A lesson in economics… and I think is great news for the UK going forward! We have been outsourcing jobs for decades and our balance of payments way off balance. The good news is the prices will kick start our own farming industry and particularly the Fishing industry which is a shadow of pre 1970’s size.. It’s good news for sure!
They clearly have been making vast profits for years by sourcing from the cheapest suppliers worldwide while ignoring UK options. Now its payback time. If some of the worst go the wall and the others change their buying habits then maybe not a bad thing. Can't really see the day there will be a shortage of shops, Also extreme dishonesty in the business with virtually every shop claiming they get their fish fresh from Billingsgate which is patently untrue.
People will not walk to the chippie they want the chippie to come to them on the sofa that's just a fact of life now a days we are slowly consigning ourselves to be couch potatoes with T.V dinners or just eat takeaway sad world we live in if our NHS thinks its in crisis it isn't seen nothing yet?
I just purchased a regular bag of chips the other day and it was three quid. A family chippy night can cost anything up to £30 nowadays and what with energy, fuel and food prices soaring, people are going to think twice. I remember not so long ago paying £1.50 for a bag of chips, which is a reasonable price for a consumer...
Okay, another once upon a time stories, but in the 70s and 80s fish and chips was cheap and something one often had after a night in the pub. Now it is very expensive, and with a family a definite treat.
I consider this self sacrifice, WTF SERIOUSLY WTF are they doing relying solely upon Ukraine for Sunflower oil, and Russia for White Fish and Haddock. The industry set themselves up for failure, ALWAYS Sourse your products from various regions, or you've doomed yourselves IMO.
Cod is sourced from Iceland and China NOT Russia. The vast majority of fish and chip shops use PALM OIL to fry the fish and chips NOT sunflower oil from Ukraine. Palm oil is imported from Malaysia and Indonesia NOT Russia. Potatoes for chips are grown in the UK NOT Russia. Don't believe the western media as they are anti Russian.
Thanks the Greens for this.
How?
Greens and the SNP making a rekt of scotlands money. good luck with independance

Had their day and a victim of the present times. Far too expensive to feed a family with fish suppers now, a real shame.
Have you considered taking up fishing as a hobby?
@@stevenhull5025 used to, but felt bad hitting them over the head to kill them. Went back to the chip shop 😂👍

Why is it we have to depend on other countries? Don’t we produce anything in our own country. Don’t we fish for cod anymore? Utter bloody madness.
You do produce something in the UK. Shi* weather.
@@stevenhull5025 Ha Ha Ha your right there.
Put the fish and chips down to £2 then charge 50 quid for the salt and vinegar. Job done!!!
And no extra charge for the plastic fish

I remember a cone of chips was 30p in the late 80s!
No more "cheap as chips"

@@acheung666 can't cover costs for business tough times
Just paying bills can't see any future also too many fast food shops in Sheffield
@@acheung666 food banks are the future
Fish and chips are boring/bland. Let them be replaced by chinese take-away which is tasty food.
Perhaps follow the lead of the chinese and use gutter oil.
Did you know the vast majority of cod is imported from China. Thank goodness it is delivered frozen and not fried.
Blame Brexit ? Oh do spare us your left wing BS.
