Why would Giselle’s father give her colorism lessons? Many of the civil rights activists unfortunately were perpetuators of colorism and chasing whiteness unfortunately. RHOP is triggering as a DSBW to say the least and I’m proud of you Kim for speaking up in this topic.

You have to be rooted in Louisiana (and Mississippi) culture or know the history to understand the colorist culture inherent in the traditions beginning in the founding of the state by the French. Surprised Gizelle married and had children with Jamal since he looks darker skinned. I know television makes Black people appear a couple shades darker than in person.

I knew there'd be a handful that disagree with the Girl's Trip section. It's about common courtesy. Regardless of gender or sexuality, inviting someone without the knowledge AND consent of the other guests is rude and immature. That friend becoming violent does not make the other's actions any less disrespectful. Two people can be wrong at the same time. Your romantic partner is YOUR romantic partner, not mine. There are things I'm comfortable speaking about and ways I'm comfortable being around my friends, but your partner is NOT my friend. And let's keep it a buck, ladies, don't pretend as if you don't expect your girls to censor certain behaviors and discussions when your man is around. Not only do we need to vet who we go on trips with, we need to be open to conversation, before hand.
We don't know the back story at all, but there is a clear lack of understanding here and if those conversations are not had, this is how we get here. I've been on a many a trip and when issues arise or people feel some type of way, it is because there is a lack of understanding/mismatched expectations that were not communicated.
Additionally, we also do not need to record and air out all of our shit. If yall are friends, hear each other out. This situation is no one elses business. So, clearly, the person on the camera, doesn't value her friend either, the way she herself is hoping/expected to be valued.

The black experience is so layered. These are the black issues that really deserve our attention. These are the issues we have within our communities. I am a dark skin, overweight, black woman who has worn glasses since the age of 3. Thick glasses too 😆 Self-worth, ooooo child! It took👏🏾some👏🏾time, okay. But as a member of this beautifully rich diaspora of black women, we are so much stronger when we are together and unified.

I think even the idea of being in “your prime” at any age is an interesting one. Maybe when you were younger you were in your intellectual prime, maybe when you’re older you’re in your aesthetic prime, etc. I think it’s valuable to imagine that in any era of our lives we may not fully be in “our prime” in some vague sense, and instead to reflect on what qualities we want to cultivate in that period in our lives given our time, energy, and resources.
