  • The Top Fuel Dragster of Scott Palmer Racing is analyzed during my 24 hour opportunity to be a Data Engineer for the team. I was put in charge of retrieving data and assisting in analysis. I was given unprecedented access to information about tuning one of the most amazing machines in all of racing. I am able to share with the viewer, my experiences and insights from this level of access.
If you are currently an engine management calibrator or if you tune your own race car, this is a pretty comprehensive look at what is done in Top Fuel.

When the man who helped break all the door car records going says he's blown away and humbled by what Top Fuel involves then you know it's not just the next level, but a whole different world 😯👏🏼 Great video mate 👍🏻

Wow Shane, fantastic job sharing your experience with SPR. To hear someone with your credentials find yourself amazed with top fuel tuning just really drives home how impressive these machines and the teams are. A quick check for 80+ gpm fuel flow they must be using 2" dia fuel lines? Every single flow, pressure, ignition advance number is just difficult to imagine working together.

I’m guessing the pump inlet is 3-3.5 and I think splits to twin 2 ish inlets, one for each pump section

It’s absolutely amazing how much nitro those engines burn 🔥! I’m fairly sure that I’ve heard it said that they are on the point of hydrolock! I also love the throttle whack 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤪🤪🤪🤪! It’s awesome to see everyone’s delayed reaction 😂😂😂😂! You were standing in the wrong spot while the engine was running 😂😂😂😂! There is nothing like nitro in your veins 😜😜😜😜! It can’t be that bad for you, How old is Garlits 😂😂😂😂! I believe he’s like 87 years old! He still goes to work every day 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻! I also figured out the injector situation long time ago! I figured I had something wrong, to need 5 billet atomizers! Per cylinder 😂😂😂😂! Thanks for the video! I wish ol Scotty would jump in his car! Ol Garlits did it when he was pretty old 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻! A lot of top tier teams didn’t even make it to the show down there 🙄🙄🙄🙄!

Believe it or not the fuel volume per cylinder is only around 10-11cc and with their 200 cc chamber volume they are nowhere near hydraulic lock.

The rev limiter basically starts taking timing out around 3.5 seconds or whatever the nhra rule is these days... If it actually limited engine speed then a whole lot of problems would be going to rod heaven! Good stuff Shane!

You know Shane, when you've worked out how to get 4 cylinders down the strip in the 5's, they're gunna need you for another special 8 cylinder target. Do the math.

Great video as always thanks for letting us in on your world Shane. I'm always astounded by the fuel requirements of these things. I know this is a really old video but it gives a good visual explanation of how much just one cylinder uses. ua-cam.com/video/xGTbQuhhluY/v-deo.html
