Good stuff Bud!! Some poor Bastid was doing an emergency repair on his house, went inside for a drink just to come out and have his dead Grandfather's toolbox stolen!!☻
@805ROADKING...I'll add my thinking on the tool box: The man's wife was mad at him for not spending enough time with her....lol..!! But...those tools would cost hundreds of $$$ today if you had to replace all of them....wow what a find..!!
Some man died and someone tossed their beloved tools. Now from heaven someone is very excited and happy to see you cleaning and restoring their tools. Would love to see you clean up most of the rest of the tools from that box. Great video. I remember the big yellow street sweepers in the spring trying to remove the sand from winter ice sanding.
We used to throw pebbles in front of street sweeper. Man would yell and shake his fist at us. All a big performance cause he would bring us Popsicles in summer. Miss those days.
Ah yes. The horse drawn street sweeper. A self sustaining job if I ever heard of one. I read an article many years ago about polution in big cities caused by traffic. They were talking about road apples. 😁 I think the wire brush with the scraper is the cut off end of a painters wire brush. They are inexpensive so you don't mind cutting one down to do a particular job. Okay you caught me on the thermometer. I was thinking it was a test thermometer like the kind we used to test the wash line temperatures at work. I laughed enough to startle Lydia when you said the taste. 😁 The seal puller is beautiful.
Just cleaned out a conex Wednesday and found a few old rusty tools. 7" Dewitt Visegrip and a pair of Compton U Set 12" scissors with a patent date of 1941, Armstrong lathe knurling tool, and two Carr Lane toggle squeeze hand clamp with cushioned anvils.
My town does sweeping every spring, to help keep the storm drains from winter sanding build up. You can hear them coming from miles away. I used a thermometer like that working in the lab of an aluminum finishing plant, to monitor solution specs. What a great night you had!
When we were kids we'd all get on our bikes and race up the road to wait in someone's yard until it caught up. After we watched it go by we'd race up to another yard and wait for it. We thought that thing was the coolest!
Awesome! A year ago I stopped at the local recycling center to drop off some scrap steel in a dumpster. I happened to take a peek and there were 2 50-60s era craftsman tool boxes. Wouldn't you know it, they were full of tools. They came home with me 😀
The company that’s contracted to run the recycling centers in our area has a shop: stuff that’s too good to throw away will be kept and sold there. A lot of usable things still end up in the containers, but you will get into real trouble if you take things. Still, I grabbed a neat wooden box once - the furniture dumpster is kind of out of sight.
Yes, that toolbox was a wonderful find and I am so glad that you were the one to find it. Now we know that the tools have a good home and will be taken care of.
Wow! I think that tool box was put out by mistake. The little town nearest the farm, where we took out tomatoes, had street sweepers until the earlty1950's as wagons were used (along with pickup trucks) to bring the tomatoes to the tomato sheds for packing and shipping. Men with brooms as horse dripping's were common. Jacksonville, Texas was the Tomato Capital of the World in those days. Send fall weather down here as it is 106 at 4:12 pm. Stay safe...captjack.
Great find on your poor man flea market walk! In my little town we have a street cleaner that comes around every 3-4 years if we need it or not 😮 Enjoy your weekend and Thank You for sharing John.
That was a very good find. Glad the tool box was saved from the recycle bin, or worse the land fill. The pry bar looks better than new. I live in a rural area, so the street cleaner is the wind. Dave.
The good old street sweeper. I remember them in Brooklyn as a kid - we’d run along side them throwing trash in front of the sweeper. Amazing what passed for fun back in the day.
Always nice to find your neighborhood Christmas present in August. I can’t believe how young people don’t want anything that sits in a box that’s not affiliated with the computer. I’m filling up my driveway with equip. And tools that I’m parting with. I hope I find someone with interest. Thank You
Only poor man is the feller that misplaced that box..😁 what a great find... awesome! The snap on will make a car payment for ya..lol.. have a great weekend Mr. John!
3:18 For the old school lock -pick enthusiast … the flat spring steel wires from these street sweeper brushes were lock picking gold for me in Australia. Thanks for the vid ,brother.
