I use to be a detailer and this is a similar process that I used. I would use a leaf blower to dry the engine instead of microfiber towels. Also I would use a water based dressing like Meguiar's Hyper Dressing and just spray down the entire engine bay to save time. Great detailed instructions on how to clean an engine!
@ Mateo, I didn’t get to watch the whole video but I think you should disclose, that simple green is corrosive or will accelerate corrosion. Dilute your mix and or be sure to rinse every single drop of this chemical x5-10. **I learned this from automotive school**.
For real I don't even use degreaser I just hop up there and piss on it then cover it in dawn dish soap. Then spray that shit off and drive real fast to dry that 5vz-fe nice and parched
Power washers or water hoses are for people cleaning beater cars that are about to be junked anyway. If you actually care about your car, just dust off the dust and dirt with a dry cloth and then clean it with a damp cloth. No need to go overboard with engine cleaning.
Hey Bro, I know this is an old vid but I thought I would contribute something helpful here. After you remove the garbage bag from the fuse box you can directly spray it with non residue electronics cleaner. I use it on all my electronics and it works great!
A beautiful, professional job and you know your way around an engine bay. Please promote safety first such as eye protection when operating the air compressor also even small cans under pressure. Thank you. Carry on.
I use spray bottle half 409--half water....... spray on engine when cold....... rinse off with water, Use another spray bottle soap & water...... scrub lightly with soft brush...... and cloth...... rinse off........ use leaf blower to air dry and blow water off engine.......always worked for me.
Remember that you're only cleaning the top of the engine. All that dirt and dirty water goes down the sides, so make sure you rinse long enough so all that grime keeps going and drips off the engine/frame and onto the ground. If you have a splash pan, you might want to remove it before.
@@miket8571 I just bought a 22 3 days ago lol, that's why I'm here. U get one yet? Edit- thought said 5mos, but just a tip- they're hard asf to get right now so unless u want super specific options just call 60+ dealerships far away and go get it lol
What I don't understand is, some of these 4x4 s have snorkels on them for the ability to cross 3 to 5 foot stream subjecting them to underwater exposure. Why do you have to cover up your electronics and disconnect your battery when your just spraying the engine down for 2 to 4 minutes?
Nice video but I’d recommend diluting the degreaser / apc cause it will remove some lubricants or grease you might not want to remove. At the end of the day all you’re trying to remove is dirt
I get these precautions but do you cover your spod and disconnect the battery when u go thru a deep water crossing? I pressure wash my engine while it’s running..
Great vid, I would think you would get a compressor or a few more bottles of canned air. Gets rid of the other things. Compressed air gets rid of water. Cool video. Edit, Forgot he was at the car wash.
Its a whole lot easier if you stay on top of it and give it some attention once a month. I try but its not always feasible but hey......do what you can do ya know , hehe. Cool video
great video, just cracks me up with these super shiny engines. I just clean mine off well enough so the mud doesn't permanently adhere to my engine and the bay, because I'm just going to go offroading and/or mudding all over again =P trucks are made to get dirty people!!!! lol
Yeah I don’t know why all you young kids are thinking it’s some magical thing to clean the engine spray cleaner on scrub it spray it off don’t shoot water directly into the intake on purpose if you have an older car once in a great while it might misfire till the spark plug wires dry off
Don't be afraid to wash your engines! I been doing this for years, I am 50 years old and I been doing it for years!!!!! none of this is necessary just spray the de greaser and let it seat for a while, the just wash the engine with hose. Too much drama on this days. I own a 2018 Lexus RX350 a 4 runner 2016 and a Camry 2019 LEASE!!!!!! i do this every 4 or 6 months....this is too much and you don't need any of this tools and over work. I assure you nothing is going to happen lol
Use distilled water if you use water you can just pick up some air conditioner coil cleaner instead and spray that foam on it and it will clean it. Also take the bottom shield off
I'm always a little leery of cleaning my engine. Years ago, I took my vehicle to a car wash. I washed the engine. Then it wouldn't start. Long story short... I burned up my starter and had to get AAA to tow me out of the bay to my mechanic's shop. Cost me $500. I should have left it alone to begin with. Probably if it was out in the sun and could have been left to dry for a couple hours, it probably would have started. I have hosed down my vehicles in the past out in the sun and I let them dry for a little bit now before I attempt to start the vehicle.
Nice video. I have a Tacoma and do it some offroad and i have the engine very bad.. very helpfully... but quick question why you cover the fuse box ?? If I do some off road with water rute of course I need cover the box too ? Thank you
Also need to let people know that disconnecting the battery resets the pcm and the vehicle may not run good for a while also as a professional it is ok to get battery wet as it is designed to get wet
Please be careful people. Dont just wing it and start spraying wherever because you can fuck shit up real fast. There are also degreaser wipes which feel more controlled to me, but overall just be careful, be smart and never use too much water! And most importantly, have fun out there Yota fam!
How did he go thru all that muddy water that was all over his engine with no battery and bags over stuff🤔,, way overkill, just use common sense, keep distance and spray away
I have a Tacoma what is the use in putting plastic all over the place it was not meant for that it's a tough truck it will take just about anything you go 4-wheeling in mud water send you name it and then you have to cover stuff inside the engine that's not what I do I just power wash it it's a Tacoma don't temper it you talk about taking it through mud rocks you name it and then you have to put plastic to cover wires your saying very simple wire will bring down the Beast not true there is stuff inside as they are outside

