This routine is outstanding. In five minutes the teacher was able to: use Behavioral, Social Constructive, and Developmental theories. In addition, got the student's to set their goals for the day with enthusiasm, confidence, and overall FUN.
Love, love, love this routine. What is he getting paid to do? Let the kids have fun and speak english. Mission accomplished. Brilliant warm-up. He covers more ground in 5 minutes, then many ESL teachers do in a whole period! One of the best examples for ESL teachers on youtube, IMHO. Thanks for filming it Ryan.
I kinda want to cry, I watched this years ago, when I began teaching in Mexico, it inspired me so much and it gave me so many ideas that I developed further for each of my 7 different classes. But specially the "English school, English class, English speaking", all of my kids loved it, ALL of them. And I haven't being able to teach again for quite some time now, and I miss that...so much :'(
20 seconds Alright let's do this !! 35 seconds Who's got this?? 45 seconds Today is February 17th 2011 55 seconds The weather is sunny and cold 1 minute We're shouting, We Are not laughing !! 1:15 Today's lesson is 1:30 Class Rules Rule #1 be nice to everyone Rule #2 always be careful Rule #3 always speak English Rule #4 Don't eat the glue Rule #5 You CAN eat the glue !! 2:00 Lets make it hot It's too hot, lets make it cool It's getting cool, it's getting cooler, it's getting cold It's too cold, lets make it hot! 2:25 Cool, Hot...Cool, Hot...What do you want?? 2:40 It's getting warmer its getting hot in here !! 2:45 Are you hot? Thanks, i wanted to do this myself! He lets these ESL kids talk more in 5 minutes then many teachers let the students talk in a whole class! (including myself at times). Very inspiring.
Any routine even once a week is good. It starts the class with structure, kids love that. It makes them comfortable. Also, it builds confidence. It is something they know they can do. It is a great foundation to have a routine at this level and age class. Definitely adoptable.
I have chills watching this video, Ryan you are an incredible teacher and the organization I work for, the Christopher Robert Project, is going to implement your positivity, energy and style in our informal jungle classrooms asap! Keep up the great work!
amazing teaching skills... nice loud and clear. all the children are engage. love it... I will rock with this style of teaching, starting tomorrow.. lol
Great Work! But with only ten kids it's quite easy! I ve been working 10 years of my life in kindergartens in China and the number of students are around 35 to 50...quite different! Anyway, very good job!
You're one incredible teacher Mr. Ryan! We all have our own teaching styles , and it all depends on our students' learning preferences. Seems your method has worked incredibly well with those kids. But please be careful when lifting kids : ) Nonetheless, thumbs up!
I just want to so say it's amazing what you do with TPR morning routine. I will be teaching Kinder and this has really helped me with my student teaching students. Thank you for sharing. Please post more videos.
I also teach English for little kids, I have a group with kids from 2 to 4 y.o. This is what we do in my school, we only talk in English with them, because they are very small and all the time they get exposure to the referred language, it's better for their learning moment. Nice video, I've got some ideas from you to do with my kids :) Thanks for sharing.
this was one of the most fascinating routines I have every watched. I would love to see anything else you have....do you? I am in my 13th year of teaching. I have taught upper elementary for the last 10 years. 5th grade being the most recent. This year I am in 1st and struggling.... I love new ideas to wake me up and get me motivated since I feel really stuck right now. LOVE LOVE your energy and engagement, something I so so so need to work on...... thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for this. I mixed your idea with some crossfit words. My kids just loved it so much. You are a great teacher. I strongly hope i can see more videos like this. Really. Thank you.
if you get the chance to read this... I just ~found~ you! Loved it! I am pretty sure this is 100% you. I will see if I can find my way for my 5 year old student. Congrats!
Sorry, I did not mean to sound condescending... This kind of routine would be best in kindergarten at any level. For 1st grade and on, I would recommend something more complex of course. But regardless, structure and routine of some sort help students feel comfortable and confident. It is always a good way to start the day.
I actually have a lesson where we read the glue, understand it is "Nontoxic” and we all taste the glue. The underlining of that lesson is to take chances, try everything, and not be afraid to go outside the mold… That is why rule #4 is “Don’t eat the glue” and rule #5 is “It’s ok, you can eat the glue. These rules sound and are funny, but really they are ingraining a “Take risks, take chances" mentality.
