      Late commenting here, but when I was in high school, Saving Private Ryan came out. I saw it with friends opening night, at the time I guess I never truly grasped the gut wrenching parts of that movie. As I got older one of the heaviest emotional scenes in that movie is when the medic Wade dies. When he starts calling out for his mother after telling that story in the church, gets me every time.
      Again at time, I guess I didn’t get it, but a few days later one of my friends tells me his parents went and saw it and that his mom cried. This woman was an RN and tough as nails,she’d seen lots traumatic injuries and death. She never shed a tear as far as I know, but that particular scene got to her. My friend laughed as he told the story because he found it funny that throughout all the blood and gore, none of that fazed her, but when Wade cried for his mom as he lay dying made her sob like a baby.

      The line works for the more intense southern accent Troy Baker does in the game, but for the show it's too much of an action-movie line that would sound goofy compared to the rest of the dialogue, along with Joel's faded accent due to not living in Texas for 20 years.

    • @blublubblub
      @blublubblub Рік тому +21

      @@beccazach agreed, and it also sorta annoys me the videogame fans' fixation with very specific lines of dialogue that are not even all that special, even after the TV show included stuff that the fans had no right to expect wouldn't be cut or extremely altered. It's not even a catchphrase, just a very specific thing Joel says in the game.
      No judgement Alex, I'm annoying like that for other stuff, I never played the games, but you're like the 10th person I've seen bring this up and that "iconic" phrase or whatever, and it's starting to feel like TLOU fans are kinda pampered, this is a show of the highest quality, I'm talking Emmy contender, the nitpicking is starting to feel like a sense of entitlement, specially regarding the nitpicking with other more "controvesial" aspects of the show. TLOU fans are seemingly unaware of how lucky they are. Ask Halo fans, or Witcher fans. Or LotR fans. Or Wheel of Time fans. Halo fans didn't even ask for that much, they certainly didn't expect a Prestige TV show, just doing the source material justice, although they hoped, of course, you never know.

    Kathleen is the perfect example of someone who should not have power. Despite the fact she got the rebellion to where it was she obviously only wanted it for her revenge and didn't actually care about those she was leading. In like the span of give or take 2 weeks she lead them to both beating fedra and getting everyone killed. I liked this story arc and it was so sad that at multiple points the burden of blame switches between people to why KC is dead

The show and the game really are about the bleakness of the world and the human struggle to survive. But some do survive and endure, like the episode title. And they really do an excellent job presenting that. but it is rough to watch. 😢

    The first time playing through this game, the Sam and Henry demise scene rocked me hard. But seeing it in the show, the way they played it out in this media, it brought something more real to it. Nat, your reaction to it, I'm right there with you , girl. It brought me to tears all over again. How do you go on when you've pretty much sacrificed your life for your family and then have to put them down for the safety of others? That scene will always bring a tear to my eye. Your reaction, though, makes me hurt even more.

    Even though more tears have been shed from people like you every episode, you cannot deny how goddamn incredible this show is.
    The acting, the cinematography, the production, the clothing, the music and the themes surrounding this series is im-goddamn-peccable.
    I think you should still give the original game a try. While the TV show is the same as the game, the show thematically changes things from the game itself.
    Also, after you wrap this one up, I think you should watch the show "Yellowjackets". The actress who played Kathleen in Episodes 4 & 5 of The Last of Us is in the show along with OG Wednesday Addams Christina Ricci.
    I've heard nothing but great things. I heard it's more messed up than Last of Us, but it is just as good. Give it a shot. Apparently, Season 2 of Yellowjackets is coming this year. Also, Last of Us has been renewed for Season 2 as well.

I know a trucker who recognized the FedEx hub from there. But mostly Alberta. Certainly the gas station in the background at the end of 5. But then again, the (unseen in this video) map Henry drew works for KC with the bridge to the north (although 29 would be better, if still available).