The most detailed and satisfying engine detailing I have ever see
Ah perfect, something great to watch at 630 am!! Thanks for sharing.
Another tip, use a compressor or leaf blower to dry the after you power wash it. Then it will be easier to dry.
Great stuff! I need to clean my engine and am a little leery doing so, but this makes me feel more confident that I can do it! Thanks for sharing!
You got this!
Awesome video. Im still waiting for my engine to turn back on
Thanks, all went well, I'm a 65 yr old female and no problems. I used Awsome from the dollar store.
I just spray degreaser everywhere and just power wash it off. This is an off-road vehicle. Never had issues.
Pls dont powrwash it

And that's why you comment on UA-cam videos instead of making detailed and accurate videos.
I USE A LEAF BLOWER TO DRY ! For black plastics use stp tire shine spray !

Thanks for the tip bro!
Leaf blower works good then following up with a drying towel.
A beautiful, professional job and you know your way around an engine bay.

Hey, great video, I did use a blower to dry the engine, but thanks for putting it out!!
That sounds like a great idea 😅
F'ing awesome job. The last 30 seconds is the best part. Really allows you to see how crazy dirty it was to a brand new engine bay. Big thumbs up.
Wow!! I’m definitely saving this video for reference. I never knew the steps to do this! Thanks!
Glad we were able to help!
ALWAYS rinse your engine before starting to scrub all the dirt and sand into the materials
I use spray bottle half 409--half water....... spray on engine when cold....... rinse off with water, Use another spray bottle soap & water...... scrub lightly with soft brush...... and cloth...... rinse off........ use leaf blower to air dry and blow water off engine.......always worked for me.
Great video for the community - knowledge is power..!
My Tacoma is 15 years old. Ive cleaned the engine zero times. Still a beast.
Maybe it's time to clean it man
Mine is a '12...engine bay still looks new, closest I've cleaned it is just dusting it off 😎
Because you're lazy

Great video, only thing all that time to clean it and 1 trip out for some fun and it's all dirty again 😫
Best detailing video ive seem.

it's not a snorkel? it's kind of false advertising? that's why I didn't get that on mine? voodoobluetacolife19💙🌮
@@julestrdprodjimavicpro2869 You got that right, all I see them on is 4x4s that don't see any dirt
@Cru Jones no it’s so then you can go in water lmao. Yes it may help with that but a snorkel is so then you don’t get water through your intake.
@Cru Jones S N O R K E L, search what the definition is lol. your intake won’t breathe without it underwater. :P

Where in the engine bay is there exposed lubricants or grease ??lol
fastfed f like lower part of engine and some suspension parts
@@christ2054 that's not sealed ?? Yea where ?? Pretty sure the Tacoma has zero grease fittings but enlighten me
fastfed f I’m not talking specifically about the Tacoma. So you need to chill bud.
Nice video! Would this be the same process for a 2005 4runner?
Should be similar enough
Is it ok, after spraying down the engine, to let it air dry for a whole day before putting the battery back in or wiping any of it down?
Thanks for the detailed breakdown! Get it?! Looks great brother
😂
another great way to get rid of puddles in the engine is to hit the engine with a leaf blower and high pressure air hose the tight spots.

I pressure wash my engine while it’s running..
Just use a leaf blower on your alternator after you getting it wet

Did he call the engine belt the flywheel???
Its virtually a brand new truck that the engine bay was mainly dusty with loose dirt. Let's see a 25 yr old vehicle under the hood with before /after
A really great video thank you so much brother
Did you spray paint underneath the hood in black or put vinyl on it? Or could just be the lighting in the video. Looks good nevertheless
What Spods would y'all recommend @everybody ?

In your flywheel???

Simple green should always be diluted when working around stuff with oil and grease. 100% pure is gnarly on an engine and hoses. Big no no.

Negative first then positive cable 😉.

If you drive in wet weather, the alternator is constantly exposed to water.

Oh god! Pro tip use a paint sprayer with water and a leaf blower to dry. This is way too much water
