- We found a SECRET BEACH in Mauritius! As promised, here is a video we shot before the lockdown! I hope that you guys are coping with being confined and that you're safe.
A few weeks ago Bryan and Riki from BRYAN DISCOVERS WORLD told us about a few hidden secret beaches that they had found walking along the coast near Telfair Garden.
A few days later, Vic and I headed towards the south of Mauritius again to find those beaches. On the way there we saw this road we had never been on and decided to take a little detour and find out what was hiding there. We were surprised to find a gorgeous hidden Beach called Pomponnette. I had never heard of it before, making our discovery that much more amazing. We stayed there for a while, flew the drone and went for a quick swim (we decided against going for a real swim when we felt Hom strong the current was. If you decided to go there PLEASE DONT SWIM OR BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL AS THE CURRENT WILL 100% TAKE YOU AWAY). After indulging in the beauty of the place, we left our secret beach and made our way to Gris Gris. Once we got there we followed Bryan and Riki's indications and found our second secret beach of the day in no time! We were amazed to find a gorgeous little beach nested among the palm trees and the coconut trees. We had found a real little gem. We spent the rest of our day running around, swimming and making the most of the beautiful place we had found in Mauritius!
We then met up with Bryan and Riki from BRYAN DISCOVERS WORLD at Gris Gris in the south of Mauritius. They are genuinely such nice and funny people! We had a great day exploring Gris Gris with them. So refreshing to see people enjoying little things in Mauritius - Things that most people take for granted. Obviously there is a lot to complain about the country - starting with garbage on the beach (don't tell me that is the fault of Pinochet). But, guess what, there is a lot to complain about many countries in the world. Mauritius is blessed by a cool to hot temperature year round. If we use our land and even backyard properly we can eat nice fruits and vegetables. Services like haircut, transport, medicals etc.. still cheap compared to many developed countries. Imported goods are expensive and that is because only few companies who have been ruling Mauritius for decades control the market.

Pomponette is a very dangerous place to swim . Over the years many swimmers have drowned there and most them were never recovered. It is the reason that Mauritians avoid the place as the plague. The whole south coast is subject to wicked currents due to lack of reefs.. BEWARE.

Be careful when going to pomponette beach because of a rift current. People been drown there and their bodies been found miles away out of riambel coast due to that very strong current.

You are an expert swimmer n know how to manage with currents. In the past several ppl have died cuz of the currents. You are a professional surfer?
I’m not a professional surfer haha I do however love surfing. But it’s super dangerous once in the water we got out very quick as the current was too strong

Mate,there are so many hidden beaches all around the island. We used to walk along the coast every weekend in the 80” as a young boy and go fishing in those remote beaches n I still go there when I visit the island. Nowadays just google the coast and look for them. It’s an adventure..kids there don’t do stuff like we used to do. Enjoy 👍🏼🇧🇪

Hey ... you most likely have been in Bel Ombre - if you go upstream the river there is a small waterfall there. I would also suggest you visit the dams in Mauritius - Eau Bleue spillway has a fantastic view. Few suggestions once lockdown is over ...

The beach isn't a secret every day we go jogging there on the shore doing a 4km every evening from ssrn beach to riambel to poponette to st felix and return to ssrn beach back

Wow this is a great video and it was a fantastic day out. Hopefully we can get through this lockdown and go on adventures again soon. Those currents were really strong, sometimes the clear water can be surprising. That view out from the cave is sublime, I could live there (if it wasn't so wet). Poponette beach is so beautiful because no one swim there as the water current is so strong and many people have drowned there. It is a well known fact from people of the south and the myth about this beach. Originally i am from Riviere Des Anguilles which is in the south and not far from Poponette. Exert caution at this particular beach. Nice montage by the way.

My favourite quiet beach when I lived in Mauritius was la prenuese... was only ny family on the beach and the water was crystal clear and you walked as far as you could into the water and it would only be upto your knees