    In the game Henry doesn't say "What did I do?" He says "This is your fault" meaning meeting up with Joel and Ellie and going with them but it's really Henry grasping for meaning and trying to cope with what he had to do. Since you're controlling the character it hits really hard but I think in the context of the show the change makes sense and is devastating.

    I’ll be honest, it’s wild to me how people are so sympathetic with Joel and Henry because they do things for love, but at the same time judging other people (Kathleen, Tommy) for doing similar or lesser things for the same reason. The show not only does a great job exploring the different shades of love, the great and terrible things it can cause, but it also exposes us viewers how biased we are based on limited information. I’m so excited for the last two episodes!

    • @Gealaiche
      @Gealaiche Рік тому +3

      Yeah because Kathleen isn't acting to protect or save anyone. Her motivations are entirely selfish to the point she ignores an imminent threat to the entire community to pursue a course of revenge that she admits her brother would be horrified by and in the end it kills everyone.

    • @Martinbumms
      @Martinbumms Рік тому +1

      @@Gealaiche no she doesn't protect, she lost her love and positivity when her brother died because Henry snitched on him. Revenge for a lost family member, friend or whatever is just a violent way of grieving about a lost love.
      I don't defend Kathleen, Henry or Tommy and also not Joel.
      But of course I understand that people don't like Kathleen as a person, I don't like her either, Melanie Lynsky did abgreatbjob portraying her in that way. I just hope you'll remember that blind revenge is a terrible way dealing with grieve

    • @JITCompilation
      @JITCompilation Рік тому +2

      To be fair, the way they wrote Kathleen’s dialogue wasn’t easy to sympathize with lol. I really wish they would’ve had her say something like “you took a great man away from the world- away from ME. You need to know how that feels” to give her motivation for why she would want to kill Sam. But having her say “KIDS DIE HENRY” doesn’t exactly endear her to the audience; that’s generic evil villain dialogue. Obviously it’s still a fantastic show but you can’t really blame people for not sympathizing with Kathleen.

    • @Martinbumms
      @Martinbumms Рік тому

      @@JITCompilation I don't judge people for not sympathizing, the things Kathleen did were wrong. She technically not wrong with saying "Kids die all the time", they live in an apocalypse, children aren't too sacred to die or anything like that. But it isn't the nicest thing to say, I totally get that.
      What I say is, Henry selling out Kathleen's brother, who was described as a Jesus-like person by pretty much everyone, was the incident starting the downfall and yet his love for his brother makes it okay?
      Henry sacrificing Michael, a more peaceful and loving leader, is fucked up, understandable, yet fucked up.

    • @Martinbumms
      @Martinbumms Рік тому

      @@JITCompilation what I thought was even more interesting was Nathalie judging Tommy right away but didn't even think about Joel coming in hot and demands him to leave Jackson in a second, just because he's afraid.
      Sympathizing with Joel is what the show wants us to do, but I think it's interesting how much a lot of people lose their empathy immediately when it comes to someone else, even if those other people aren't wrong or even right.

    It's not necessarily just "don't tell them where you are". Radio signals are easy to triangulate...and I am sure lots of people in Jackson have friends and family out there. And Maria sees Joel as the guy who made her husband a murderer. Joel killed innocent people not just to steal their stuff,m buit to avoid ever having consequences, and Tommy (who is established by Joel as being someone who just "joins up") followed Joel into that life. Joel seems to dismiss that side of life as doing what he had to do, but Tommy "still ha[s] nightmares" about it, suggesting greater remorse than Joel. From Maria's perspective, a former prosecutor, that is not a guy you stay in touch with, you don't even want him to come find his brother because he might find Jackson and murder people to take their stuff.
    She's wrong about Joel, but you tell one wrong person, and Jackson is suddenly at risk. With Joel's resume, he _looks_ the wring type of person and it doesn't seem like Tommy has any stories since the fall that paint Joel in a good light.
