I i know someone mentioned tihs already, but i think the " eliminate your roadblocks, there are no rules, the only failure is failing to beign" is some thing that will go on my desktop background right now, thank you very much
This is the best thing I have ever seen on youtube about art. This could be a full on 300$ workshop in some fancy university. Thanks for making this! I am also trying to be a background artist.
This video is so helpful! I've gotten to know more about the pipeline, but even better you explained how you explained your painting process for backgrounds! I'm definitely more excited now to work on my background pieces myself!!
Devin, this is honestly so cool of you to put this online. I'm finally at a point in my life where I get to focus on the stuff I want to learn and excel at. And this slide show of yours has absolutely locked me into it.
This is such a good and indepth video THANK YOU ! I have needed this, looking at my portfolio right now there is no direction. Planning to go through this again and note down everything I need to do. Just subscribed !!!!
THanks so much for creating and doing this presentation! It was definitely a HUGEEEE eye opener for me. I always thought in order to make Background Painting portfolio, all of the work had to be done by the artist (Design, layout, and paint). I'm definitely relived and excited to start new pieces for my portfolio. Thanks again!!! ^___^
Thank you so so much for this, It's the best video of the kind that I've seen, very helpful. And you're an amazing artist, I've been following you on Instagram for quite long but I just discovered your YT channel and I'm so glad 😍😍😍
This video is very interesting and very informative. You have great talents. It most be fun to work with people who practice this kind of work. Thanks for sharing with us your talent and knowledge.
This is fantastic, thank you for sharing this. Your work is stunning! Could you possibly do a video on csp going through the basics of lineart and building up an image from just a sketch please? you have such a great way of teaching.
I came across this today when I wanted to learn about BG designing for a passion project... the content is so helpful yet so short and clear, professional to college level information, and its uploaded here for FREE? I almost feel as if I snuck into some college class lesson archive and got a whole credited lecture from a professor. Thanks for this, I go to a design school (for different major than entertainment) and alot of these I've been told to do or have been doing, but you really made it into a boiled down clear form and everything about the creative process it all makes sense now. The dots are connected on how I should approach. I honestly have never been so excited, enjoyed, and inspired taking so much notes on every detail in this well-designed slideshow presentation. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge.
You’ve shown me how to search for new artists and that has helped me SO MUCH! Thank you so much. I’ve noticed you no longer have the speed paint/walkthrough of the painting of those two wolves up. I can’t tell if I imagined it or if it was just hidden.
this video is so useful and helpful! thank you, the examples and explanations are so clear and thoughtful, especially your thought process at the end when making that piece!! :)
Thank you so much for this video. There was a lot of valuable information for me to learn. The advice to start bit by bit helped and was what I needed to get started.
Thank you for this talk! You've made it super clear- I wish I'd seen this sooner! Regardless, thank you for taking the time to give us your helpful advice : ))
This is awesome! I may be a niche case, but I jumped on UA-cam looking for how concept art and illustration skills transition over to the animation industry for background art. The first half of this video just directly lays that precise and clear. Stuck around for the entire video... and I gotta say, this is a college course wrapped up in a tidy little package. I have a pretty good source for that- I teach two college classes- and this is almost identical to how I cover the material. Definitely going to drop a link to this presentation in my Syllabus. I think seeing all of this is a great intro before investigating the individual topics more deliberately. Well done 🤘🤘
Hi, I was wondering what you studied? Or even if you know what Devin studied? I'm currently pretty new to art and I'm trying to learn the fundamentals and basics, which I keep getting better at, but I have no Idea where I can take this in the future. Next year I plan on starting a study, but I just really have no idea what to look for (I'm currently learning drawing/ painting/ digital painting on my own).
@@M_is_lost I actually have a lot of resources to help you out- the same things I provide for my students at school. What would be an easy way to send you some links, docs, and class recordings? I own my curriculum and whenever I see someone who can use it, I give it to them for free.
"The only real failure is failing to begin"

I was really hoping you’d use Owl House as an example when I saw Steven Universe and Amphibia. Owl House and SU have such gorgeous background styles!