The tool box was a great find! I remember the water trucks and street sweepers going down my street as a kid. It was always neat to watch them. Today I rarely see one. Thanks for sharing this.
The taste... You just couldn't help yourself. Haha. What a great score. You always have to check! My favorite was probably the lady's foot pry bar as well. Have a good weekend everyone.
I remember the street sweepers. We would always look in the gutters the morning after they passed through, and pickup the pieces of broken steel "bristles" from their brushes. They came in handy when you needed a piece of 1/8" wide hardened spring steel.
Hi John. Do you have a rabbits foot in your pocket when you go on your walks. You sure are a lucky guy. Great find in that tool box. Love what you did with that pry bar. You have a great weekend. Still over 100 hear every day. 😎.👍👍❤....
As a coincidence we had a street sweeper round just this week, we live in a cul de sac (dead end street) so the truck goes past and then back again a few minutes later - normally enough time for me to rush out with a knife and loosen up all the weeds at the side of the road so that they get swept up on his return ! What a find that tool box was, some great times there, I too like the detail on the Sears wrench, but that pry bar wow ! Beautiful sky there at the end, the whispy clouds look like there was a message spelt out in them ! Like you I'm enjoying the slightly cooler days and certainly the cooler nights !
That cooler is great. I have one that I used when taking my Troop on trips. We always had plenty of cold drinks and snacks. A great find. Out here in the sticks, our street gets swept about every 6 years, just before they chip seal. As long as the town keeps the edges cut back, the rain keeps the roads fairly clean. Good Luck, Rick
“SCORE” on the tool box, nice find. In my village we see the street sweeper quite often, but still, not like I used to see them when I was a kid. Thanks for the video sir.
Great find! Anybody can ask $110 for a Snap-on 1650, but they actually sell for $40 used and $65 new on ebay. Those are actuall sold comps from the past 90 days.
I always check both Amazon and other auctions before hitting the buy it now button. That’s a $20 pry bar tops, Snap-On is good but way to pricey for me. 😃👍
@@ScoutCrafter I haven't bought new Snap-on for new Snap-on price since I paid off my second credit account about 15 years ago. You made a great score on that lady finger pry bar for sure. It's a great tool to have!
What a great tool find. Snap on sockets no less. The other day it was a useful tutorial on accuracy, and today, a great tool bonanza. Never know what surprises this channel will reveal, but it's always fun and instructive.
Awesome find.. Love the Sears pipe-wrench. Thank you for sticking to the scrapper code lol. My granddaddy drove a street sweeper in the 50s. From what I was told it only had a small windshield an no cab 😮.Stay safe my friend.
Wow! what a great find. You have inspired me. I started to go on walks to do the poor man's flea market here in Albuquerque and I have to outrun the bums to get the good stuff! every week its like a race!
Wow! That 'poor man's flea market' find was one for the books! Those tools will all clean up nicely, but to find a bunch of Snap-on and MAC tools is like hitting the jackpot! I grew up in Los Angeles and remember seeing the street sweepers. Actually, I remember them waking me up about sun-up! Our neighborhood used to have signs that prohibited parking on one side of the street on a particular day of the week so the sweepers could get though unimpeded and the other side of the street had a different day designated. I wish we still had them around!
Fortuitous find of the month, with the added bonus of many hidden gems, all for the taking. The pry bar is a hit for sure! I suppose a lot of people just don’t want the bother of selling something, or making the effort to give it to Goodwill. Also, with no knowledge of the value inside. Great find! Thanks again
Love the Marvel Mystery oil in the background. I’m a junker . Lol St. Louis Missouri. Thanks I enjoy your videos. We still have street sweeping and if you don’t move your car to the opposite side of the street they will ticket you. I remember those brooms too.
What a haul, and for free! And the street sweepers, the whole reason for “Alternate side of the street parking is in effect”. Good seeing you yesterday!
