves hate.
@@titlepending1302 stop
Chloe definitely should not watch these videos. People are allowed to express their opinions, but that doesn’t make it good advice. Chloe should commit to doing what she wants, not take direction from a random UA-camr, who’s not really saying anything Chloe’s haters haven’t said already. Not saying that this UA-camr is a hater but her comments don’t differ much from those that are. Her fans need to let Chloe do Chloe, and stop micro managing her career. She’s not obligated to please y’all.
Pop N B…. Now that’s genius
I think the sex thing is (in part) that we are TIRED. Too busy worried about the world and trying to survive (also far less motivation to have kids).
Chloe is trying too hard, everyone can see and nobody likes someone like that
She needs time to come into her own. It just feels like she’s doing what she thinks she’s supposed to do and doesn’t come across as authentic or natural, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chloe was actually very inexperienced.
She’s whatever she’s say she is. Y’all need to stop acting like you know her personally and protecting your issues onto her.
The music knowledge and research here is top tier!!!! Appreciate that so so much in this discussion.
This was so PERFECTLY articulated. Most people watching won’t get it because they’re lost & confused by the media, but you hit the nail on the head, Sis.
Of course, young people have been inundated with
1. You better not bring no babies in this house
2. don't have kids until you can afford them
3. I'm not taking care of no more babies
4 you better figure it out
5 if you were grown enough to have them, you grown enough to raise them
(also every body can't become a millionaire off of teen mom, especially if you are not white)
They have taken it in, they understood...and they accept (shout out to Storm)
Now those same people telling them 1-5 are also telling them
1. When are you going to give me some grandbabies
2. It would be nice to have the pitter patter of little feet running around
3. What are you waiting for
4. You're getting older, how long are you going to wait
5. You don't want those eggs to turn to powder do you
6. I didn't think you were serious about not having kids
(7. Not an oops baby or nothing...I mean God's gift)
It's a trip.
Kim!! YOU LOOK GOOD!! That is all ……. I enjoyed the commentary as always
@@AGEE_95 I agree I don’t get why people are hating
She's playing that game and for her sake, I hope she wins!
bridges truly are the best! and think what ya'll want about kpop, but one thing theyre gonna do is give you a good bridge
@@VintageToilet Yes important distinction. I agree with both comments.
But the reality is that labels do this...
You may hate the Idea but it is very much what is happening. Even the image of the sexually libereted and independant women in the is a trop created by labels that some artist probably did enjoy and co-signed it.
Everytime I see Chloe I have the most dramatic eye roll. Mad poser vibes...
Yeah doja actually has hits/good music and has a persona/personality outside just her sex appeal so she can appeal to a lot of people.
Yes to a Doja breakdown! I would love to watch a deeper analysis on her artistry
You have a lot of valid points in your video!
I like you!!! This is my first time watching one of your videos and I love how you approach your takes. Very thoughtful and insightful critiques!!
