Actually I think it a good idea to come late to my channel, that way you can binge view a mini series. At the moment I am having trouble getting episodes out, especially with the latest mini eries on 'The Elizabeth Affair', but it'll happen.

The only thing I would love to know with more certainty is the degree of forestation existing at each place at the time of events, it would have a huge impact on the way I would look at things.
All these pastures make journeying look far easier than it must have been back then. Cheers

Yes they seemed very fit for the many miles covered. Coastal tracks less forested.

This may be being portrayed as history but is not the truth. The crossing of the Mokau was done twice. There is no mention here of the migrating party going south into friendly country and then coming back to Puohoki for those deemed unfit for travel, such as Te Akau, Te Rauparaha's wife who was pregnant with Tamihana at the time. Te Rauparaha goes back for them sometime later and finds he's a father again and then they attempt to cross the Mokau but the Ngāti Maniapoto are in position to cut them off. And so a fabulous ruse is unveiled ...

Hi Paul, well 200 years have past so what we are left with is the history...where the truth lies is another matter. There is the story mentioned in some accounts of Te Rauparaha going back over the Mokau in a rescue attempt that you refer to. When looking at the story, and the pursuit by the Maniapoto and Te Awaitaia...the story that he had taken time to recover from his boils at his secret cave...all these thing made me reject his return trip over the Mokau.
All accounts of his son's birth have that occuring at the Pa at Pukearuhe. If you have any references to Tāmihana being born elsewhere pls let me know.
      Good to have this kōrero.

Kia ora Kiwi Codger, I must commend you for your videos of Kawhia and the battles that occurred between my iwi Ngati Toa, Rarua and Koata and Ngati Tama, well done. I really enjoy your use of the maps which adds a great visual. May I ask how you were able to use the maps and put on a video please?

Glad you are enjoying the videos. Re making them; I video myself against a green screen, I use Google Earth Pro and build layers on that which can be switched on or off as needed. I use a program called OCam to record the screen whilst doing the Google Earth stuff. I then bring it all into Davinci Resolve Studio to edit and remove the green screen background. I hope this make sense. Cheers

I wouldn't take your account seriously firstly you use colonization to depict Te rauparaha incursion into this rohe when this isn't the case as these were Polynesians interactions and not some other ethnicity. Also your Maori pronunciation of Te reo is terrible especially being a pakeha NZ that should know better
