Abe Cunningham is a hell of an underrated drummer. He isn't the flashiest and neither the typical metal drummer, but that's what makes him special. Man got grooves for days and creative beats, he definitely pulls from a lot of other styles of music like jazz and funk giving him a very distinct voice as a metal drummer.
For sure one of the best ‘groove’ drummers I know of.
He arguably has one of the best overall drum kit tones in the business. Especially that crispy snare drum.

@@maynarddrivesfast804 If you don’t know he now has switched over to a kevlar marching snare drum head. Just a heads up if you want to try and cop his snare sound that would be a big step in doing so.

It's weird, I've never been one to care about representation but mars volta and Deftones just happennto he my favorite bands too. I didn't even know they were Mexican.
Their cover of Sade's Ordinary Love is an awesome arrangement.
Much like "Digital Bath," the arrangement makes the cover hit differently. I find it challenging to find accurate adjectives to apply, suffice to say it is a favorite.
And I miss named the song. No Ordinary Love.
One of my favorite Deftones songs, not just covers. I never see anyone pick Phantom Bride either.

The whole WP album is great! 😎🤘 Chino brings such a unique vocal element to any track and the drumming almost feels like the front man on a Deftones song. If you liked this, you will enjoy "Knife Party"
Fixing to comment same thing. Listening to White Pony all day, still have it on repeat since summer of 2000. Still their best, imo anyways. Knife Party my fave song off that album....whole album is a masterpiece. Passenger is also up there. Deftones one of the great metal bands, bands period, ever.

Nailed it. They've always been a big fav of mine since high school (I'm almost 36 btw) and they have never budged from that spot for me. Also FOR SURE need to check out Chino's (vocalist) other group(s) "Crosses" {personal fav of mine as of late} and "Team Sleep." Crosses just dropped a new album earlier this year.
Crosses dropped a single less than a week ago, and it's great.
This was actually the first song I ever heard by Deftones. My brother made me a mix CD of different songs that he thought I would like. And one late night I couldn’t sleep, so I listen to the CD and found this little gem towards the end. I loved it so much that I included it in an audio drama that I made at the time. Of course, this was not released to the public, so I was able to get away with actually putting that song in there. It was for my own listening pleasure so I included it but it’s such a cool song and I was right smack in the middle of my high school days when I discovered it.

This and "Be Quiet and Drive" are two of my favorites. But they are different from everything deftones creates.

Entombed, cherry waves, sextape, xerxes, kimdracula, knife party, Rosemary. Literally just pick one for your next deftones song, they got so many atmospheric bangers that make you feel like you are high or floating.

If you like the rides that Tool songs take you on, "Rosemary" by Deftones is one of my favorites. I don't want to give away the meaning behind the song, though. The prose at play is so evocative that, like Maynard's writing, you can interpret in many ways and be at peace with your own take. It's powerful, dramatic, beautifully composed, and an audio journey. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.
Rosemary is one of their best for this reason. I agree.
Knife Party and Change (in the House of Flies) by Deftones are awesome too. And Passenger featuring Maynard of Tool is outstanding.
I agree. This is their best song in my opinion, with "Passenger" being a close second. The whole White Pony album is fire.

Deftones is on Tool level. They have a signature sound, NO bad songs and each album gets better and better!
Funnily enough this song is from White Pony, and said album has a collab, Passenger, with Maynard, Tool's vocalist.

The Deftones are my favorite band. Been listening to them since the beginning. This one is one of my favorites. They have a wide range of songs and worth listening to. Listen to Royal from the Diamond Eyes album. His screams on this song are sick

This song is a whole-ass vibe. "Bath" is fitting, since it just washes over you. I know there's something else that hits me the same way, but it's too early in the morning for my brain to work. I'll let you know if I think of it, haha.
So glad you loved this. When this came out over 20 years ago, it became my go-to song to introduce new listeners. deftones have a wide range, but a very distinct, unique sound. And I found that if any new listener didn't like this, they probably wouldn't like anything else. They go from very soft and sultry to loud and hard all in the flow of this song, but it hits home. As usual, the lyrics are a different side lol, but the overall sound is great and draws you in. Thanks again for all that you do.
I was in high school when Nu Metal came on the scene and was always a Korn fan and thought Deftones was an imitation and never gave theyre music a listen...im 40 now and stumbled on the video for Hole In The Earth late last year and I'm kicking myself for all the years I missed out on the amazing songs Deftones were making, now theyre my favorite band to listen to...better late than never I suppose 🤟🖤

digital bath and Korea are my favorites. . i used to get stoned and lay in my bed, with all the lights off and just look into the darkness..i did it every night for a long time. I fuckimg loved this album on a level i couldnt explain.

My favorite song is possibly Prayers/Triangles when I hear that song reminds me of summer time before the world went wrong with my wife driving around.
If you like Digital Bath and the atmosphere it creates, I'd say check out Beauty School and Sextape from Diamond Eyes and Rosemary from Koi. I think you'd also like Cherry Waves from Saturday Night Wrist.

Deftones - You’ve seen the butcher is one of my favorites and this is right up there. Before I knew what the song was about it hit home with me because I had this girl that was a friend I hung out with a lot and I wanted it to be more.

Year 2000, I'm 20 and working at a tiny glass box of a gas station down by the train tracks across the steet from a gay bar. My town is the oldest town west of the Mississippi river. At night it is very charmed. Driving under the freeway viaduct, headed out of town to my parents' house after work, this album is what's playing in the old Dodge Aries.
Be Quiet And Drive (far away), Knife Prty, Change (in the house of flies), Engine no. 9, just to name a few.
The album this song is on is full of soaring hooks and dark ambiance reminiscent of the dirty numetal scene house parties of the time.
On this album, I found the best breakdowns are on "Korea" and "Elite". Holistically, it was a perfect album prior to the re-release and still good with the back to school song, although nobody can decide if it should be first, and ruin Feticiera's original opening, or last by replacing Pink Maggit which is the basis for Back To School (mini maggit) being a remix, ruining the ending. But as a standalone track, BTS is a banger.

I like how the rhythm on the verse, and that clean riffs, I feel like it's written to sound like a sampled drum break. Reminds me of Massive Attack. It's hip hop.
