Thank you, Dr. Bricker! I always enjoy your intelligent encapsulations of complex healthcare problems in just a few minutes, breaking them down to their essentials. I would have sworn that my book couldn't be summarized in 8 minutes, but you've proved me wrong -- fantastic job!
Davita nephrologists are also impeding patients from getting on kidney transplant waitlist so that they remain on dialysis as long as possible. Cleveland clinic did a study
Been on dialysis over 10 years. Been kicked out of centers and refused treatment for raising concerns. Went to three evaluations for transplant. All three surgeons say I'm a perfect candidate. 'Social workers' want to know how I will pay for everything after three years. So no transplant. I'm stuck doing this and dealing with hostile medical profession until I'm dead. Do not qualify for Medicaid!
I work in the dialysis industry. I would like to know more about what someone with experience in the healthcare industry thinks about dialysis. It was nice to see you cover the topic.
I’m enjoying your video. I just freaked and quit my job in dialysis and on FMLA. I felt like we were cramming in so many patients and working late into the night. It wasn’t that way when I started a few years ago. It got to be way too much. Machines are breaking down too, blood lines defective and restringing blood tubing. Lots of mistakes. I couldn’t do it anymore. I worked at a different company too, not any of the big 2. Not sure where I will move on to after this. I’m so burnt out it was scary.
@@ahealthcarez thank you. I’m just healing at home. But it was an ugly world. I’m reconsidering my entire career atm which is scary. I loved nursing. I’m so mad. And hurt. I loved my patients.
I spent 23 years (combined) as a dialysis RN in both the DaVita and Fresenius organizations. I ultimately retired from nursing because patients were being pushed into procedures they didn’t want, need, or both. The exploitation of patients by way of unnecessary treatments/procedures was rampant, and incredibly disheartening. One topic covered in this video, however, I would disagree with to some degree. It was stated that patients who raised concerns would be “provoked” in order to remove them from clinics for behavioral issues. I was associated with many clinics during my career, and I’ve never seen or heard of any such behavior taking place. If this occurred, it would have certainly been very isolated incidents as it was absolutely not a widespread occurrence.
Thanks for this excellent overarching example, based on Tom Mueller's book "How to Make a Killing". It is reflective of Warren Buffet's description of the U.S. Healthcare System as a Tapeworm on our economy and a threat to our national competitiveness. From what I have observed this is enabled by the symbiotic relationships between all the elements of the Medical Industrial Complex generating a Fly Wheel of Greed. Unsustainable and ripe for disintermediation and disruption. As you commented, we need more squeaky wheels and to raise public awareness of how we are being exploited, enabled by regulatory capture and borderline or blatant violations of antitrust laws and demand reforms be made to stop feeding the beast, before it is too late.
The trend for Fresenius seems like they may have been too aggressive in their expansion. They would open units in proximity to one another and some of the units are not filled. They have closed some units that are not filled and are not aggressively buying /opening new units right now it seems.
Now that you have improved audio quality with a lav mic and better vocal control, congruent body language / hand gestures will make you even more convincing. Keep up the good work!
There's nothing wrong with making a profit but I just can't understand how these senior managers are so unnecessarily nasty, cruel and greedy. Don't they have blood in their veins? Don't they have family members that they worry this might happen to?
Could people of the public send in a comment in the final rule (I guess it would be outpatient) complaining about these things because it should affect reimbursement because of low quality.

Well… I didn’t do it justice, but I tried. Thank you for writing it.

This is so dark.

Regulatory capture keeps a lot of people warm at night. 1,800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets under Toile de Jouy duvet covers.

This is so disturbing on so many levels.

Ironically, Buffet is the largest shareholder of DaVita.
@@ahealthcarez yes it is!
I wonder why Fresenius stock has been such a dog, down 50% over the past 5 years, especially if they're a duopoly and 'making a killing'.
Looks like it’s losing to DaVita… Fresenius Earnings Per Share down over the years… DaVita EPS is up.

Doc , Is cancer and Chemotherapy / Radiation covered by Medicare for all treatment ?
If you are over 65, generally Yes.

I noticed this too, makes a big difference.
There’s a high pitch noise in the background of this video. Same with a few other recent ones
Thank you for your feedback.
Do you have a podcast? If not please make one!
I have a podcast playlist on my UA-cam channel, but that is all. Thank you for watching.

I don’t know. Thank you for watching and for your comment.
Does this seem like an example of crisis theory playing itself out to anyone else?
