Bluetooth Speakers: what are they, how they work

In this video I explain what Bluetooth speakers are, how they work, what's available and how they can be used.
These Bluetooth speakers or loudspeakers are packed with technology and they're so useful. They connect to your phone, laptop, or any Bluetooth-enabled device, to stream your music, podcasts, or audiobooks without a single cable in sight.
Using a Bluetooth speaker, you don't use the speakers in your device, which can be fairly rubbish for music, but instead you use those in the Bluetooth speaker and this lets you enjoy much better sound quality and louder too.
Bluetooth speakers come in all sizes and shapes for use in many areas - they can be small portables to bookshelf size models. They can be used as portable speakers and used almost anywhere.
Some are even waterproof, so you can buy them to suit your needs.
As the name indicates, Bluetooth loudspeakers are wireless loudspeakers that use Bluetooth, a short-range radio or wireless technology.
This uses low power radio signals to establish a link between two devices. Once paired they can carry data backwards and forwards and in the case of Bluetooth speakers this data is converted into sounds and amplified to fill the room.
If we look inside a Bluetooth speaker we find it has several circuit blocks: a Bluetooth block for receiving the signals, a digital to analogue converter to convert the digital data into an analogue form, which is then amplified as and passed to loudspeakers so you can hear it.
Power is provided by the battery and a power management system to control charging, on/off and the like.
Pairing is very easy: simply turn the device on, look for it on your device setting and then press connect.
Normally once this has been done once they will remember each other and pair very quickly when the speaker is turned on again.
Understanding a little more about them, you can use these portable speakers almost anywhere: for a workout, dancing, at home, at work, or even int he shower.
