- 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner Big 3/ Big 4 Upgrade Changes. Yes, this project has changed already. We have all been there when the project scope changed while completing it or some factors changed after the fact and that's what happened in this case.
Nevertheless, I love the what I changed, looks great and safe as it should be. We look forward to your thoughts and input.

Damn you did a great job on mounting that!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Great job. I'm sure this required plenty of research before having to make the final decision. Good luck with it. See you next time.
Thank you for watching. Definitely a lot of research and sometimes second guessing it but it all turned out great in the end.
Agree with replacing wiring rather than running a parallel, looks way cleaner and less clutter. I've cut out all kinds of junk people thought would work. I'll admit to having to McGyver some crap myself but only as a temp or field expedient fix.
lol. McGyver was the man. Thanks for watching and the feedback. I do appreciate. This project also exposed another issue on a different part that has to be replaced. Time to order more parts. Oh darn. LOL
@@SpiritedWrenchers getting ready to order some myself.😎 Maybe some new rear tires for the Vette.
@@YellowJacketGarage Woo Hoo!!!
I commented on fusing the alternator cable in episode 2. I'm glad you caught this because it's very important to have that fuse. I used a 120 amp fuse (based on a sizing calculator) on my 02 Mustang since the alternator is rated for 108 amps. I'm not sure if the fuse is intended to protect the alternator or the battery though but since the fusible links on the OEM cable are at the main fuse box I assumed that's the best place to put the weatherproof ANL fuse block. Like you, I think the stock alternator is adequate for my needs since it should produce approximately 1.5 killowatts of power @13.8 VDC (13.8x108). I might have to go larger on the alternator if the power budget demands it.
This is a highly debatable piece. There are many that don't fuse between alternator and positive when upgrading. Those that sell upgraded alternators have been known to say it's not necessary if you run the wires correctly. I chose to add it as an additional safety measure for my battery. If I kept it the prior way, I wouldn't have needed to because of the fusible link. Those are to protect the vehicle electronics in case of voltage runaway from the alternator. Rarely happens but still a chance. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@SpiritedWrenchers I'm one of those. Audio lover here as well. Along with loving to get out and explore with my music. Im of the opinion, if done correctly, that fuse/link on that run isn't needed at all. Amperage blows fuses, not voltage. So, in the VERY unlikely event, your 13vdc alternator suddenly "runs away" voltage wise, it most likely wont even pop a 200 or whatever amp fuse. It may cause more issues than the warm and fuzzys are worth. But hey, to each their own. Happy adventures out there. Nothing better than your fav tunes cranked up, and out away from everyone, just doing your thing/exploring. Cheers.
@@96kylar Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Greatly appreciated. Totally get your point with it. Since I was eliminating some of the OEM routing, I wanted to be extra cautious with it. I have learned far too many times that it's best to have it and not need it than, well, you know. :-) Safe travels on the trails to you as well. Cheers!
@@SpiritedWrenchers i feel ya. Doesn't the runner already have a 140amp fuse for the alt.??? Should be there in the under hood fuse box. Meh,... like i said, to each their own. Cheers.
What’s in your low beams??
I’m not sure that the fuse is necessary, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to add it.
Hi Jay. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. We greatly appreciate it. Yes, I agree. It may not be truly necessary but it wouldn't hurt with what I'm doing and what is next for it all. I sleep better knowing I've checked all the boxes to protect my investment. Stay safe!!
@@SpiritedWrenchers That’s what it is all about. Personal comfort level. Thanks for the video!
Love the shirt lol
Thank you!!!
I'm here guys
Thank you for watching!!!!
Hi how many amp of the anl fuse ?? 200 or 300 amp ... Thk you
This particular one is 250. Its overkill but it's what I had from an old audio system so I just used what I had. 200 should be plenty based on what I've read. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You don't put back the 0 gauge to the fuse box you just leave without cable ?
Hi Simon. Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate it. I'm not sure I understand your question though.
@@SpiritedWrenchers you say you put A 0 gauge from the alt to the fuse box on the first video , and now to atl to thw batery with a fuse But you dont show how tou left ur fuse box cable?
@@simonnunez9871 he said he put a 4awg there.
What headlights are those
Hi Tyler. Thanks for watching this episode. The housing is stock however they are custom made internals.
Change is good lol
Indeed it is "most of the time". LOL
Who modded your headlights and what did they do? Looks neat!
Hi Teachthestory, thanks for watching and sharing. We appreciate it. These were modded by a guy in Arkansas, where I bought the 4Runner from. The internal pieces are all custom and almost a honeycomb look them. They are definitely unique.
Run it till it don't lol
LOL. Amen!
