Hey Folks! I wanted to make this video as a follow up to my recent mixing pricing video to help people wrap their heads around why it is SO beneficial to raise your rates - and the list of perks is longgggg!
Comment your experiences below and let’s get a conversation going! ❤

Excellent points, dude! I’m as guilty as anyone of being afraid to raise my rates, but every time I do it’s been a pleasant experience. I completely concur with everything you said about getting better clients as your rates go up. Everything gets more pleasurable when you stop trying to compete with people on Fiverr (Freelancer version of Craigslist).
This doesn’t mean you have to find semi-professional bands. There are plenty of people who are serious about art and need help, but most producers ignore them because they’re too busy chasing big bands that are going to boost their reputation.

Exactly! Don’t compete for the race to them bottom type of clients and rates!

Interesting that I stumbled on to this video. I cant say to much but I work freelance. It's not a company I work for, its an individual entrepreneur who makes his money from various music projects. The role is basically a bit of everything from sound design, song creation, mixing and engineering. Its highly intensive creative work. I get paid just a little bit above minimum wage and its nowhere like enough for the effort I put in so every month I struggle to pay bills etc which adds to the stress.
I'm creatively drained, stressed, and the creative battery is running on fumes and I get no joy from the music I create whatsoever and dread starting every day. But I need to work, don't have any other options or skills aside from music. My health has definitely suffered. Your video has given me some food for thought.

One of the biggest advantages of working freelance, in my opinion, is that we get to decide our own wage. It’s not that simple of course, but itd a good way to try and look at it. If you’re not getting what you require, I’d encourage you to try and charge enough so that you do. Your client needs you as much as you need them, probably more so!
