I am right there with you! Diamond Eyes is Perfection! I will say tho... I have a hard time deciding if it's my favourite... Or Koi Yo Nokan... I go back and forth. Haha I guess maybe a tie. Not sure. 😅
Here's the thing about Deftones. When you first hear a song, those transitions sound awkward, but the more you listen to the song, the more you know to anticipate those transitions and they begin making sense. I love this song.
Cunningham deserves so much credit for Deftones sounding like Deftones. Even without the singing you can hear Deftones just from his unique style and kit mixing. One of my favorite drummers that doesn't overdo it on the flare and fills.
the drums is the first thing that got me into Deftones, I love how it's always so forward and striking. Then Chino's voice is just gold, the man never misses. Amazing stuff
To me, he's always had a distinct style. He's a stylist. So many people can be good and even great drummers. But Abe stands out in a pool of thousands & thousands of drummers. You can't buy that. I cant even imagine so many of their songs with a different drum.
Agreed. So much of Deftones sound is Abe doing exactly what is needed to ground the rhythm, Stephen finding the perfect riff, and Chino using that base to create the story of the song.
Great honest reaction. Personally, I love all of the transitions because they feel raw and energetic. Chino's signature soft vocals against the scream of the chorus are just a contrast and Deftones likes to paint contrasts in their songs and sound. They have songs that are like lullabies and others that make me want to jump around. Some of them do both. They lure you in and rock you! Thanks again for the Deftones reaction.
Man, y’all are going to really going to love Saturday Night Wrist. In my opinion, it’s their most underrated LP with its heavy dose of shoegaze and hard hitting melodies
I appreciate y'all conversating casually in the background during tracks. Its something the viewer doesn't necessarily get to know, but it adds the genuine factor to the reactions. I also appreciate you diving deeper into defotones
I totally get the feeling towards those transitions on first listen, they are intentionally jarring is the best way I could describe it. On subsequent listens though you expect em and just know where they are going and it is a hell of a song. It's a very complex song and to me shows off their talents and diversity.
Exactly this! I remember when I first heard it.... I was like...I'm not sure how to feel about this. Hahah but I swear it gets better with every listen. It's like once it clicks in your head. It's so damn amazing.

