Arrested Development was an innovative idea that many TV audiences and most TV executives of the early 2000s didn't understand: A sitcom you actually had to pay attention to, not just have it on in the background while you're making dinner.

Serialized sitcoms had been done before. The late 70s had Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman which was a comedic soap opera that aired nightly. And of course the sitcom Soap introduced the world to Billy Crystal.

@@EricWalker-p7e Guess it's a good thing I wrote "didn't understand" not "had never been done before" then, huh.

Eh? The traditional sitcoms were watched by families after dinner. Yes, AR was severely underrated, but the humor was an acquired taste for most viewers.

It's real nice for a reaction channel to remind me how good this show is. It's sublime.
Oh, and you guys should absolutely check out the UK show Peep Show. I think if you like this you'll love Peep Show.

Peep Show is hilariously awkward. It's great! In the same vein, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is worth checking out. David Cross is in that.

I believe Jeffrey Tambor's character George Bluth was originally supposed to be just a reoccurring character, as he's in prison, but Tambor did such great job that they kept writing for him and he became a regular

Oh, bother. I hope this doesn't turn into a choppy 30 Rock situation for another channel where the actual reaction was maybe 5 minutes. I'm assuming stupid copyright issues.

for long time AD fans seeing the first appearance of a running Joke is awesome..... and then not telling them what it is or what little mionor point might turn out to be super imprtant 2 seasons later

I saw this movie on Christmas break my senior year of college because my dad (a school principal) had read the books and was into it, and ended up being so enthralled that I read all four books out at that point instead of working on my thesis. I followed the series all the way through. They’ve lost so much of their sheen for reasons we all know, but this reaction was a really fun reminder of what was magical about them.
Idk if anyone else is going to say this, but especially number three and on - the time limitations of the movies (and some choices about what to focus on) really did lose a few things that I consider to be actually important for understanding what is going on. Reading the books might be worth your time just so you aren’t going “wait why was that mentioned?”

Oh no I hate technology; the video on my tv auto played while I was typing this comment and somehow attached it to this reaction instead of Harry Potter 😂. Wtf, UA-cam.
