I worked at Hardee's in the early 90's. Fried chicken, roast beef, hot ham & cheese, hotdogs, breakfast food...... It seemed endless what we offered. I don't miss coming home covered in grease!
When i worked at Hardee's it had the best Breakfast and best tasting Burgers out of all the most popular fast food chains. I worked 2nd shift at Hardee's back in 1985 for 2 years when I was a teenager. The worst Mistake Hardee's ever did is when we changed from chargrilling to frying the burgers, Big Mistake The customers noticed immediately, and was complaining every day. Within a year we went back to the Chargrilling. I would always fix myself either a Big Twin or Bacon Deluxe cheeseburger or a Hot Ham and cheese sandwich when I went on my break. I still think Hardee's has good tasting food and if I want a burger I want Hardee's.
Today's Hardee's isn't my memories. I worked there in the early 80's. Our food was definitely better than what they make today. I cracked hundreds of eggs and scrambled for breakfast. The veggies were cut fresh every day. A hamburger was 50 cent. We were built different back then. We cared about quality. And costumer service... just saying. I did enjoy my first real job as a teenager. I will never forget.
The Big Twin was the best fast food burger in the history of fast food franchises. I was shocked when Hardee's discontinued it. I lived near the Hardee's corporate offices and asked a friend who worked there why that decision was made, as I thought the sandwich was very popular. The response was somewhat surprising in that its popularity was what doomed it. Hardees was undergoing a drive to diversify its menu and was developing additional sandwiches. The Big Twin commanded such a large share of annual sales that it was removed from the menu in an effort to encourage patrons to try the new sandwiches. I tried a couple, but none came even close to satisfying me as much as the Big Twin so eventually I stopped going to Hardee's altogether. There may be other reasons to remove a top choice from the menu, but that is how it was explained to me. I've always thought this moment of poor decision making by the leadership is what began the decline of Hardee's. Throughout my state, I have seen many of the easily recognizable Hardee's buildings converted to other uses.
Growing up in a small town in SC during the late '70's & early 80's, we had our choice of Wendy's, Hardee's and the clown joint all within the same drive time. Hands down Hardee's was where we headed and I still think The Big Twin is the best fast food burger made!
Yet here in Greenville N.C. on January 5, 2025 there is only 1 Hardee's left in the city limits, 3 have closed in the past 5 years. This is sad being that it's the birthplace of this chain. Been a North Carolinian all my life and has seen the restaurants footprint diminish greatly over the years.
@@pepperman2385 Your point, there is still a store here and a few in towns over and plenty in North Carolina. Just saying how they declined in popularity over the years, this is not a video about white castle.
@baddad63rt5505 I found your comment about the one store left in Hardee's founding city to be an interesting fact. I decided to share another fact about a similar subject. No real point, you either find it interesting as I did, or you don't.
@@pepperman2385 Sorry but we don't have any White Castles in N.C. except Winston Salem and that's questionable. The info on it was very informative, sorry for seeming snappy with my rely.
Interesting video. Like the history, but the voice over and dry humor a little too intense for a video about the history of a fast food chain. Overall thumbs up though. Good luck!
While I DO appreciate NOT showing 'Narrator Talking' during Videos, I KNOW there are OLD pictures, nit just the lame Star one (which, REALLY has little to to with OG Hardee's). 😣
Maybe it's explained later In the vid, but, You mention his name NOT spelled like the Pig, then show a Grave with the exact spelling of 'Wilbur', NO 'E'. 🤔
Their mushroom and swiss from the 90's was perfection

When I was a kid in the 90s, I would usually get the Frisco burger with curly fries and a drink.

Big Deluxe, Big Twin, Big Cheese, Big Roast Beef, Regular Roast Beef, Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Hot Ham n' cheese

Wilber with an e, however he's burried with Wilbur with a u. Didn't his family notice?

White Castle was founded in Wichita Kansas but there hasn't been a White Castle restaurant in the entire state since 1938.

@@baddad63rt5505 No worries. It's the internet, we're all a little defensive. Have a great day.
I do WISH you would show still of the 'Old' Hardee's, when discussing the times. Not some lame Carls Jr version. 😞
I told you, we should have stopped at roy rogers!!!
Hardee's has been losing market share for years. Not sure they will be around much longer.
They closed all locally in the 90s in northern Indiana. Not back til about a few years ago at Love’s Truck Stop
I loved working there for three years dudes
I remember the fried chicken they had which was excellent but no more
Remember the Road Runner car?

Hardees added breakfast in 1975, long after they opened.
So why not mention Prydes? Small towns started with Prydes to test the market, If it worked they got a Hardees.
Well the one time I stopped a few years ago, they got my order wrong went through drive thru. Well I go two miles away opened bag, not mine.
5:11 - Hmm, seeing this old Hardee's with a star on it, maybe the Carl's Jr. Famous Star logo doesn't seem as out of place as it originally seemed.

hurry on down to hardee's where the burgers are charco broiled, not just beef it's chopped beefsteak, not just cooked, they're chatco broiled...
Good information… the images don’t match at all the story. 🤔
Dammit. Appreciate the history, But these history videos NEED the old Photos to be complete. Tappin out 1/2 way. Sorry.

Hardees breakfast is great but theyre lunch just doesnt taste the same😅
We have Carl"s Jr in Canada, but we'll never have Hardee's here. Name just too confusing with existing Harvey's and Arby's hamburger chains.