Wooowwww 😃 what a find John 👌 you make you’re own luck though 👍 I have a 100 year old broom.. it has only had 20 heads and 25 handles in its life… 😂 sorry old bad joke, but I couldn’t resist 🤣 great episode ! all the best , cheers Rob
Some poor bastard who was hired to do a little handyman work is missing his toolbox after Scoutkrafter mistakenly snatched the poor lads toolbox thinking it was garbage HA!! Just kidding, fun video as always!
Great video 👍 That Poor Man’s Flea Market is Gold. What a awesome find. Those five Vise -Grips alone at Lowe’s would cost $80 dollars 💵, Again that is awesome! I can’t believe that someone threw all those USA 🇺🇸 tools 🛠 away ,I am glad they found a great home home 🏡👍 before they were picked up by the garbage truck 🗑 🚛. I have a Mac set of those wood handle screwdrivers 🪛 and they are pretty good. Also finding Snap-On🔧tools is over the top,What a awesome week at the Poor Man’s Flea Market 😄👍👍. That Snap-On Lady foot pry bar turned out Fantastic , great job👍. I like how you polished and smoothed out both ends of the tool and left the original bluing in the middle, fantastic 👍. Another great shot of Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in the breeze with that beautiful blue sky. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Monday. Have a fantastic weekend. 😃👍👍
I had the same reaction you did when that box opened! Holy cow, great find. I remember the big street sweepers coming down my block, and my hometown still has them. I think they’re Pelicans. That car probably has a wrap on it. New technology. Great show as always.
Nice find! I had that happen to me at the Goodwill. Picked up a cheap plastic tool box to move out of the way and it had good weight to it. I opened it up and it had a bunch of Craftsman wrenches, ratchets and sockets and other goodies in it. It had an $8.99 price tag on it but I didn’t even think twice about grabbing it.
Here in the UK, we had a variation on street sweepers. They were called crossing sweepers, and the main function was to remove the pollution of the times. It was brown and smelly !
That mechanical broom must have been lost 😂. I’m sure the main drag in CP (127 st.?) is probably swept on the 12/8 shift because the curb is accessible or during the day between 8 am and 9am it’s called restricted parking. The guy manually sweeping with the push cart the cart was known as a can carrier and the job was primarily given to men who were on light duty. The water wagon was known as a flusher. I don’t think they are in use any more except maybe after a parade. Ah! the good old days!!
Frank! I knew you would have a flashback on this one. I was always amazed at those cleaning machines, the Flusher used to (probably still does) go up and down Main Street Flushing every morning at 4 am! Main Street was a hard area to keep clean. 😃👍
What a great find I'm shocked someone would toss that out but it happens. When you said " The Taste " I lost it I have said that forever sometimes you get you just get the look and some people have a sense of humor it's like camera for a lower GI and the uper GI difference " the taste "
That was one heck of a score. Those Snap-on pry bars have the absolute best angle for prying. Compare the profile to the head of a Craftsman and you will see the difference the slightest profile change makes on ease of use and versatility. As for the sweeper, 10 years of my life was spent working on those. I know every inch of that one you saw. I worked at the dealer level for 8 years and worked for the manufacturer for 2 years. Fun fact: That machine is specifically designed for NYC sanitation. There are features on that that you will not find on any other one built by Global Sweeper (formally Johnston Sweeper). They also built a bunch of CNG powered sweepers for NYC. Also there is no mechanical connection between the engine and the drive wheels. It's all hydro-statically driven at a max pressure of 6500 psi. The city's units are governed at 40 mph but we had similar units with the same drive train that would travel at 65 mph. Imagine going 65 mph sitting in that cab knowing there is no driveshaft spinning that axle. It was cool to be a part of that companies history.
Absolutely fantastic! Those are fascinating machines and ever since I was a kid they intrigued me. Later in life I drove a Tennant Floor Scrubber. The little brother to your machines. 😂👍
That has to be one of your best poor-man's flea market finds yet. Your reaction was perfect - close the lid, pick it up and start walking. And yes, I do remember the street sweepers. As I recall, they did a pretty good job.
What a great poor man's flea market find. I am especially fond of those wood-handled screwdrivers. I often wonder if any of those "throw outers" know about your show and like seeing their stuff on it!? Your love of tools and history is what really sets your show apart from others. Thank you.
