A Christian's Happiness - Timothy Keller [Sermon]

- Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Romans 8:28 is one of the most famous verses in the Bible. People love the thought that God works out all things for good for those who love Him. Yet, Romans 8:28 is intimately connected with Romans 8:29-30 where God promises to bodily resurrect those He has called. In other words, the Bible does not promise that Christians will have more pleasant circumstances in this life than non-Christians. The Bible promises a better life to come-not better life circumstances in this world.

Being conformed to the likeness of the Fathers Son is an on going process in all that the Father allows to have an experience in our life to complete our new state as His real sons and daughters for we are not only accepted but as adopted into the life of God
"Jesus Christ did not suffer so that you would not suffer. Jesus Christ suffered so that when you suffered you become more like him."

God causes all things to work together for our good. Nothing that is good in our lives can be lost. Our best is yet to come 🔑
This is so encouraging to me, especially during COVID19. Thanks!!!
What a sobering message to the believer. So glad to be able to hear this. Talking about a mind shift in looking at life. So Good.
Christ comes into our hearts so you can Live in Him. Since our birth we developed our Person, our Ego. Selfishness never brings Happiness. Our suffering makes us run into His arms. All things work together for Good.
Amen 🙏

Idk some Christian have very easy and happy lives and barely suffer and attribute it to god lol like the Robertson family and others suffer greatly!! Like my family 😢 It is hard to understand the WHY and so thank you for this video Tim!
I do wanna say though that I think some people suffer less because they’ve made wise choices like not going into debt or not doing drugs, etc.
For anyone who is unsure about their salvation please check out Renee Roland on UA-cam, it really is all about Jesus!
Yes but Jesus also talks about healing. So he doesn't want us to suffer. Sometimes bad things are happening, but Jesus wants to restore us. also our body's.
This just depresses me. What is the point of being transformed into christ if it is the same amount of pain…
For women to be called "Sons of God" is the ultimate upgrade - God has no daughters
The Spaniel Inquisition, God has no grandchildren...I forget who said it...John Wright Follette...talking about the problem of Jesus saying this generation will not pass and I will return. Not sure what prompted me to inject this thought but hey,
@@michaelbrickley2443 Thanks for sharing that nugget. I'd never thought of it as a spiritual generation; always thought it was referring to john's vision in revelation.
For the life of me, after 50 years in the Lord, I cannot-CANNOT-understand the inability or reluctance of Christians to see the inherent superiority of the old standard of the English Bible which once united the entire English speaking world of believers in a common mode of biblical expression, so beautiful, so potent, so eloquent, so memorable, so indelibly unforgettable. So reliably true. So obviously Providential in its timely provenance. I literally loathe the scourge of “new” bibles that have been proliferated for the sole effective purpose of overthrowing that ancient landmark in the name of enhancing it. And is there is worse example than the infamous NIV? God forgive our willful stupidity.
The source of its superiority is found in its intrinsic character. I judge the character of the King James Bible in precisely the way I would judge the character of the original mss if I had them. They are the word of God because they are the word of God. A thing that can only be “known” intuitively, on a spiritual level. There is no further proof required. The proof is in the pudding. Not the rhetorical sophistries invented to obfuscate the obvious.
There are several good translations I’ve known the Lord for 45 years and have enjoyed KJV NKJV NIV NLT AMP NASB
@@gregormann7 huh?
I dont quite agree with Tim on Jesus' apearance at Lazarus' grave - it seems that Jesus refutes the sister's solution to the problem of death in the "here and now problem" by appealing to eternity and the ultimate ressurection . I think Jesus is actually giving a "here and now" solution by his response . In the non disclosure that he will raise Lazarus then and there , he does turn the attention away from the problem unto himself. At this juncture Jesus' refocused perspective is offerd as being sufficient in answering the problem. As in the case with Job neither the "happy times epilogue" nor the eternal resting place is a necessary ingredient to build a correct theology and response to the evil of suffering, and in this case death.
@gioiosa54 I'm trying to understand what you're saying?... do you mean how Jesus was trying to use death and the resurrection as the only solution? I'm confused..
I don’t agree. Jesus hated death. He particularly loved Lazarus, He particularly loved Martha and Mary. He could see their hearts. Yet he delayed coming to them after hearing Lazarus was on his death bed, so as scripture (not me) says so …….. go back read it and learn the reason for yourself and you’ll see God is great and merciful.
@@lchampag Most people dont pick up the nuance given by John in this passage , , John clearly says it , ""Jesus delayed exactly because he loved them"" or put it this way " Because he loved them he delayed his coming "
