  • hi friends,
here is a little update on the lift / ramp situation. when i last spoke about this we had just received the official letter that the local council would not cover the cost of installing a ramp because our entrance was above the threshold of 80cm. they also were not able to help with any second hand lifts from places in the community that no longer required them.
i am a Swedish citizen and have lived at this address on and off since i was about 5-6 years old. despite this, it was deemed that i should not qualify for help with adapting our family home because my injury occurred when i was living overseas.
now that it is summer and people have more time off from work we have been able to purchase and transport a second-hand lift, build some new stairs at a 45 degree angle, so that the lift has the correct incline, and we are getting ready to install it.
please keep your fingers crossed that the lift works and we can install it properly. we could enlist the help of maintenance people from the lift company who need to come to inspect it from time to time anyway.
hope you are all as well as you can be.
    smiles,
    emelie

Being disabled is so expensive it’s ridiculous. Would you mind sharing why building a ramp along the porch wasn’t an option? Hope the lift works out!

i think we would have needed building approval for that. rebuilding the staircase was ok but we couldn't put the lift on the existing one because of the angle. we have made some good progress now though!