Great find John. I love it when you find something like that. It makes you feel like it was all worth wild. Now you know that you have to watch that house on the next couple of weeks just in case they aren't finished cleaning out their garage, basement, attic or whatever. Good luck. - Later
Great video Scout. When I was selling tools, guys who worked in auto radiator shops loved them wood handled screwdrivers because radiator fluid is so slippery and wood handles still provided a good grip over plastic handled screwdrivers. Have you seen the prices EBAY is asking for USA made Vise Grips?
man they sure throw some swell stuff away in your hood I would like to get a glimpse of your roll around tool box or whatever you use I have been watching your channel for a few years now and the tools that I have seen you just randomly show bountiful to say the least "how organized is your tool box"? Maybe that could be one of your contest lol
Fuller was a mid grade make of tools going back to the '60s or earlier, when "made in Japan " meant something different then I does now. I was was working in a hardware store, and we carried the fuller brand. One day I was stocking a new batch of Fullers, and one had SEARS cast into the handle. Of course, the premium SEARS tool was Craftsman.
Had a small tool box of my dad's for 46 years and just used one of the tools for first time last month; a hose pincher. Looks like a small c-clamp but it is used to clamp off a small hose, or tube, to keep it from leaking while you get the pressure source turned off. Also, he had the same exact thermometer as you showed, used it to check daughters fridge for proper cooling. My dad was a steamfitter and HVAC guy.
Hi Scoutcrafter A guy I worked with was given a toolbox about that size that was a Snap On box filled with Snap On tools like half inch ratchet, sockets, wrenches and a few other things the man who gave them to him was a WW 2 vet who was training as a mechanic and that was his tool kit in the army.
That's a lot of money for some decent quality tools. I have to wonder what goes though some people's heads. I hope the person knew that ScoutCrafter would be on the prowl!!!!!!
An angry wife throwing away her husband's tools. I went to a yard sale and this upset women was selling all her husband's tools for nothing while he was at work.
Wow you got to that before me 😂 Great Find / to bad it wasn’t a LEATHERMAN lol * Street Sweepers are all over the city never see them too much around by us - I’m glad because with street sweepers nowadays comes Parking Tickets 🎫 💰💰💰or that impossible Sticker that nobody can ever take off that they put on your Window lol have a good weekend John .
I found a solid brass hammer head laying next to a dumpster about 30 years ago. After rehandle, i used it for the "fine tuning" of dirt bike crankshafts after pressing in a new connecting rod kit. I'd love to go into exacting detail about this, but i realize it's just because I'm old...
16:48 the prybar was worth the price of admission alone. And yes old sears craftsman tools were good. Ive got 1970 craftsman tools had some of my dads 1950s tools it was a 1/4 drive with a 1/4" adaptor on the handel you could use it an an extension aside from being a nut driver. I took it in for warranty back around 1990s sears hadn't made it like that in years, because it was my dads i opted not to turn it in for warranty.
Great episode! I had some of those three wheel sweepers shown at 1:42 and used to clean parking lots, about fifty years back. better than four wheelers as the broom is out front and sweeps the nails away before your tire runs over them. Had some of those hand brooms too, they're called stable brooms.
What a awesome find. Last night I also went for a walk and found at my “poor man flea’s market” 5 vintage Batman toys in original boxes worth it around $300. Crazy people out there.🎉
Hi Scout, man that's a nice score on the tool box, it'll keep you happy for a day or do cleaning everything up. I'm surprised you didn't get the puke smell as soon as you opened the box, those rotting screwdriver handles stink terrible, I had one go bad in a tool box, and can't get the stink off my other tools , or out of the plastic box, I've washed everything , but it still stinks, any ideas how to neutralise that smell would be appreciated. Thanks scout, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
My father would also take a walk every night when we lived in Queens, he referred to garbage night as “The Great Outdoor Market”. I sure miss those walks with him.

Come to think of it there was a car next to the box with the hood open. 🤔😂👍
Ha! That’s about right!!
Unlikely, so based on the age of the box and the tools the original guy who owned the tool box likely passed away recently.
Tool boxes .. I’m telling you. I am feeling the same way.

