It was not only poem but he wrote many revolutionary poems which he could not recite in ayub era but these poems became famous in public when these were presented as songs in movies later. But this poem was recited by him in queeta publically against Zia so it became famous in reference to General Zia's rule. Iqbal bano also played a big role making it symbol against zia's rule when she sung it when it was not allowed to sing wearing sari (that was also not allowed in zia's rule).

Habib jalib was a great popular revolutionary poet of Pakisatn , who migrated from India to Pakisatn , and later he settled in Lahore . this poem was written against gen. ayuob khan i guess around 1967. but yeh he did recite it during zia time n also went to jail for that
@@usmanali7222 yes u r right actually it was written during General ayub's authoritative rule but he could never recite it because he was not allowed to do so. It was not only poem but he wrote many revolutionary poems which he could not recite in ayub era but these poems became famous in public when these were presented as songs in movies later. But this poem was recited by him in queeta publically against Zia so it became famous in reference to General Zia's rule. Iqbal bano also played a big role making it symbol against zia's rule when she sung it when it was not allowed to sing wearing sari (that was also not allowed in zia's rule).

@@usmanali7222 yes, he was a real revolutionary poet and he wrote many other master pieces against authoritative and oppressive rulers. (nawab of kala bagh governor of punjab was also one of them).
