For real. I was playing this in my car with a friend of mine in the passenger seat. He couldn’t believe it when I told him they’re a three piece. Lol I don’t know of any musician that has a better understanding of how to use effects such as delays and loopers than Jeff Boyle. Maybe the guys from Mogwai. Jeff times his echo patterns in ways that they weave in and out of each other. It’s just fucking amazing. He’s the only person I know of that can do it this way.
'Sounds like they're using a lot of electronics (samplers, repeaters, pedal effects, etc.) to produce a really deep, layered sound. A lot of good mainstream bands have been 3-way ensembles: Rush, ZZ Top, for example, so it's not unusual.
@@timf3099 Yeah, you've missed the point. Not debating there's a lot of good mainstream bands that are three pieces; certainly there are. My comment was about the ability of a three piece instrumental band to conjure mental imagery of a titanic scope. ZZ Top, to my knowledge, doesn't have any instrumentals, and Rush only has a few. La Villa Strangiato is perhaps in a similar category as Jakob's music in it's ability to invoke imagery in the mind, but other than that, I can't imagine how either of those bands are comparable to Jakob's sound, other than "they're a three piece."
Not just New Zealand’s best kept secret, but the GLOBE’s best kept secret. These guys deserve all the success in the world. I was lucky to stumble upon these guys about 12-15 years ago. And they remain one of my favourite bands today. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Jakob should be the official national band of New Zealand. I live in Canada, so obviously they’re never on the radio here. I’m surprised to hear you say they don’t get much love back home either. Damned shame
Radio stations don't give a shit about music, that's why they play the same songs every single damn day . Their focus is on advertising only . . Though 95BFM is the exception

Seriously, I just can’t get over how amazing the directing and cinematography are… pick any 30- or 60-second span and the video wraps itself around the music and organically follows with it, like a wolf’s fur
Looks like I am 8 years too late with listening to this masterpiece. Glad I stumbled upon it. This song keeps me alive and lets me know that even in the darkest times, I can keep pushing through.
These dudes operate as one, they are a single being when playing together, it's hard to describe but it's something I rarely encounter. That crescendo towards the end is heavier than most of my favorite metal songs.
The hit of the strings at 04:18 makes me everything understanding. The universe / all life... it's frequency. Everything's speaking in waves. Everything
Also, the song writing / arrangement really puts it over. There's great feeling, vision, whatever. Just virtuoso playing would put them in a huge crowd with jazz pickers, prog wankers, etc. This song sounds better every time I listen to it. I've never liked ear pain but I'd really like to hear them playing loud enough to make my liver quiver.
I listened to this track over and over again while writing my way through the end of the third book of the Angelus Trilogy. In many cases it sounded like the words I was putting to paper.