I had the same reaction you did when that box opened! Holy cow, great find. I remember the big street sweepers coming down my block, and my hometown still has them. I think they’re Pelicans. That car probably has a wrap on it. New technology. Great show as always.
Those "Pelicans" were built by the Elgin Sweeper Co., Elgin, IL.
Excellent find John, snap on tools with vise grips, holy smoke. The pry bar came out nice also.
This is great! I just restored a 60’s era crown logo, mechanics box.
What a find!!!!!!
Enjoyed the video.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
What a great poor man's flea market find. I am especially fond of those wood-handled screwdrivers. I often wonder if any of those "throw outers" know about your show and like seeing their stuff on it!? Your love of tools and history is what really sets your show apart from others. Thank you.
The themomiter most likely the plumbing inspector making sure the hot water was not set too high
What a great tool haul man ,
You hit gold there , pure gold 🛠️
Pry bar and grips for me too. Impossible to find the old vice grips.
What a find! Excellent.👍🇦🇺
Wow,, that's some find,, 🎉,, what kind of maniac doesn't love a good pry bar,, 😃,, great video,, 👍
Great find John. I love it when you find something like that. It makes you feel like it was all worth wild. Now you know that you have to watch that house on the next couple of weeks just in case they aren't finished cleaning out their garage, basement, attic or whatever. Good luck. - Later
I thought the same thing! 😂👍
Been there too. Got a snap on 3/8 power bar and 6” extension out of a dumped box of engine bits once. Still using them
Great video Scout. When I was selling tools, guys who worked in auto radiator shops loved them wood handled screwdrivers because radiator fluid is so slippery and wood handles still provided a good grip over plastic handled screwdrivers. Have you seen the prices EBAY is asking for USA made Vise Grips?
It’s crazy- The Petersen vise grips are plentiful but the Malco’s drive up the prices. 😃👍
man they sure throw some swell stuff away in your hood I would like to get a glimpse of your roll around tool box or whatever you use I have been watching your channel for a few years now and the tools that I have seen you just randomly show bountiful to say the least "how organized is your tool box"? Maybe that could be one of your contest lol
Amazing! Glad you found that. Thanks
What a nice find that was! 👍👍
How about a dedicated weekly program, just for the "poor man's flea market"?🇨🇦
Wow! That is even better, tools with a history. 😃👍
I asked him if he would sell them he said no but he was doing nothing with them it was 20 years or so ago @@ScoutCrafter
Amazing find ! old vise grips made in the USA and snap on tools :-) WOW
Wow what an amazing find 👍
What kind of maniac throws all those great tools in the trash? 😂
The taste....Hilarious!!!!!!!
Wow you got to that before me 😂 Great Find / to bad it wasn’t a
LEATHERMAN lol *
Street Sweepers are all over the city never see them too much around by us - I’m glad because with street sweepers nowadays comes Parking Tickets 🎫 💰💰💰or that impossible Sticker that nobody can ever take off that they put on your Window lol have a good weekend John .
😂😂😂👍
What a great haul 🛠👍😊
Great find. Tools are awesome, free tools are most awesome 😎
Wow! What a nice find. Glad they didn't go to the dump!
We have lots of street sweepers in the Phoenix area. I frequently pick up bristles that fall off; I use them for keys when I make kalimbas.
The taste! LOL
Wow! You found a treasure chest!
Stable broom! That makes sense. They aren’t easy to use! 😃👍
Great haul.
What a awesome find. Last night I also went for a walk and found at my “poor man flea’s market” 5 vintage Batman toys in original boxes worth it around $300.
Crazy people out there.🎉
In the box? Wow! Sweet! 😃👍
Wonderful!
That toolbox found itself in just the right place in it's second life 😉
Hi Scout, man that's a nice score on the tool box, it'll keep you happy for a day or do cleaning everything up.
Not sure if the street sweeper comes around our neighborhood anymore, they used to do once a month...Nice find with the tools...
My father would also take a walk every night when we lived in Queens, he referred to garbage night as “The Great Outdoor Market”. I sure miss those walks with him.