More Deftones! This entire album is SO good. It's the album I go back to more than any other. Sextape and Risk are two of my other favorites from Diamond Eyes.
First of all I think it's really amazing you guys are doing band promos in the beginning of your videos. Great to see you guys using your success to help others become successful! Secondly, I love White Pony and Around the Fur and I didn't listen to Diamond Eyes for until a few years ago. Diamond Eyes is definitely one of those albums that needs a listen or two to really get the feel for it since it's so much different than what came before. That being said it has some of their best work on there. Beauty School, Prince, Sextape, Risk, and Diamond Eyes are all fantastic songs. I think the only song I dislike still is CMD/CTRL.
@@adiv2181 It hasn't clicked with me. IDK it's something about the flow of the song that doesn't make me want to go back to it like say, Beauty School or Prince.
This album was the same for me. Didn’t like when I listened to it at first. Kept it in the shuffle, and when songs would randomly come on driving I’d be like , “damn what album is this?!” And over time have grown to love this album.
I remember hearing this the first time when someone recorded them doing this song live before the album came out. I was so hyped to hear the album and it really delivered. I had this song on repeat so much back then. Still a great song to listen to when going to the gym.
So glad that after a fairly long absence to come here and you blokes are checking out ONE of my favourite songs. Deftones really are just from another planet or something. Cheers to you two lads. 🥂🇪🇺🇬🇧🎭
@@muslimmetalman Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I mean, Cherry Waves is a favourite of mine, it's a slow jam. I love Bloody Cape, When Girls Telephone Boys etc. They just consistently put out good music. I've been a fan from the start, so it just amazes me that for over 20 years, they haven't disappointed me. I don't know how old you are but back in the early days, they were called Nu Metal. They were so more experimental than Nu Metal. Them being lumped in with Limp Bizkit and bands like that made me so angry. Deftones are cerebral. Real Deftones fans are just more advanced and have better taste in music. So cheers to you for being a fan. It says a lot about you
I was literally just listening to this last night at the gym, lol. 🤣👍🏻 I love Stephen Carpenter, his tones/rhythms are insanely good. Deftones are just one of those bands that transcends eras, people will still play them in 3023. 🔥
This is my first time hearing this song as well. I don't really search out the Deftones, but I love music. I usually prefer fluid groove running through it, but they have pulled off a hypnotic recipe that brings you somewhere familiar but unsure. This one got up in me. A stranger trip than even tool has brought me along.
Love your reactions to Deftones! Been listening to them from the very beginning and Ill be 40 in November lol… every single album since I was kid has been amazing! And they’re still killing it! 🤙🤙🤙
Love that you guys are still checking out Deftones songs after all these years! But still surprised you haven't listened to Phantom Bride yet (feature Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains)
Great to see y'all back with Deftones! For me this one is a weird experience...nowadays it's one of my favorites, but years back on my first listen it felt a little disjointed...a couple listens after, I was hooked! Can't really explain, but the strong instrumental together with the sedated, kinda late on the beat vocals just clicked after a few listens hahahah
Why hasn’t the song Diamond Eyes been at the top of the list for them to listen to from this album? It’s as if that song were written for them to react to.
Rocket Skates (REACTION!) or When Ryan Finds the 1 Count. He likes this song so much when he finds the one, and I (as a metal fanboy) love the "abrupt" transitions. But that is what makes Deftones so special. I really love this song, especially the verses.
I remember putting the album Around the Fur on in the car with my mom when I was in High School. Like 1999. My mom said he was gonna blow his vocal chords and not be able to sing anymore. 24 years later and he ain't blown his voice yet. Also funny to hear these guys say that's it's interesting to hear Chino bounce back and forth between soft and scream when that's literally their whole sound when they first came out.
You guys should do a video with the song “Birthmark” from their first album Adrenaline.. it will seriously blow your mind! Been my favorite deftones song for almost 30 years
Kept wishing that you guys will react this, I remember also when I was listening to it for the first time that I thought ''Oh! Thiis gonna be fast shit'' like George probably did by the looks of it, but then that juicy ass groove comes in, wooooo that shit is hot. Ryan freezing on that off beat is also comic. I am right there with you! Diamond Eyes is Perfection! I will say tho... I have a hard time deciding if it's my favourite... Or Koi Yo Nokan... I go back and forth. Haha I guess maybe a tie. Not sure. 😅
It’s perfect
Ties w ATF for me
Agree… for me it’s Koi No Yokan, Diamond Eyes and Ohms. Next tier would be Around the Fur and White Pony, then self-titled.
I was binging their self titled cuz it’s nice af but diamond eyes is growing on me cuz prince and the end of royals are😮💨
Here's the thing about Deftones. When you first hear a song, those transitions sound awkward, but the more you listen to the song, the more you know to anticipate those transitions and they begin making sense. I love this song.
And this song is a case where the transitions are sometimes made intentionally jarring, e.g. throwing in an extra bar.
I missed the Deftones reacts so much. You can see George's enthusiasm to listen to it.
The transitions are what makes this song uniquely Deftones. Wait until you hear the song multiple times...it will sink in
Exactly
EXACTLY.
This is definitely a song that grew on me after a few listens; I love this song.
Never stop jumping around the Deftones catalog. Sextape, Elite, Minerva, Beware and so much more to dive in
Beware is easily the sexiest metal song I've ever heard. They're just amazing.
elite is mid tbh, theyd prefer engine 9 or headup for that type of song
@@muslimmetalman engine no 9 is sooo good
Around the Fur!
Beware is my favorite song no one knows.
Cunningham deserves so much credit for Deftones sounding like Deftones. Even without the singing you can hear Deftones just from his unique style and kit mixing. One of my favorite drummers that doesn't overdo it on the flare and fills.

His drumming is so so groovy
Their "comeback" single after Chi's death and the addition of Quicksand's Sergio Vega as the new bassist, banger of an album all around!
I can’t think of a better comeback album
I like the juxtaposition in the vocals with the music itself. It makes the screams themselves more impactful.
I love Chino’s vocals in this song. It’s supposed to contrast the heaviness, that’s their style, that’s what makes it interesting.
i agree! Chino is this indierock-loving guy and Stephen is a Meshuggah fan. And mixing those two things together makes magic!
You guys really need to do the title track. It’s such an amazing song with incredible atmosphere and punch.
To the edge, til we all get off

Royal is the best song on the album imo, for sure.
Heavy AF 💪
Me too. It’s easily in my top 5.
God I love Royal…but I love Cmnd/Ctrl just as much
My wife and I finally saw the Deftones live this past Sunday. They were AMAZING! 🤘🏻

my favorite track on self/titled
This is one of those die hard fan tunes. So much going on but damn, Deftones can do whatever and Chino's vocal acrobatics never disappoints.
Guns! Razors! Knives! Wooooo! This song is a banger!
This is among some of their best material. This whole album is a masterpiece.
Now you have to listen to their first album “Adrenaline” so raw and heavy
Suggest song “7 words “ “Root” “ Birthmark” love you guys much love 🤘
+1 for Root
They need to hear Birthmark, Battle Axe, Needles and Pins.
Self titled album is one of their best and underrated
I've been waiting for them to react to something like 7 words to just be thrown off cause I know it would shock them
