I was standing beside the Number 1 in the Winners enclosure that day talking to Mr. B.Scott and telling him about the late Joseph Crowley who was a major influence on Bregawn when he had him. I still have the photos I took that day.
The chasers (and hurdlers) were a really a tough bunch back then, you use to see them season after season, so many favourites. Bregawn totally lost interest in chasing after this victory, and was sold in Ireland, where he got into the habit of refusing, the equine equivalent of "No Mas".
He was like that before he ever raced. When he was taken out of the box in the morning for exercise he would have a good look around and if things were not to his liking he would stand still and refuse to go anywhere except back into his box. I thought he was more intelligent than a lot of humans
Great racing from the eighties

Would you mind making them available? I'm sure it'd mean a lot to my dad, we actually have quite few photos of that day.
@@jameskennelly136 I will try and dig them out James

Such a feat would pretty unlikely to be repeated, let alone surpassed.
Nicholls was closest, he had a 1-2-3

We all have a claim to fame but yours is special. Bregawn was one of the best in the National Hunt hay day. 👍👍
