- How will understanding the 'rules' of photography help improve your videos? Does photography even have a place in video? What is the "rule of thirds" and when is the "golden hour"? Can filming at midday ever work? Are you comfortable filming people in the street? In your experience, how do local people respond to being photographed?
It's all about street photography, street portraiture and travel photography in this week's podcast.

I am always amazed and impressed by your photos. You always seem to capture the moment at exactly the right time.
Thanks, Edgar. I'm glad they bring you some joy 😊
Part of being permitted to photo others is the way you approach others. Jamie, you are a people person with your friendly, smiling face. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I guess that helps. I do know of lurking photographers looking sheepish who can put people off!
Wow, another incredible video showcasing your talent for capturing beautiful moments! I'm always in awe of how you manage to freeze time with your still images, and this podcast episode was no exception. From street and travel photography to your underwater shots, you really know how to tell a story through your lens. It's no surprise that your work has been published, congratulations! Keep up the amazing work, and I can't wait to see more of your photography adventures on the boat. Best regards!
We intend to continue using Jamie's stills in our videos, it's something we feel strongly about. Thanks for your lovely words. Liz 🙏😘
As an avid photographer every word hit home. And what an awesome discovery with that shell... Street, Travel and all the self acclaimed. Look forward to your album Jamie! 📸📷🎥
Hehe, cheers, Jay 📸
Thank you for this discussion. I love how you two make it a priority to interact with local people. I especially appreciate that you convey those interactions in your videos and stills. Too few other cruising bloggers do this.
For us, interacting with local people is one of the main reasons for travelling and sailing somewhere. I just can't get over the way so many channels show no interaction with local people at all. Far too often, the videos are vanity instead of inquisitiveness. ☹️🥺
Thanks for taking the time to post your comment here. Liz 😘
Great pictures, Jaime! Go for your passion.
I also enjoy seeing your underwater photography as well.
Thank you, Kurt!
You Do take some very good photos especially the underwater ones. I appreciate that you share your photos throughout the video. Thanks.
Cheers, Robert, appreciate the feedback 👍
You both seem to be very good at engaging people. I love the still shots! Quite enjoyed the Angelsey Abby vid!
It's just natural for us and I suspect most people in our position would do the same. Thanks for the feedback 😃👍
When you think about the images/videos that are really memorable they are all still images. The images from Vietnam or any other dramatic event its the still images I remember.
A video is transient you watch it and it's gone, a quality photograph is like a painting you can put it on the wall and enjoy it for years. Keep up with the still images they are great.
Absolutely hit the nail on the head. The photos I take of people become my friends, familiar faces that stay with me forever.
Oh it would be travel for those of us that have never been to the U.K. Very nice video !
Well, the weather's been lovely for this time of year, so do pop over!
I'd suggested some time back that you join either Magnum or Black Star not knowing the former was founded by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Seeing your pictures I think more Alfred Eisenstaedt then H.C-B. (so I was thinking for the first third of this video until you mentioned Cartier-Bresson). Yes, yes, yes! More photoshoots! Best regards.
I don't think you can join Magnum, it's invite only and I will never be that good, Daniel! I'll keep on trucking though. The day after we recorded this I received my copy of the Royal Photographic Society's latest issue of their travel magazine, which has a ten page spread of my photos, so that's something!
@@followtheboat Congratulations!
Love your photography, I’m wanting to do more stills photography this year after a hiatus. Would be cool to smuggle a film camera on to the boat with out my wife realizing. Great job on being published nothing quite like that feeling of opening a book or magazine and seeing your work there in print.
Thank you. Yes, it would be fun to explore more film photography. I have many rolls on board but nowhere to develop them.
Very Interesting 🎉
Hello from lombok
I love this channel
Hello hello! Welcome aboard 😃
@@followtheboat it's given me an inspiration
I feel the same way, as a photographer trying to get into video I find the biggest hurtle is the time. I'm so busy working on stills for my clients, that the thought of spending time with doing video makes my head spin. I have a hard enough time finding personal time to shoot and when I do it takes forever to get to editing them.
I find editing a set of photographs can take at long as editing a whole video episode, so when we put together a video with stills, the editing time doubles!
@@followtheboat I like that format and have struggled with doing that. I need to spend time on it in the upcoming off season. During peak season I'm editing over 20k images from all of my clients... doesn't leave a ton of time to think or play creatively.
Seems UA-cam is playing games with notifications settings again.... Still subscribed but notifications were off
Arrrgh, it's SO frustrating 😡 UA-cam really needs to sort this out.
Born and raised here; I've not met an Indonesian who can ignore a camera pointing at them, always very self-conscious in front of a camera. Turning away or gesturing or saying "no photo" is almost always because they are too shy, if you talk to them i'd bet 99 times out of 100 is that they are not confident to be photographed.
Interesting. Of course you are referring only to the people who are shy about their photo being taken. I would say most don't mind or want their photo taken, at least that's my take as a tourist 😃
For children only 😂 never grow up lol. Personally I would love to see more of the area, maybe a video tour of your favourite spots before you head back to the boat?
You two are grown up and know that kontact with the local pepole is essential......not your self! 📷📸📹🦉🦤🕊🇸🇪❤
Yeah, it's so important to us, Barbro.
