The main reason Arajin got up was not because Mahoro was in danger, but because Mahoro did what Arajin could not. Mahoro did what Arajin had always wished to do. Mahoro's words to Shindo that Arajin heard were basically like, "Everything is fine. There's nothing to be afraid of."
Thus, it healed the trauma. Of course not completely, but it's a good first step.

It's not the action that mattered when looking at his character, but it was because it was HER doing that. What makes her special to Arajin is the fact that he's simping for her, and that's why HER doing that was what made him move.
I am actually enjoying Arajin's character. Like, he's nothing like me and he acts in ways I never would, but he's interesting to look at as an incredibly insecure and cowardly teenager. He refuses to stand for anything because the one time he ever did, the friend who he roped into it got beat up and he has felt shame about that ever since. He ignores Matakara because he's too weak of a person to confront that sense of shame (he'd rather run away). Arajin is stuck seeing Matakara as someone he can never protect, but Mahoro showed him that you didn't even need to fight to be stronger than a bully. It opened his eyes to the fact that he wasn't weak as a child, he was just afraid. Arajin in that moment saw her as a person who had been in his situation, not as his love interest.

This literally the best and more realistic comment than people trying to compare him to every other BIg young MCs in animes. It feels more realistic that he wants to have a normal life and get himself a girlfriend (even tho I agree his choice in mahoro is crazy) then be part of these big fighting gangs/ groups when it clearly isn’t his deal. I do hope that after this he plans to open up to matakara more since we can tell he doesn’t genuinely hate him or dislike him, he just does it cause he still blames himself for leaving him back then

I'm really sorry but nothing that Arajin did this episode makes up for the amount of shit he did (or rather, didn't do). He is still a horrible character, with horrible motivations. Before, I thought that he used to have some guts, but the flashback shows that he was already afraid before seeing his friend get beat up.
I mean, how is this dude some kind of chosen one? He only stands up for the chick, and it is a chick that up until now only treated him poorly, which makes him not only a coward, but dumb as fuck and a damn simp as well. Jesus. I'm only watching this because they are reacting to it, otherwise, I would've dropped the show a few weeks ago already.

This ep really summed up Arajin personality perfectly. Boy will fight for virginity even his friends on fire.
But he just probably think doesn't deserve to act friendly with Matakara due to his past, but with Mahoro is different story. Yet in the end, he still show compassion towards Matakara which is some positive notes
The problem is that normal people don't go out of their ways to be horrible to the one they feel guilty about. Very immature and shows that he's not taking accountability. He's making Matakara out to be the problem.

Arajin belongs to the streets. It's crazy how much the side characters have to carry the show because Arajin is such a dogwater protagonist.
The job of the MC is to push the story forward but he hasn't literally done a single thing in the show so far. Every one of his actions is led by other side characters. The places he go, the factions he joins, the people he punches, etc etc. All led by someone else.
It’s led by his desire to get some ass tbf.
This also happened to Eren Jaeger for basically all(?) of Attack on Titan. The MC being affected by the plot isn't bad in and of itself; it's a valid literary choice authors make, but when he's also a terrible friend and super self centered, it does make the character an emotional burden for sure.
Because he’s a reactionary character opposed to and action character, that doesn’t make him bad at all, there are countless good characters just like, that’s not why he’s dogwater, it’s literally because of who all his actions are for, this is like denji and makimas type of relationship but instead of understanding why he does it you just have to hate him for it, denji did it because he wanted to live a normal life and feel genuine love and makima used that against him, arajin is a perfectly functioning person in society who can literally go after any girl yet decides to keep doing things for the one girl who’s openly admitting to using him🤦🏾♂️

So let me be clear about the post discussion, we don't want to always have perfect and good MC's. We have morally grey ones such as Eren, Light, Ayanokoji, Rudeus, etc. who are popular and loved by many fans so I don't think Arajin is anything worth bringing up. His goal is very boring and cliche while we have a similar MC like Denji who wants the same thing but his story is so much better. Every other character is more interesting than Arajin so the fans are valid for not liking him.
This. Only reason I watch the show still is because they're reacting to it, otherwise, such boring characterization and overall writing so far. Almost nothing to write home about comedy-wise either.
