From the dog in the bar all the way to serving yourself bc the bartender is outside smoking. The best part is, everyone is so cool about it so we can keep doing that. Everyone is honest, pays what they owe, and I think it’s great.

I used to own a bar in a small town in the northern parts of Sweden. I could literally leave the bar for an hour, and when I came back the beer was gone and my cash register was full of cash. Sometimes I came back and by regulars was busy sweeping the floor. No dog though, but there was a big black stray cat that decided to move in. He had his own spot on a table in a corner. I’m from Denmark and we have a small town local bar like that. Everyone knows everybody. And if we haven’t seen one of the locals for a few days we call if he/she is alright.
Every person comes in at different times of the day.
We help the bar owner whenever she needs help. Refilling the cooler etc or if it is something heavy, she always repays with a round even though she doesn’t have to, but it is her way to say thank you for the help. If she needs to leave for 5 min she always tells us to take care of the bar until she gets back, which we then do. We know how to operate the cashier.

If you go ten miles down the road you’ll run into the Swedes and the next one just across the border in WI has the Germans. It’s the Scandinavian - European immigrants that populate these more remote places to this day that make these bars like this. This video is so accurate, they had a Bernese mountain dog in the bar named Johnny, the bartender Steve used to go outside and smoke for a while and we just served ourselves, and it was my unofficial job to refill the soap dispenser
And yes, I still have Steve in my contacts and have since I decided not to re-enlist in 2017. He was from a small town outside Milwaukee, and he was a nice guy. he always, without fail, said "Hey, tell your folks I says hi, woncha'?" Steve, if you're reading this, I told my folks.

I worked as a bartender in a small town bar for a few years...this felt more like a documentary than a sketch. Unironically I have seen all that and more cooky quirky small town stuff. Like we had a post office in the bar area, so people would check their mail and hang out for a while. We had cups instead of chips, but you'd have someone come in with a stash of them they saved up and drinks would go to every which part of the bar. We had smoking in our bar, so the smoke break thing didn't happen...much.

Dont forget Duck Pin Bowling. Then you leave the pin setters a big tip cause you got drunk and were basically throwing clay balls at them the last 2 hours.

Can confirm, lived in the Midwest for 5 years. Although when someone asks if you have a nipple on your beer, you must drink your beer until you have less than the other guy. Then call him out for slacking. Also you can get blackout of drunk and forget to pay the tab, but bartenders don't sweat because they'll know you'll be back soon. 😉

Can confirm this is the same in my local small town pub in the Netherlands.

I used to go camping in the Upper Peninsula a lot and we’d go to a small town bar to enjoy a cheeseburger and beers after days of beans and dehydrated meals. This is so accurate! I miss the Midwest sometimes!
