Masking the Pain: Special Report

Masking the Pain is a yearlong investigation into widespread misuse of narcotics, numbing agents, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory injections, like Toradol, inside college sports locker rooms. FOX31 Denver fought dozens of universities for medication purchasing records, sports drug policies, and use of pain-killing injections for “game-day” athletes. We proved numerous athletic programs skirt best medical practices by dosing up injured players just prior to (and during games) to keep the young athletes on the field.
The NCAA’s top doctor responded to our ongoing investigative work with an interview in which he announced a crackdown on the use of pain killers.
