Got to admire Pat Eddery in the saddle, Selkirk was so unlucky not to win.

Good old Pat Eddery, simply a superb ride.

Its as if Pat Eddery knew exactly how many times to whip Rock Hopper to get him up right on the line, a great ride.

This meeting should have been merged into Champions Day with the QEII, Fillies Mile and Royal Lodge round a bend rather than the latter 2 down the Newmarket straight and the former on the Ascot straight mile I would rather only the handicaps run down the straight mile of the current Champions Day only the Chanpion Stakes is right as the 1 mile 2 furlongs should go round a bend along with the stayers, fillies and mares middle distance race, Sun Chariot should be on Champions Day rather than the fillies and mares having tor run in the QEII again on the same round mile with a staying handicap over the Gold Cup course

Was this the last running of the Agfa Diamond Chase before it became a generic handicap chase? Seemed a pity because this was a successor race to the Gainsborough CHase, which produced some great Sandown history.