Hey Dude, congrats, that´s an amazing way to catch their attention and lear at the same time they have fun, even you i can see that....so i have to say your a good teacher. I hope to be as you are, if you have more videos please upload.!!!!
Dual language is best, but then again, they probably speak their first language outside of english class... Sometimes it's necessary to have a time/space where only the language you are learning can be spoken... otherwise you will not learn it fully and to your best capacity.
Hey, I am just doing my best. My children are not parrots. I am not drilling the answers into them. There are no questions. This is just our morning routine. Along with what I already wrote under my video. My morning routine provides structure and it is something they know. It starts the day on a comfortable note. This is not at all how I teach. I teach my students all the fundamentals for individual growth. That is super important, I completely agree.
How superb to teach children :) You need motivation, energy, and a childlike character to get their satisfaction ;) I am an MA English Student, but one of my dreams is to be a TEYL teacher :) I have a teaching licence, but I decided to carry on the MA degree coz I ddn't find a job in the public sector..anyway when I'll graduate i'll have the opportunity to work as an English Professor at University :) though teaching children would remain a dream for me ! and one day I'll fulfill it.. hopefully :)
Good energy!! I liked it so much! I'll use some of your ideas, thank you for sharing and yes, Why don't you make more videos? Greetings from Colombia ;)
You should see my classroom!! It´s like a little box I can´t even move from one side to another!!! I like your method and actually I don´t know how you do to keep these kids speaking english all time !! mine speak spanish most of times!! if you have a suggestion I will be so thankful!!
Nice! I really liked your technique. I'm working in a Daycare and am also a teacher, this made me re-think my approach; maybe trying something different
That was the sickest thing i've ever seen!!! You got such an awsome connection with your students!! I'm coming to teach english in china soon. Got any icebreakers for my first class you can share with me
Very fun and engaging approach. My only criticism is that the teacher literally lifted up and swung around that girl. Weather or not it seemed like fun, its just a tad inappropriate. Overall the intention and approach was good.
Dual language might be better at more mature ages or higher level classes, sure. My Korean is not bad thou, if I really need to use it, I can. If I need to explain something or a word, I can also look it up, no problem. Honestly thou, after the first month they get pretty good, surprisingly good. They are like sponges at that age, so basically the more exposure the better.
Hi, I am preschool english teacher too from Indonesia, and yes i have a lot of koreans students too who love to talk korean everytime, anytime, (well i'm not korean and couldnt speak korean too). The way you teaching is really powerful and inspiring. If you dont mind, is there anyway for me to discuss more about teaching skill with you? Thank you very much for your attention :)
Not exactly sure what you’re getting at here? 40 minute class? This is a 7 minute video of our morning routine… “I don't think this his method would work with a class of 30-35.” That’s cute too. Is there such a thing of a 30-35 student kindergarten class? If there is, I would happily take on that challenge. Awesome!
Jajajaaj! It is a good routine! I'm looking for greeting since I have to plan a lesson for YL for the university and jajaajaj!!! I found this video. I really enjoyed it and you gave me great ideas! THanks!
DUDE!!!!!!!!!!! That was awesome. I loved it, and I think I will borrow some of your ideas, cheers! Question: did you play football, baseball, or basketball?
This routine is outstanding. In five minutes the teacher was able to: use Behavioral, Social Constructive, and Developmental theories. In addition, got the student's to set their goals for the day with enthusiasm, confidence, and overall FUN.
if all teachers are as energetic as he is then all students are active in class participation. What a great motivator the teacher is. 10 thumbs up!

Mr Gogerty, Do you remember me, I am Anay Singh from your 2022-21 class. You are still my favourite teacher
you are great, I hope you can teach my students how to teach children!
Very fun and engaging approach. My only criticism is that the teacher literally lifted up and swung around that girl. Weather or not it seemed like fun, its just a tad inappropriate. Overall the intention and approach was good.
I feel like doing it by the hands was wrong. Might lead to injury
Not inappropriate at all. It's fun and the child liked it.
How many times a week do your kids take English lesson, everyday? They're all so wonderful and got used to this routine.
Great job:) kids happy great,, i love your video thank you so much inspired me well done
